I'm glad I found Litsy. I read at least 40 books a year and I don't count the endless children's books I read every week to the preschooler. My total pales in comparison to some, but it's considerably more than the average American.

Amiable It always makes me sad to hear that people don't read a single book in a year. I gave my brother a biography of his favorite musician and he told me he probably wouldn't read it because he "hasn't read a book since high school." He's 46. I don't think that's something to brag about. ? 5y

Crazeedi Thanks for article! Reading has taken me places and taught me things I would otherwise not have experienced. Ot is total joy to pick up a new book, smell it, open the cover, read the title page and all, and then jump in!😊❤ 5y

WhatThePuck @laurenbescoby exactly. My sister in law tells me she has zero time to read. Her kids go to bed earlier than mine. She says she's too tired to read after they go to bed. I said it's about priorities. Quit saying you don't have time just say you don't want to. It's that simple. Don't try and negate the time I make and dedicate. 5y

'I'm time-poor' is a phrase I hear a lot from some of my friends, and yet they spend hours playing video games etc. Fine if that's how you want to spend your time, we all have different hobbies but then they say they don't have time to do important things. Definitely priorities. 5y

WhatThePuck @laurenbescoby same sister in law...we took our boys to see Bumblebee on Tues. I mentioned that's the first thing I've watched all the way through during daylight hours since before Xmas. I stayed up way too late and binged You on Netflix recently. She said she's caught up on all of her shows. All 5 of them. Me mentally calculating my 'shows,' yup I have exactly 1 and they stream thru their app so I'm good even if I'm not caught up. 😂 #priorities 5y

laurieluna @WhatThePuck I'm not caught up on mine at all 😂 really want to watch You, it was one of my faves of last year. I find it more mentally taxing having to watch images and listen to words then piece them both together. Reading for me is easier! I know a lot of people (my partner for example) finds the opposite to be true . 5y

WhatThePuck @laurenbescoby it was a fun watch, but he's not nearly as funny in the show as he is in the book. 😂 It was nice to actually watch an actor be completely normal while you listen to the dialogue in his head. 5y

Amiable @laurenbescoby @WhatThePuck Your comments about people negating the time you take to read struck a chord. I was on the shuttle into work one day, reading (as always), and an older woman actually said to me that she never reads because she's (actual quote) "busy doing real things in life instead." Like reading is wasting time when we could be LIVING REAL LIFE. I didn't even know what to say. 5y

WhatThePuck @Amiable irl wasting all of that time staring out the window instead of reading. I wonder what she does at 9pm every night to be doing things IRL. Does she have parties until she falls asleep? 5y

MicheleinPhilly @Amiable I know exactly what you mean - I posted a collage of my favorite books of 2018 and one of my BILs said, “That‘s more books than I‘ve read in my whole life.” He thought it was oh so funny. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 5y

SandraG I‘m a librarian dealing with books all day and my day wouldn‘t be complete or the same without reading, period! I read and or listened to 250 books this year! Friends and family think I‘m nuts, but my fellow Littens know that I am not!🧐🤓💕📚 5y

Trollkonstnaren @WhatThePuck Oh, sorry! Anyway, of the topic -this time: In a sense I can understand people, who do not have time to read, because they have different prioriries. But at least they admit that reading is good 🙃 They could say how reading is waste of time and better to go out and meet people/do something else. When I first time heard that comment, I felt bad, but later decided not to let it bug me. Their lifes, their choises. My life, my choise📖 5y

Just wanted to thank all you Littens.. 6 months ago I hit 1000 litfluence. (I think I read an average of around 12-books a year the last few years). Now I‘m over 30,000 and I‘ve read 124 books in the last 6 months! I can‘t even believe it! Litsy is definitely to thank for it! Love this community!
