#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.13-15: hmm a simple archery contest as the first test? I feel like they‘re lulling the competitors into a false sense of security. Or maybe going easy on them simply because one of them was just murdered. Something is going on. It has to do with the King‘s secrecy and with the dead hounds I‘ll bet. Perhaps there is a predator - man or beast - within Adarlan. ⬇️

StayCurious Maybe that‘s why the king feels he needs a champion in the first place. Whatever it is - things are getting more tense. 1d
BarkingMadRead This was so crazy, and I‘m hoping that C gets to hang with the princess. Seems like a long shot though. And archery?!? So lame. But I‘m dying to know what is killing the dogs 😢 1d
See All 9 Comments
mcctrish Twice the black stone ring on Cain‘s finger has been mentioned - is it magic ? Does he get strength from it ? 1d
StayCurious @mcctrish yeah I thought of a magic ring as well - it‘s unlikely to be a wedding ring haha 1d
5feet.of.fury Loved her inability to play it cool for this one, wonder how much attention she attracted with the bullseyes. What‘s killing the dogs? And what happened to the Eye Eater ? 1d
LiseWorks Oh, I would have done the same with the archery, I just couldn't help myself having done archery in high school. Lots of questions here, the ring, the murder, the princess. 1d
Roary47 I like that she made some connections in these chapters. Interesting how many of us mentioned the eye eater when he was mentioned and he ends up dead. I‘m wondering if Nox really needed help with throwing or he is just trying to lay low like she is supposed to. 23h
Butterfinger A lot happened here. Possible allies with Nox and the Princess. I just can't think she is a cold-blooded killer. Even with her imagining ways to kill Cain, would she kill him from anger or resentment? I think she shows more restraint because she shows empathy for the peasants, Pelor, and she still feels guilty for leaving her fellow prisoners behind. She is a fun character. 22h

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.10-12: how hard must it be for Celaena to do the training when she‘s been in the mines for a year!? It‘s hard to run when you‘re malnourished. But she kept up - good for her. And she remembers how to use a sword. I think the strategy they‘re using of keeping her under the radar is good - but I‘d be annoyed too if I were her. ⬇️

StayCurious They‘re just dismissing her as a nobody! I think the looks on their faces when she beats them will be priceless. She just has to stick to the game plan. 2d
mcctrish I think the plan works two ways ( Chaol is a smartie) they won‘t see her coming and she gets time to build up her strength and reassess her first impressions. I am wondering if that one dark haired competitor recognizes her 2d
5feet.of.fury Hiiiii I think I fell off the tag list, please add me back ❤️ 2d
See All 9 Comments
5feet.of.fury @mcctrish totally agree! 2d
Butterfinger I'm not being tagged either. She is feeling more comfortable with the two guys. Cain scares me a bit and Go Celaena, your body is not made for gawking or being dismissed. 2d
Laughterhp I‘m not being tagged either. Some of those guys are definitely scary! Eating eyeballs! 😬😬 2d
Roary47 @Laughterhp Right?! The eye ball eater sounds scary to me too. Whew. I think the plan is great. Sure she made a name for herself, but it can make her a target. I also thought she was doing great at the running considering she wouldn‘t have had much cardio in the mines. Great chapters today. Excited to see what happens next. 🥰 2d
LiseWorks When she was told to have breakfast before training, I thought bad idea, especially if you have to run long distance. I was very glad with her sword play. 2d

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1 Ch.7-9: it‘s great that Celaena is not only a top assassin- but an avid reader too. I love characters who are book lovers. It makes them so relatable to me. Being in the castle, there will be a lot of court intrigue - we already see a big rift between the prince and the king, and I‘m guessing - since Dorian looks nothing like his father - maybe his parentage has been questioned at some point? ⬇️

StayCurious It‘s obvious his horrible brother is the king‘s son. There‘s also strain with the Duke of Perrington which I‘m sure will cause trouble. I love games of chess like these. Here‘s hoping Celaena can keep up as a player. 3d
mcctrish I‘m always thrilled when a character is a reader too - reading about readers brings me joy! Trouble in the royal family, bring on the drama 3d
BarkingMadRead I 💯 immediately thought that Dorian was a bastard, especially after the stuff the King said. I can‘t wait for the competition to start and I love how much she loves books! 3d
See All 10 Comments
JenlovesJT47 Ooh I didn‘t realize you were starting this I got all of these yesterday 🤓 3d
Read4life Her love of books, the competition… I‘m settling in for some great chapters ahead. 3d
Butterfinger And the Prince loves to read. How cool was that? Bonding time over books. I love a little bit of humor so I was behind Calaena when she knocked the plant over the ledge. 3d
5feet.of.fury Loved Celaena and the library, don‘t know about Chaol‘s change in attitude & pep talk to Celaena 3d
LiseWorks So I know there will be romance between the prince and Celaena, or between the royal guard and Celaela. I'm starting to like both of these men, and I predicted that the prince was a black sheep of the family. 3d
Roary47 Loved her excitement over books. 🥰 Ready for her to show her rougher sides too. 2d
Laughterhp Really enjoying this book so far! I like the 3 main characters and her maid/servant. 2d

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1:Ch.4-6: we‘re learning more about the world and the destruction that Adarlan‘s king has inflicted-especially on magic wielders. It‘s mentioned that Celaena once possessed gifts but that magic disappeared from the land. We also learn a bit about the King of Assassins- her mentor who trained her. And there is someone that she suspects betrayed her and that led to her capture. Someone close to her. ⬇️

StayCurious Could it have been her mentor? What would his motive have been? Celaena just wants her freedom and to disappear- she‘s done with that world. But I think her past is going to come back to haunt her in a big way. (edited) 4d
5feet.of.fury “Magic was dead, the Fae were banished or executed, and she would never again have anything to do with the rise and fall of kingdoms. She wasn‘t fated for anything. Not anymore.” I am intrigued. We‘ll see what fate thinks of her desire for normalcy 4d

BarkingMadRead This got really interesting! Those tiny little footprints 😍 4d
Butterfinger It's awesome that magical creatures react to her presence. I want to read ahead to learn her history. I think she will become a favorite heroine - her empathy toward the other prisoners, which we learn are not just criminals but impoverished as well. 4d
LiseWorks She defended the fairies and fae and said they existed and they gave her flowers. 4d

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 1:Ch.1-3: So far I like Celaena -the fact that she still has spirit after such a harrowing year in the mine is admirable. The prince is arrogant - as he would be. He‘s used to getting what he wants and he‘s probably accustomed to his family‘s power being unconditional. I‘m not sure where the Captain of the guard stands. Is he completely loyal to his master? It‘s an interesting dynamic and an interesting start to the story

mcctrish Here we go! I read this so long ago I don‘t really remember it at all 🎉 5d

5feet.of.fury Very excited to learn more about the contest! I like Celeana so far, don‘t know what to think about the boys 5d
Butterfinger I liked Celaena. She has a mantra, "I will not be afraid." That reminds me of Feyre - I will do what needs to be done to survive. She shares Nesta's disdain toward those in power and Bryce's smart mouth. Maas is brilliant in creating her individual characters and different worlds. I can't wait to find out who her great love will be. 5d

This was a fantastic read! Richly drawn characters, a complex, edge-of-your-seat plot, and a world full of mystery and hidden magic. Celaena is more textured in this book, and I liked her more, I think. There are some real stand out side characters — Nehemiah, please — and an enjoyably dark and gritty challenge to solve. Maybe a touch slow-paced at times, and I‘m definitely glad I read the prequel first, but overall definitely a win.

annahenke I recently reread this one. Still loved it so much all these years later, honestly one of my all time fave series! 1w

#LittensLoveSJM @LitsyEvents I wanted to post this early since I‘ve seen some interest. After we finish the final instalment of #ACOTAR, I will be hosting the #TOG series by SJM. I‘d like to say that I‘ve heard great things about the series but most say it takes a couple books to really get into the world. She started writing the series as a teen so keep that in mind. Also, there are different views on how to read the series: ⬇️

StayCurious there‘s a purist way that says read in order of publication, but if you want the most emotional impact, there‘s a romantic way of reading. I‘ve chosen to go for the emotional order. I will read the prequel novellas only after the first 3 books in the series. I will read Tower of Dawn before Empire of Storms (these books happen concurrently). I‘d love for you to join me starting June 13th! 1mo

Here we go again… another Sarah J. Maas series to get hooked on.

CrowCAH I‘ll soon be reading this one with my older sister! We‘re starting the major romantasy hype books. Already we‘ve read ACOTAR and Fourth Wing. 3mo
Andarna @CrowCAH nice! I read both of those series‘ and started the Crescent City series as well. I do t so much love too much romance but do enjoy all other aspects of these books. 3mo
CrowCAH @Andarna from what I‘ve read so far, it seems more on the world building and adventure, than romance. But I‘m certainly glad the romance is added. 3mo
slategreyskies @CrowCAH I‘m curious as to which romantasy books made your TBR list. I‘m reading the second book in Fourth Wing now. Throne of Glass is on my list as well. 3mo
CrowCAH @slategreyskies I‘m listening to Iron Flame now too! ACOTAR, I listened to book one. I added A Fate Inked in Blood. Currently reading The Ever King 🏴‍☠️. 3mo

Finally, my first SJM! I liked it but I didn‘t love it as much as everyone seems to. In the first 300 pages, despite mysterious killings in the castle and death defying tests for Celaena to become the king‘s champion, there seems to be no narrative urgency. Not to mention the idiosyncrasies of mentioning our heroine causing her door hinges to squeak as protection but then being surprised by everyone stopping in unannounced for pages afterward. ⬇️

LeafingThroughLife That said, it did pick up at the end, and I was invested in Celaena‘s story and the romance, so I‘ll probably continue with the series. I think it has room to grow. I‘ll probably get to Heir of Fire - the actual title from my #auldlangspine list - later this year. Thanks to @thebacklistbook and @monalyisha for helping me start my reading year out right! 5mo
monalyisha I totally get feeling like the only person who‘s not on the SJM train! I still haven‘t read any of her books, either. Lonelier and lonelier out here. 😅 Glad this worked for you enough to consider pursuing the next book in the series. Thanks for participating! 🥳 5mo
thebacklistbook I think it matters what mindset one has while reading these. I first read them while in college and it was torture to wait for the next one to come out. Coming back to them now, I felt less invested but comfortable reading it. It picks up in future books. @LeafingThroughLife 4mo
LeafingThroughLife @monalyisha SJM will get you eventually! You can‘t hide forever! 😆 4mo
LeafingThroughLife @thebacklistbook I think I‘ll like it more now that I feel like I know what to expect. Thanks for getting me started on the series. I enjoyed reading from your list! 😀 4mo

It had my heart feeling like it was about to skip a beat at one point but it still lacked that huge emotional impact that characterizes SJM.
