Finally finished this collection. While some of the stories were better than others, I‘ve learned that I‘m still not the biggest fan of short stories. However, the stories that I enjoyed the most made me a little misty-eyed, and I appreciated the various topics and settings found in this collection. #FallOPFiction #buddyread

Aims42 Great review! I have yet to find a short stories collection I like, so I‘m extremely hesitant to read them 2w
Crazeedi There are a couple of these on my kindle that I got. With the various authors. I was hoping they would be good reads. I didn't get this one though 2w
Librarybelle @Aims42 Thank you! 2w
Librarybelle @Crazeedi I have a few others too in my collection. There were a few in this collection I really liked. My favorite was probably by Jennifer Robson - it seemed like everything wrapped up nicely. 2w

Well, it was our first #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead of a #ShortStory collection and ... I found it just a little too easy to put down.

I did enjoy the ‘sample‘ of several authors‘ styles to consider for future TBR lists though.

⭐️⭐️

#FallOPFiction

Librarybelle I‘m still reading through it. I agree - nice samples for future authors for the group! 3w
Melissa_J I think I‘ve just given up on it. Short stories that aren‘t connected in some way just aren‘t my thing. 3w

Final finish for #24in48! I have almost reached the 24hr mark and won‘t finish another book, so this will be final finish.

As with any collection of short stories, some of these were better than others. I have added to my TBR with novels by a few of these authors. I enjoyed this #FallOPFiction with @Librarybelle and @CouronneDhiver and my other fellow readers.

Librarybelle I still have a bit to read with this one 1mo
CouronneDhiver Not nearly as successful as our novel buddy reads, huh? My bad! 🤷🏽‍♀️ @Librarybelle 1mo
Librarybelle I think it‘s more that I got swamped again with work stuff, and because they‘re short stories, the book was easier to put down than other books. I didn‘t even finish the books I had to read for library discussions! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 1mo

This was between a pick and so-so for me. I‘m not a short story fan but I didn‘t know much about WWI. That & the #buddyread schedule kept me going.

In honor of the quote above & the Armistice, I wanted to share this awesome recording the Imperial War Museum recreated the sounds of the Armistice.

We‘re on our final week for #FallOPFiction . I‘m a little behind on the short stories...how is everyone else doing?

Later on today I‘ll post info on the next #buddyread . @CouronneDhiver and I are looking for a name for our group. We love doing these buddy reads, and we‘ve consistently hosted several, with a few more in the works, that it‘s time for us to create a more formal name/hashtag for our group. If you have an idea, let us know!

Melissa_J I‘m having trouble with this one. I‘m just not a short story fan. Willig‘s was well done, but I‘ve not been able to get much beyond it 🙁 1mo
Librarybelle @Melissa_J I put it down to focus on other readings with deadlines, and I‘m struggling to pick it back up, even though I know I could get through a short story a night. I‘m definitely more of a novel person than a short story person, but I‘m glad I‘m trying this! 1mo
megnews I finished. Getting ready to post a review. As far as short stories go these weren‘t bad. I did t know much about wwi so I think that‘s what kept me going. 1mo

Mollyanna I‘m about halfway through. Like @Librarybelle I had to put it down for some other reads. The short stories are quick and I hope to have it finished by next week. 1mo

We‘re onto week two of our #FallOPFiction #buddyread ! So far, I like Jennifer Robson‘s story the best, though I‘m partial to anything by Willig. What are your thoughts?

StayCurious I liked the first story but I felt it wrapped up too quickly and nicely. That‘s the problem sometimes with short stories. I think the love story could have been fleshed out a bit. Willig‘s was well-written and intriguing-but I was left feeling let down and sad at the end. I guess I don‘t like when romances don‘t work out because of misunderstandings. 2mo
Melissa_J I have read the first story and am more than halfway through the Willig (but will finish tonight). I‘m not a fan of short stories, but thought this collection would be similar to other historical fiction short story collaborations I‘ve read where each individual story is connected. I‘m a little sad it doesn‘t appear to be the case. 2mo
Librarybelle @StayCurious @Melissa_J I usually don‘t read short stories, as I too have some issues with plot holes and lack of connection. I‘m liking these so far, but also recognizing that I feel parts of the stories are missing or things seemed to rushed at the end. I‘m glad to be reading these with other Littens and seeing what everyone has to say! 2mo
See All 11 Comments
megnews I‘m in the middle of Holland‘s. I agree with @StayCurious that Willig‘s love story was unsatisfying. So far I like Robson‘s the best. 2mo
Librarybelle @megnews I felt out of the ones I‘ve read so far, Robson better connected the storyline together...less parts still unanswered. 2mo
Melissa_J I recommend this, which is a collection of linked stories about Pompeii 2mo
Pamwurtzler I like Robson‘s the best so far as well. Holland‘s was a different take from the wounded soldier story, but it felt really disconnected to me. 2mo
Chrissyreadit Would you consider this an accurate picture of WW1? Wondering if this would be worth having my teens read. 1mo

I enjoyed these moving stories of men and women impacted by WWI. A couple of stories were romances and others were about the impacts on families, especially mothers and sons. Most of the stories were written by "new to me" authors, so I will be adding some new books to the pile!
