Enjoyable detective story but I have questions. If you have read this please check the comments for my questions.

Slajaunie The wounds did not fit with the explanation. How did she get the other wound to her head? Also, why was it mentioned that the supervisor‘s knuckles were bruised but not explained? 4d

This was a really good story but I did not like it. I know that is contradicting but true. I could not put the book down. It was very compelling yet there were many aspects of the book that I did not like. It is definitely worth a read. It was very well written.

TheAromaofBooks I felt that way about Peter Swanson's All the Beautiful Lies. It was compulsively readable and I was desperate to see how it all came together, yet when I was done I realized that I really had not liked the actual story at all and there were several things about it that really bothered me. It's probably the sign of a good author if they can drag me all the way through something I normally wouldn't finish! 2w
MaureenMc I felt this way about City of Girls! So difficult to articulate those type of feelings. 2w

Mehso-so

This book was nowhere near as good as The Night Circus. It got bogged down in nonsense. The language and feel of the story were beautiful but I found myself having to force listening to it. I really enjoyed the beginning but from there it went downhill. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

TheAromaofBooks I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on this one, but the biggest complaint I keep seeing is that there isn't really a driving plot. I'm still on a long wait line at the library for a copy, so it will be a while before I can find out for myself... 3w
ChaoticMissAdventures I bailed. I was skipping chapters about a quarter of the way in and finally I gave up all together. I have never been less interested in a character before this, and there was zero plot to keep me going. But I think I am in the minority. 2w
Slajaunie I‘ve only seen one review that liked it on Litsy. Most reviews I read aid it was confusing and lacked a plot. I have to agree. @ChaoticMissAdventures 2w

Listening to this on audio, fabulous by the way, and I hear what is supposed to be a New Orleans accent. Why do movies, tv shows, and audiobooks depict people from New Orleans and even Louisiana in general as having a heavy southern accent and sounding like a Georgia bell? We don‘t! It irritates me to no end. Do your research!

Bookwormjillk As someone from Boston I can relate to your accent irritations 4w
Zelma Omg, yes. Cajun is not Deep South and New Orleans does not sound southern or Cajun. 4w

Great story of a woman who belongs to an exclusive group that is being hunted. She gives up her memory to protect something yet ends up looking for what she forgot. Who can she trust? The middle of the book dragged a little but otherwise a good book.

Excellent book. I could not put it down or stop listening as the case may be. It was an adult Harry Potter. I love Potter so it was right up my alley. There were some major sexual situations that may be a trigger so be aware. Bardugo said in an interview that she worried it might be too much but she felt it was necessary because of how things truly were when she attended Yale.
