Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents
Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents | Octavia E. Butler
20 posts | 16 read | 20 to read
A collector's edition box-set of two of Octavia E. Butler's most visionary science-fiction novels. Parable of the Sower is the Butlerian odyssey of one woman in 2015, Lauren Olamina, who is twice as feeling in a world that has become doubly dehumanized. Its sequel, Parable of the Talents, follows Lauren's daughter, living in a war-torn continent with a far-right religious crusader in the office of the U.S. presidency. Together these books present a dystopian landscape about a society whose very fabric has been torn asunder.

#Scarathon - Photo Challenge - Autumn 🍂

This duology will be forever linked with Election Season for me, because it actually gave me a lot of shaky solace during an anxious time. A strong reminder that you can do hard things, even if you‘re scared. I so wish Butler has been able to write more in this series. #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall

There is a such a clarity in the worlds Butler builds. Her work with these books is so sharp and precise. The kind of deconstruction and reconstruction of God and religion in ways that make so much sense to me in this time. Like 1984 these books scare me in how prophetic they are, but then they draw us a beautiful blueprint of revolution entrenched in community…teach us what leadership in service truly looks like in a way only a Black woman can.

I can‘t believe I have only just learned of these books. If you are looking for a heart wrenching dystopian these are for you. Octavia Butler was a phenomenal author and these books were captivating. These books also discuss important topics such as racism, sexism, and social class

I almost hate how stomach churnjngly prescient this book is.

ShyBookOwl Butler is a favourite author of mine, but this is the only book of hers I've put down. I fully plan to return to it one day, but I need to be in the right headspace 4y
Vansa @ShyBookOwl right now , it's an extremely stressful read!! I'm thinking of putting it away too!! 4y

The best book I read this year was actually a two-part series called Earthseed written by Octavia Butler back in 2000/2001, but it is a dystopian story that pertains to us in 2018. It was not an easy read, but it was powerful and it will stick with me. To an extent this author saw into the future--right down to the "Make America Great Again" slogan--I only hope not too far. SleepyDragon OMG, right? I only read the first book this year, but good golly! I was freaking out. I will read the second book, but I'm almost afraid I won't be able to handle it 5y
LoverofLit I read these both after seeing this post of yours and wanted to stop by and say thank you! I really enjoyed them. Eye opening and amazingly written ❤ 5y
Eggbeater @LoverofLit You made my day! That makes me so happy! I'm really glad you got something out of them too. ❤ 5y

🚨Ebook deal alert*🚨
Earthseed is available for a steal today only. This is one of my favorite #dystopian series; I read Parable of the Sower twenty years ago and fell completely in love with Octavia Butler. If you like the genre but haven‘t read this duology, add it to your #TBR and your ereader ASAP.

*I don‘t usually do these, but Earthseed is among the best of the genre and I really want more people to know about this excellent work.

#Believer

These books, about believers and non-believers, and the horrific possibilities of radicalisation of belief (among many many other themes) are two of my best of 2017. Butler is such an amazing world builder, I am a huge believer in her talent!
