The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep
The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep | H. G. Parry
13 posts | 6 read | 14 to read
The ultimate book-lover's fantasy, featuring a young scholar with the power to bring literary characters into the world, for fans of The Magicians, Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, and The Invisible Library. For his entire life, Charley Sutherland has concealed a magical ability he can't quite control: he can bring characters from books into the real world. His older brother, Rob -- a young lawyer with a normal house, a normal fiancee, and an utterly normal life -- hopes that this strange family secret will disappear with disuse, and he will be discharged from his life's duty of protecting Charley and the real world from each other. But then, literary characters start causing trouble in their city, making threats about destroying the world... and for once, it isn't Charley's doing. There's someone else who shares his powers. It's up to Charley and a reluctant Rob to stop them, before these characters tear apart the fabric of reality.

Rob‘s younger brother is able to read things out of books and into the real world. It is startling enough when it is a paperweight but when the Cat in the Hat is suddenly in your house it is even more alarming. When the two discover that there are characters in the world that Charles did not read out, they know something is amiss. This book was an absolute delight full of adventure, the love of literature, and a world with more than one Darcy.

An absolute delight from start to finish! A fun, satisfying read 🥰

If you like any of these things, you‘ll probably like this book: Charles Dickens, Sherlock Holmes, books about books, books where the characters in books are real, well crafted fiction, original plot, great pacing, interesting characters, plots with lots of twists and turns, family tension, humor, literary criticism critique, adventure, allusions, Dorian Gray, and more!

Hello, new followers! I'm sure a lot of you follow tons of people and haven't noticed, but I dont post frequently, and on top of that I've been having some trouble sticking to anything lately. In fact, I've only finished two prose books since 24 in 48. But you can see here what I'm reading now, and hopefully I'll finish it.
