Things You Save in a Fire

From the New York Times bestselling author of How to Walk Away comes a stunning new novel about courage, hope, and learning to love against all odds. Cassie Hanwell was born for emergencies. As one of the only female firefighters in her Texas firehouse, she's seen her fair share of them, and she's a total pro at other people's tragedies. But when her estranged and ailing mother asks her to give up her whole life and move to Boston, Cassie suddenly has an emergency of her own. The tough, old-school Boston firehouse is as different from Cassie's old job as it could possibly be. Hazing, a lack of funding, and poor facilities mean that the firemen aren't exactly thrilled to have a "lady" on the crew—even one as competent and smart as Cassie. Except for the infatuation-inspiring rookie, who doesn't seem to mind having Cassie around. But she can't think about that. Because love is girly, and it’s not her thing. And don’t forget the advice her old captain gave her: Never date firefighters. Cassie can feel her resolve slipping...and it means risking it all—the only job she’s ever loved, and the hero she’s worked like hell to become. Katherine Center's Things You Save in a Fire is a heartfelt and healing tour-de-force about the strength of vulnerability, the nourishing magic of forgiveness, and the life-changing power of defining courage, at last, for yourself.

I was so excited when I got an invitation to read this from Netgalley. I loved the authors book How to Walk Away. I loved this book too. It takes place in a firehouse and it is a love story between Cassie and the rookie. Cassie is just trying to fight for her spot in a firehouse of men. She is also trying to work through a messy relationship with her mother. This is also supposed to be a July #botm pick. Thanks @StMartinsPress for this ARC!

kstadt929 I can‘t wait to read this one ! 2d

Great second half! The initial setup was a bit slow, but I am quite happy I kept going! Once I got to that point, there was no return; finished the second half in one sitting. #ARC #thingsyousaveinafire #tysiaf #thingsyousavebook @StMartinsPress

Cassie and The Rookie. A love story set in a firehouse. This was a very enjoyable read. Cassie is a fire fighter, recently assigned to a new post. I liked getting a look inside a firehouse and into the fire fighter's life. I don't think I have ever read a book in this setting. I found it fascinating. As Cassie fights her growing attraction to The Rookie, she also has to deal with coworkers who don't want her on the job, and her mother's illness.

Victoriahoperose I have read Things You Save in a Fire and loved it. The other 2 look so good though! I‘m intrigued by The Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus!!! 1w
cwarnier Never let you go would definitely be outside of my usual read, but that is ok. The insignificant events in the life of a cactus looks interesting. I am game for anything though. 1w

Just finished #thingsyousavebook #tysiaf #arc thank you @StMartinsPress for this opportunity; this isn‘t my typical genre of book but when someone takes the time, money and effort to send a free ARC reading it is the least I can do. But I really enjoyed this book - couldn‘t put it down for the last half of the book. It‘s both light and deeply significant, a romance but with a fresh plot and perspective. I give this a solid 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Quick summer read. The author piles on the misogyny in order to point out that misogyny is bad. Just way too much for me in what might otherwise be a straightforward feel good read. #netgalley

Wow I really loved this book. Thank you so much to @StMartinsPress for this advanced copy. This was so full of feminism and love and insight about living life. A lot of it was idyllic, but I honestly enjoyed that part of it. Sometimes you need things to come together in some way and that‘s how I felt about this book. Beautiful writing and excellent story. #thingsyousaveinafire #stmartinspress #ARC

Did I blow off some work assignments and stay up until midnight to finish this? Yes. This is my 2nd Katherine Center book and I loved them both. I did have some minor issues with the plot and the ending but nothing that ruined the reading experience for me. Thanks #stmartinspress for the ARC! #arc #advancecopy

Lovely story with the moral centered upon what we gain when forgiving others. Katherine Center is becoming one of those authors whose books you buy even without reading the back cover. released in August, 2019

Let‘s not even talk about Rookie. In the words of Wayne - Schving! I don‘t know if he‘s McSteamy or McDreamy but he‘s certainly McYummy! As Cassie notes, we‘re all waiting for that annoying trait that makes you go hmm, but he was a natural shoulder for her to lean on. They suited each other. They fit the plot lines. And the secondary characters added a nice well rounded, comfort food feel!

Y‘all I read this book in one sitting. It was Ah-Mazing! Hanwell as a character is introverted, smart, strong and capable. She‘s the girl you want to be friends with cause she‘s a solid investment. I loved how this book felt like an extended Galentines day conversation over coffee - Cassie figuring it out as she goes.

*sigh of contentment*

I wish this happy place could have lasted a bit longer, but once I pick up one of Katherine Center's books, I can't put it down because it is so comfortable and pleasant.

This reminded me a lot of "How to Walk Away," and I mean that in the best sense....in fact there is a link that is a pleasant surprise. Cassie is a kick-ass firefighter & takes pride in being very good at...https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2705004889

After reading, I feel like I came away with learning a thing or two. I also have more of an appreciation for those that put their lives on the line every day for their communities. Many women, not just those that work in professions that have traditionally been male face incredible obstacles and sexism in their workplaces and this story shined a small light on what these women endure on a daily basis and for that, I applaud the author.
