Inspired by true events, the New York Times bestselling novel The Girl Who Came Home is the poignant story of a group of Irish emigrants aboard RMS Titanic--a seamless blend of fact and fiction that explores the tragedy's impact and its lasting repercussions on survivors and their descendants.Ireland, 1912. Fourteen members of a small village set sail on RMS Titanic, hoping to find a better life in America. For seventeen-year-old Maggie Murphy, the journey is bittersweet. Though her future lies in an unknown new place, her heart remains in Ireland with Seamus, the sweetheart she left behind. When disaster strikes, Maggie is one of the lucky few passengers in steerage who survives. Waking up alone in a New York hospital, she vows never to speak of the terror and panic of that terrible night ever again.Chicago, 1982. Adrift after the death of her father, Grace Butler struggles to decide what comes next. When her Great Nana Maggie shares the painful secret she harbored for almost a lifetime about the Titanic, the revelation gives Grace new direction--and leads her and Maggie to unexpected reunions with those they thought lost long ago.

Went for a little twist on #Mayday, this is the international distress call, so chose a Titanic book I have recently read.

Although historical fiction is not a genre I typically read, I have been trying to read more.

Whether the facts about the Titanic in this novel are accurate or not, I couldn't tell you. I really enjoyed this book though. It follows a group of young women hoping for a better life in America, but sadly they don't all survive. It's told from the pov of the girl who survives, and her great granddaughter.

It's an immersive and heartfelt read. 💚

Andrew65 This is one I also enjoyed when I read it earlier this month. 4y

Only my second Hazel Gaynor book but really loved both of them. If you enjoy Titanic books, or historical fiction books with a dual time line then I strongly recommend this one which was engaging from beginning to end. Really brings home the emotions of the Titanic before, during and after the unsinkable ship does exactly that. Be prepared to feel your heart strings being pulled.

Started listening to this book about The Titanic. Enjoyed the previous book I read by Hazel Gaynor, which took in Grace Darling‘s exploits.

Now at 22 hrs 28 mins in the #24B4Monday Readathon.

Today, April 15th 2019, marks the 107th anniversary of the sinking of RMS Titanic. This blend of fact and fiction story is one awesome read. Slow burn and character driven, I enjoyed Gaynor's writing.

I liked this book, it really made me think of the people on Titanic as real people. Also I enjoyed reading the story from the lower class passengers‘ perspective. Maybe it‘s just the books that I have read, but a lot of the ones I‘ve read are from the first class perspective. This is a typical historical romance. Slightly sappy, but I still liked it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐
The first of several #Titanic novels I plan to read this month. This was an excellent story of a young Irish girl surviving the Titanic disaster. I love the narrator. The story also has dual timelines, we see Maggie and her great granddaughter Grace in 1982. #Overdrive

• 106 years ago today—early this morning, actually—the Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. I‘ll never forget how learning about this fated ship impacted my young life and kicked off a lifelong fascination with the incredibly tragic story. My love for this ship will “go on.” •

The second novel from #LMPBC Round 1-
This got off to a slow start for me, but picked up steam as I approached the halfway mark. A story of survival in the face of tragedy that I really enjoyed, though I felt that things wrapped up a bit too neatly. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I feel like there are better Titanic-based stories out there. This book was just okay. It felt too predictable and at times really cliche.

I've been fascinated by the Titanic for as long as I can remember. So many different people with so many dreams when tragedy struck. This book follows Maggie and a group of people from her town in Ireland while also jumping to the "future" to 1982 to Maggie's granddaughter Grace. I loved this tale based on and actual group from Ireland. While we all know what happened to Titanic I found myself hoping for a different outcome.

This book was okay. The story is entertaining but the characters felt two-dimensional and flat. Even their names were utterly forgettable. Plus it's easy to guess how the story wraps up before you get there because it hint-drops like crazy. It's unfortunate because it had so much more potential. 😟

BookBabe Yes, that is unfortunate 😕 8y
