Mary Queen Of Scotland And The Isles
Mary Queen Of Scotland And The Isles | Margaret George
Mary, Queen of Scotland and the Isles is the story of a woman born to rule a nation and the glorious pageant of love and tragedy that followed in her wake. Mary's beauty inspired poetry yet her birthright engendered hideous treachery and terrible, bloody murder. This novel is Margaret George's magnificent recreation of the life of one of history's greatest legends. A woman accused of murdering her husband to marry her lover. A woman who became Queen six days after her birth in 1542 only to be beheaded forty years later on the orders of her cousin, Elizabeth I . . .

It's very 🥶 cold here today so having a lazy day, snuggling in bed with blankets, cats, and this tome. I bought it a few years ago after reading Alison Uttley's A Traveler in Time and becoming quite fascinated by Mary, Queen of Scots. And then I lost interest. But quite enjoying it now.

MsMelissa I loved that book! I think I read it in high school, which was a really long time ago 😕 3y
Ruthiella Good reasoning/argument for maintaining a library...you never know when it might be the right time for a book purchased years ago. 😀 3y
LeahBergen I read this years ago and really enjoyed it. 👍🏻 3y

merelybookish @MsMelissa Published in 1992! Have you read any of her other books? 3y
merelybookish @Ruthiella True! Never know what thr reading mood will desire. 🙂 3y
merelybookish @LeahBergen It's a good story. She obviously did a ton of research but it moves like a novel. 3y
MsMelissa 1992? I read it when it was first published, so I was right in my recollection that I read it in high school. I‘ve also read Helen of Troy, Elizabeth I, and her two books about Nero. This one remains my favourite, but all of her books are good. 3y

I've read a lot of books about Tudor England, but I think this is the first I've read that was from the point of view of Mary Stewart. It was interesting to relearn about that period in history from a different perspective.

Inspired by one of the books in my #blinddatebokswap just booked to see this movie (the trailer looks lush!). I have until Jan 28 to read the book ( prior to the movie!)

Itchyfeetreader I did not know about the film - off to look! 5y
Birdsong28 I'm going to see this can't wait!!! 📚📖 5y
Mitch @Birdsong28 it‘s meant to have taken a few liberties with truth...but it looks visually gorgeous 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 5y

Mitch @Itchyfeetreader looks great - off to see it at The Castle on Chatsworth Road on Jan 28..feel free to join us! 5y
Birdsong28 @Mitch I'm currently watching Reign on Netflix and that has taken more than a few liberties with her early story so it just comes with the territory. I'm actually surprised it's on at my cinema as it's not a 'big' film but it should be good as you said it looks gorgeous. 📚📖 5y
Mitch @Birdsong28 reign...I‘ll check that out 👍🏼 5y

I am totally immersed in this 865 page book, can't believe I was passing it up due to the size. I have my reference magazine (on left) and it's so exciting. Already half way through!

Lreads Nice having a reference you can turn to while you read! I do that with an atlas. 7y
saresmoore Cool! I love it when that happens! 7y
TrishB I loved this one. She's a great author. 7y

#FeistyFeb Day 18 - Historical Heroine

I'm absolutely fascinated by the Mary Queen of Scots figure, and this novelization of her life is one of my favorites!

#historicalheroine #maryqueenofscots

BeckaroniAndCheese I loved this book and this author! Have you read her other novels? 7y
Melissa_J I loved that book. Great choice! 7y
BooksForYears @BeckaroniAndCheese I haven't...what others by her would you recommend? 7y
See All 9 Comments
BeckaroniAndCheese @BooksForYears The Autobiography of King Henry VIII was my first and I was hooked. She's also written one about Cleopatra and one on Mary Magdalene, both of which were awesome. AND, there's a new one coming this spring! 7y
SaraFair I got this for $1 at our last library sale. Have been too intimidated by it's size to read it yet. Glad that you liked it, now I need to get on it! 7y
booksandsympathy I read the book Elizabeth and Mary: Cousins, Rivals, Queens by Jane Dunn and I was actually surprised at how much I empathized with Mary and kind of thought Elizabeth was a bitch. I realize they were both being manipulated, but it changed my views on both of them. 7y
BethFishReads I listened to this. I liked it 7y
BookThia I have a copy of this somewhere. I should dig it out and finally read it! 7y
Smangela Have you seen Reign? I've been watching on Netflix and it's obviously fictionalized but entertaining 😍 7y

Another epic work by Margaret George. I think I've read this one a few times - humanizes the fascinating figure of Mary.
