pick5⭐️ again, no other rating would be worthy of this book. In the next part of Maya Angelou‘s biography, we look at her life as a teenager and young adult. The struggle was real in the heartache is definitely present. This was my older sisters pic for my #FriendsPickForMe Challenge this year.

pickThis is the second book of an autobiographical series from Maya Angelou. I found it difficult to read because she experiences so many challenges and hardships. It‘s unlike anything I know. I am learning and thinking because of her.
pickVolume 2 of May Amgelou's remarkable life story and a really incredible tale of a 18/19 year old young mother who has to survive in the world. Destined to be drawn to unsuitable men she is brutally honest about her life and her passion. She works variously as cook, dancer, managing sex workers + falling into prostitution after believing a lovers sob story. Astonishing and compelling I can't wait to read bk 3. No wonder she was such a titan.
pickThis reads like a novel. What an interesting story! This is the second book in her memoir series.

pickClear eyed, lyrical, and unsentimental depiction of the author‘s life as a young mother, daughter, sister. She endured some hardships and encountered many people who let her down, but she always persisted.
I read the fourth in the series first, and then late I read the first book. Now I‘m looking forward to filling in the gaps with book three.

Maya Angelou had seen some dark things in her life.I thought that I had seen some dark things and blamed it on my mental illness.But she got herself cought in some situations that had the power to change her forever.And she was mentally strong and smart.My second book of hers.Im reading them in order of publication.

This amazing book had the rare quality of being able to describe very painful events with authenticity and rawness but never being so bleak I couldn‘t stomach reading it, it was never misery porn. Maya Angelou is really something else, I have no idea how she infuses this wit and liveliness into horrible events. I just want to read everything she‘s ever read

pickI really enjoyed Maya Angelou's second in her series of biographies. Will definitely be reading the rest. Her story is unbelievable and her words are captivating. This book covers her early adulthood as a single mum trying to make ends meet.
'My courage was dwindling. Unfortunately, fortitude was not like the color of my skin, given to me once and mine forever. It needed to be resurrected each morning and exercised painstakingly. It also had to be fed with at least a few triumphs. My strength had fallen away from me as the pert features fade from an aging beauty' p.211

pickThe second of seven autobiographies written by Angelou, this one chronicles her from the birth of her son at age 16 to the age of 20, where she struggles to be a mother when she is still a child herself. The themes of heartbreak and ignorance and resolve throughout this novel make this short read an important one.
Oh Maya. If you only knew at 20 years what you would accomplish in your lifetime and how beautifully you would be remembered after you were gone ❤
My 3 year old pokes the cover of my book while I'm reading. "Hey, who's that guy Mommy?"
Me chuckling: "That's a woman, sweet boy. Her name is Maya."
Him: "Maya. Mommy can she be part of the family? Maya, and Mommy, and Daddy, and Josephine and Me!"

I love starting a used book and finding pieces of the prior owner's personality left behind ❤ Life is a marathon. Not a sprint!
pickThis book takes place immediately following “Caged bird” and Maya is struggling to find her place in the world. This story made her relatable for those of us who grew up admiring her soo much. I saw her struggling with some of the same issues I‘ve been thru myself. This was well written and brutally honest. I applaud her for having the strength to tell her truth.
I spent a little over 5 hours reading this book today for the #25inFive challenge with @Andrew65 I‘m up to almost 13 hours! A small portion of that time was while waiting for dinner at Fired Pie, pictured above. I only have about 30 pages left!
Happy Birthday Maya Angelou! I‘m looking forward to reading this in April!
pickI am always amazed at what the human spirit can overcome. If one didn‘t know how things turned out for Angelou this would be bleak indeed. As it is, it‘s not as powerful as Caged Bird, but still a good read. I will continue the series but maybe from the library instead of buying them. And this takes me to #PikesPeak on #MountTBR

"By eighteen I managed to look run down if not actually run over." ? Such a wonderful way with words.
pickSome of the most beautiful prose I've ever read, used in an unflinching autobiography. As opposed to I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, when Angelou was a child and therefore not in control of her life, in this volume we see her take her first steps into adulthood and make some unwise decisions. She can be naïve, vindictive, flighty and neglectful to her son, but always intelligent, strong-willed and fascinating. Truly a masterpiece.
