Shelf space: modern package design, 1945-1965 | 
So I am going to have a library in my new house and I really wanted Billy shelves from Ikea but my husband has been searching Craigslist multiple times a day for shelves with “soul” and today I just caved. I mean they are ok but I‘m just not sure. There is a light in one of them and the price was good. Plus the shelves are adjustable. Any opinions? You won‘t hurt my feelings! 😊

Clwojick I love them, although I can see wanting the ones from ikea if you want multiple shelves to match. I have two wooden bookshelves similar to these, and although I love them, I‘ll never find matching ones if if/when I want more room for books. I‘m a fan of the ikea ones because you can always go online and buy another matching shelf when need be. 5y

Addison_Reads I'm a fan. Once they are filled with colorful books, they'll look warm and inviting. 💚 I prefer bookshelves with character rather than just a cookie-cutter commercial style, but that's just me. 5y

Melkyl I like them. My husband was a “Craigslist” and/or “Habitat” guy too, so I get the frustration. Look at it this way...the money you save on bookcases can be spent on books! Dress them up any way you want by painting them or doing whatever you want to them. 5y

Izai.Amorim It doesn't look like you could paint them easily. Surface looks like varnish coat. Is it? A lot of sandpaper... It definitely has personality as as such requires a lot of space. Billys are neutral and disappear in the background. I'm a big Billy fan! 5y
LibrarianRyan These do have personality. They are a bit dark. But that can be remedied. I like Billy‘s but it‘s not heavy duty furniture. These get look like they will hold up. 5y
