YA duology. Quick fun read but not what I really hoped for or wanted. I was told there was mountain climbing and dragons and while both comments are true, dragons are glorified nightlights though, it was mostly meh for me. Not much happens, for very long stretches. Fun but 🤷♀️

pickIt‘s been a while since I read a ya or a fantasy book of this sort. There were dragons and a quest and some colonialism.
pickAn enjoyable YA fantasy in a well imagined and interesting world that feels Himalaya-esque. A quest story with an original magic system and amazing surprises along the way. Witches, ghosts, familiars, and a fire demon like you haven‘t met before! Really adventurous, with more than a touch of treachery - but beware, it‘s a cliffhanger! Also, a totally fun & original & excellent take on dragons 🐉

FINALLY getting to read this beauty! Only on page 38 but so far it reminds me of getting swept up in fairy-tale type books when I was younger. Also gets points for having a really cute first meeting with (I‘m guessing) the love interest. #isntitjustsoprettyyyy #whatsnottoloveaboutthisstory

pickProbably should have waited to read this one when it was warm out. The whole book pretty much takes place climbing a mountain and the ice, snow, frostbite and cold just made me shiver the whole way through. Lots of adventure, magic and close calls. Great surprising ending that is a “cliffhanger” and great set up for the next book.
pickSo I‘ve been raving about this book since I started it, and I‘m not going to lie, it was totally worth every moment of suspense for me.
I loved Kamzin and her attitude, though she needed to shut up and stop her nonsense and just climb after a while. Which she did. Which I loved. She was such a fun character to follow from start to finish, and her journey is fabulously done.
I loved every moment of this. 4.5⭐️
pickI‘d say like a 3.5-4 ⭐️. I liked this book. The setting is unique and the writing is gorgeous and descriptive. You definitely feel like you‘re on the mountain. The story was good, maybe a little on the slow side. BUT THE PLOT TWIST!!! I need the sequel!!! Definitely recommend checking this one out!

pickI loved this book! The setting is stellar, a magical mountainous world loosely based on Tibetan culture. Beautifully written with well-paced action, this is a perfect read for winter. Would have given a full 5 stars if we could have avoided the obligatory YA love triangle and resultant angst, though here I found it less annoying than usual.

pickGood quick read. I enjoyed the adventure and the character development. It didn't rub me the wrong way like most YA novels have this last year. The descriptions of the settings made me feel like I was there.

pickI just loved this book and how it was written. What an amazing world! The characters were well thought out and the set up of the story was fantastic. You could feel what they were feeling and I was just on the edge of my seat at certain points. ugh, Kamzin is such a good character and I don't know if I hate or like River but I still want them together so bad! I feel like Kamzin going evil would be awesome but she's too good a person. I'm not sure I like Kam's sister which makes me so he's tantrum to take the side of traditional "good." But if River wasn't lying then I want "evil" to win! Ugh! Inner turmoil!
Had a nice hike this morning and now I‘m settling down to read some more on this one. I‘m loving it so far.
My favorite genre to read in the fall/winter months is fantasy. I finished One Dark Throne earlier this week and hope to get to these other new releases soon once I have finished my spooky books for October readathons. Thoughts on any of these?
