A Grave Matter
A Grave Matter | Anna Lee Huber
Scotland, 1830. Following the death of her dear friend, Lady Kiera Darby is in need of a safe haven. Returning to her childhood home, Kiera hopes her beloved brother Trevor and the merriment of the Hogmanay Ball will distract her. But when a caretaker is murdered and a grave is disturbed at nearby Dryburgh Abbey, Kiera is once more thrust into the cold grasp of death. While Kiera knows that aiding in another inquiry will only further tarnish her reputation, her knowledge of anatomy could make the difference in solving the case. But agreeing to investigate means Kiera must deal with the complicated emotions aroused in her by inquiry agent Sebastian Gage. When Gage arrives, he reveals that the incident at the Abbey was not the firstsome fiend is digging up old bones and holding them for ransom. Now Kiera and Gage must catch the grave robber and put the case to restbefore another victim winds up six feet under.

This is third in series of the Lady Darby mysteries. I‘m doing a FB re-read read-along of the series with a group of fans and the author. This is one of my favorites as we are introduced to the dangerous but charismatic Bonnie Brock Kincaid…the bad boy you can‘t help but love. So cool to be able to ask questions and hear insights from the author on each book leading up to her most current release (number 9) this past April.

Bookzombie So true! I can‘t help but love Bonnie Brock. 3y
robinb @Bookzombie I know, right?! I think he needs his own spin-off series...I'd definitely buy it! :) 3y

I love this series! This is only the 3rd book and I can‘t wait to dive into the next one. Kiera and Gage are my favorite! Definitely my favorite historical mystery series! I love that it‘s set in Scotland and the mysteries are always really interesting. Thanks so much for the book @inthegreensandblues

I have always been a mystery fan since my dad introduced me to Perry Mason (TV) & Agatha Christie as a kid. Not too gory or scary fir me. I noticed that since Covid I have upped that genre reading with an occasional novel or non fiction thrown in. My escape!

alisiakae My parents watched Perry Mason too! My favorite to watch with them during my childhood years was Murder She Wrote. 4y
Moonprismpower I watched the 1985 perry mason reboot but not the original. But did you ever watch Columbo? 😂 And then it was Monk for me. 4y
kspenmoll @4thhouseontheleft Watched that too! 4y
kspenmoll @Moonprismpower My dad let me stay up. with him to watch the originals. So special! . Yes, enjoyed Columbo immensely! Monk too. 4y

Mehso-so

Flawed (and frankly silly) as these books can be, I usually enjoy them precisely for these features. The appalling “Scottish“ accents, the not-quite-there social mores, the Americanisms that creep in. I'm fairly sure that lockdown is the reason that I didn't have as much fun with this one but I'd still recommend them to anyone who needs a bit of escapism.

5. The Princess Bride. I love it but I hate the book!
6. Literally 100s, hopefully isolation will help me make a dent
7. Right now I'd love cosy Cranford
8. NW by Zadie Smith. Hated it until the final ⅓
9. Keep going. Read when and what helps
10. Anywhere
11. At the Back of the North Wind, 101 Dalmatians, Heidi

3rd in the Lady Darby series—Victorian Gothic murder mysteries. Domestic abuse survivor, widow, portrait painter, & 2 time crime solver Lady D is caught up in a new whodunnit (the “it” in question being graves robbed for ransom—go figure). The real detective (“inquiry agent”), Sebastian Gage, returns to solve the crimes & perhaps finally resolve his feelings for Lady D. Parties, fights, chases, intriguing criminals, detailed minor characters.

#marchintoreading This bag rarely holds books, but I count it as a #book bag because it came from one of my favorite authors. Before the release of one of Anna Lee Huber's Lady Darby books, I volunteered to distribute some promotional materials at local libraries and to reader friends. In return, I got this bag that goes to the market with me on a regular basis.

Maybe my favorite in the series so far. While the mystery plot was very original/interesting, it was the character development and introduction of new characters that excited me most. Keira's and Sebastian's relationship moved along nicely (both personally and professionally), but we were also introduced to more of Keira's extended family and a very intriguing "underworld" figure named Bonnie Brock, who I hope to see more of in future ventures.

My first book of 2017! I'm just loving the Lady Darby series and am flying through it. There are few things more satisfying than realizing that the entire series is available on overdrive. But how are more people not reading this?!

Well-written with fascinating mysteries, this historical series has just the right amount of romance and a very loveable family at its heart. It's great to see Lady Darby coming into her own.

Nebklvr Love this series and also the Sebastian st cyr series 7y
Moonpa I was wondering about this series.... I will definitely put them on my list! 7y

I love these books. And the audio narration is amazing. Murder. Grave robbing. And more flirting by Gage. Plus we get to meet more of Kiera's family. Definitely check out this series.
