Hate to Want You: Forbidden Hearts | Alisha Rai
115 posts | 82 read | 1 reading | 53 to read
Alisha Rai, one of contemporary romances brightest stars, makes her Avon Books debut with the first novel in the sexy Forbidden Hearts series! One night. No one will know. That was the deal. Every year, Livvy Kane and Nicholas Chandler would share one perfect night of illicit pleasure. The forbidden hours let them forget the tragedy that haunted their pastsand the last names that made them enemies. Until the night she didnt show up. Now Nicholas has an empire to run. He doesnt have time for distractions and Livvys sudden reappearance in town is a major distraction. Shes the one woman he shouldnt want . . . so why cant he forget how right she feels in his bed? Livvy didnt come home for Nicholas, but fate seems determined to remind her of his presenceand their past. Although the passion between them might have once run hot and deep, not even love can overcome the scandal that divided their families. Being together might be against all the rules . . . but being apart is impossible.

Book two of #24in48 done! This was a great diversion but a little heavier than I was expecting. I appreciate the realism though. I‘d definitely read the other ones in this series. #romantsy

Am at 10 hours, 46 minutes and getting sleepy, but will try and start something new before I pass out!

See my GoodReads review above! I have a lot of feels about this book. I definitely plan to keep reading this series! These books are definitely more erotic and steamy than I‘m used to, but I didn‘t hate it! 😊

I listened to this on audio and it was great!

My #currentread - Audio version

I started listening to this audio yesterday and listened for 6 straight hours! 😬😬 so good!!

I don‘t usually read contemporary romance novels, but I‘m really enjoying this one.

Laughterhp @Notafraidofwords Listening to it with headphones wasn‘t bad. It‘s not the first audio I‘ve listened to. But listening to it out loud with my husband home made me feel a little awkward 6y

Shades of Romeo & Juliet. Livvy Kane and Nicholas Chandler are pampered children of wealthy families torn apart by a tragedy and the resulting family feud. Livvy leaves her hometown after Nicholas dumps her. For ten years, they meet once a year for a night of passion. When Livvy returns home, she finds herself unavoidably drawn to Nicholas, despite their families‘ objections.

Finally got around to reading this one, and I really enjoyed it. The characters were relatable, mental health struggles felt real, the story was interesting, and the sex scenes were great. Looking forward to the next book!

This book is 🔥! I read book two before book one (this is book one), but the order isn't really important at least for these two. Characters who belong to different warring families, hot sexytimes, and a well-done portrayal of a character with depression. It's an interesting mix!

It's been a good week for my #romantsy reading!

#24in48 wrap-up! I had a busy weekend and wasn't great at updating on social media, but I did start & finish 2 books (Hate to Want You and The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion) and start 2 others (Spinning Silver and Bonfire). It was nice to have some reading motivation even if I wasn't able to participate that much! @24in48

erzascarletbookgasm I agree, it‘s a great reading motivation, otherwise I wouldn‘t have read as much on a normal weekend. You did good! 6y

After reading The Kiss Quotient and loving it last month, I've been wanting to give more romance a try. All of the characters in Hate to Want You are very well-developed, and I thought there was a good level of angst with the family conflicts. I really liked the central relationship as well, and I'm looking forward to picking up more from Alisha Rai in the future! I'm glad to find an author that lives up to the hype, and I gave this book 4⭐️

Seriously awesome panel today at #bookcon about Toxic Male Syndrome with a bunch of romance authors whose books I now need to read!! Alisha Rai in particular had such great things to say about writing strong male characters vs toxic ones, and there was a lot of discussion about subverting tropes.

This was my first romance and I got to say that I liked it! I liked that everyone felt so real, that the history between everyone was on every page. I listened to it on audio and there was something about people talking to dirty to each other in my ears that had me go “oh my!” 😂😂Will definitely grab the second and third in the series

AlaMich Jenn on Book Riot is always talking about how much she loves this series. I keep meaning to read the first one, just haven‘t gotten around to it yet. 😊 6y
KassKho @AlaMich that‘s exactly why I picked it up! And she‘s right! It‘s really good and I like that the next two books in the series deal with the side characters because I really wanted to know more about them 6y

Great #romantsy! It‘s a Romeo & Juliet-ish story of a childhood sweethearts whose parents betrayed and stole from each other, who are both dealing with some hefty emotional issues. It‘s a heavier read but light on dram for drama‘s sake. (TW for depression and discussion of suicide)
