#AuldLangSpine wrap-up! I thoroughly enjoyed reading from @monalyisha ‘s list in January. I read three—all new to me—and I‘m glad to have discovered them! Lost & Found was hands-down my favorite: gorgeous writing, beautifully structured, meaningful and thought-provoking. And I still feel so privileged to have my list hand-picked—I‘m looking forward to reading more from your list in the coming months (currently in the middle of Hijab Butch Blues)!

monalyisha It seems like Hijab Butch Blues will be a great pairing for your recent read (Beyond a Binary God)! 3mo
BarbaraJean @monalyisha Yes! So many parallels between the two! 3mo

A highlight of my reading year has always been the New Year matches organized by @monalyisha My match this year is no exception. Looking at @larkken fantastic list (in the comments) I have several on my TBR & there are even a couple that I am anticipating receiving as possible gifts. So, where to start? At the moment the 3 contenders for first book of the year are: Chain Gang All Stars, Rouge, The Wager. Needless to say, I will be reading several!

vivastory #AuldLangSpine excellent selections:
1. In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado
2. Chain Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah
3. The Spy and the Traitor by Ben Macintyre
4. Rouge by Mona Awad
5. The Round House by Louise Erdrich
6. Rocannon's World by Ursula K. Le Guin
7. The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty
8. The Cooking Gene by Michael W. Twitty
9. East of Eden by John Steinbeck
(cont)

vivastory 10. Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto
11. Bookshops and Bonedust by Travis Baldree
12. The Wager by David Grann
13. The Skull by Jon Klassen
14. Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff
15. Dracula by Bram Stoker
16. The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka
*The only one of these that I have read (a favorite classic) is Dracula.

jlhammar Great list. The Wager is excellent, loved The Round House and The Skull is pretty awesome (I think you‘d dig it). 4mo

Larkken I was excited to see a couple on your list that are by the same authors as above and who were new to me last year 😄 lots of fun opportunities for exploration 🤓 4mo
vivastory @jlhammar I had never heard of The Skull, but it looks like a lot of fun. I have been wanting to read more Erdrich since I read The Sentence last year. I think about that book a lot. 4mo
vivastory @Larkken Some really wonderful choices! I was looking at the plot synopsis for the Le Guin. That is one that I am not familiar with. I have read only a couple by her, but they have both been wonderful 4mo
Larkken @jlhammar @vivastory Klassen may be my favorite modern illustrator, so I couldn't resist The Skull last spooky season 🖤 4mo
Larkken @vivastory it's an early Le Guin and fairly quick! I'm not sure if it's a fan or critic favorite, hah. However, I really felt the anthropology influences and I was entranced by all the versions of sentience she thought up in it, personally. (edited) 4mo
Larkken Oh! Plus the fan art for Rocannons World is bomb. I wonder if there're any graphic novel versions of it? That could be super fun... 4mo
merelybookish Great list! In the Dream House is amazing! 4mo
vivastory @merelybookish I loved Machado's story collection, so I am really looking forward to In The Dream House 4mo
Aimeesue Fabulous list! The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi was one of my favorite reads this year. And Klassen is always fantastic! 4mo

This is my final round-up for January‘s #AuldLangSpine event, along with my list. I finished 3 books & am in the middle of The Cartographers—and I‘ve really enjoyed them all. Especially Babel, which was fantastic and will probably make it onto my best-of list by the end of the year. There are so many others here that I want to explore, and I‘m planning to continue to read from the list throughout the year. Thank you @Karisimo for such great picks!

I‘m so excited for my first #AuldLangSpine! It‘s never easy narrowing down all the books I loved in a year to a list of 20, but I did it. I can‘t wait to see who you match me with @monalyisha and what books I‘ll be diving into next year. Thank you for the hard work you put into this event!

I grabbed a cup of coffee & leisurely filled out the form for #auldlangspine with the list I‘ve been lovingly curating for the past 10 months, because this is one of my favorite Litsy events. Thank you @monalyisha for hosting & the early sign up! And I like the name change, since I always messed up the old name! 😂

monalyisha What a lovely note and hilariously perfect graphic. Thank you! 🥳🙏🏻 1y

Just under the wire (well, I have 2 hours left)! Glad I managed that many this year (original goal was 125), and I think I'll up it to 150 for next year. The only challenge I'm doing so far for 2017 is a modified alpha author challenge from my own shelves. Will write up some details tomorrow, need to figure some logistics tonight.
I'm so thankful that I have all of you and #Litsy in my life!
Here's hoping for a much better 2017! 😘🍾
