Currently reading and absolutely loving it.
From the authors website ”The book delves into the grisly world of Victorian surgery and transports the reader to a period when a broken leg could result in amputation, when giving birth in a squalid hospital was extraordinarily dangerous, and when a minor injury could lead to a miserable death"

Synopsis from Penguins Random House website "A wildly imaginative novel about a man who is reincarnated over ten thousand lifetimes to be with his one true love: Death herself".
Edit: read more like a short story collection. 3 ?

One of the coolest and engrossing books I've read in awhile. This book covers so many genres from Sci Fi, fantasy, mystery, historical fiction and horror..I mean this book has something for everyone. The cover though ...gets all the stars.
Last few pages left me wanting more...however, author said this was set up as a standalone and broke my heart. 💔

Wow. I am blown away by how beautiful and atmospheric this was. I truly felt the despair and it makes you venture into the madness with this bird-seriously had left me feeling anxious multiple times throughout the book.
This is a side story to Jeff VanderMeer's story Borne. You follow The Strange Bird in this novella; however, past characters like The Magician and Wick show up as well.
I received a copy through Netgalley for an honest opinion
The writing was phenomenal-such beautiful prose. The only reason, not a 5 star for me, is something just felt off, in the way like it wasn't a flowing story-rather just little snippets of her life-and at times it made hard to connect to the main character because we would get a little glimpse into a moment, then on to another random day in sometimes less than a paragraph.
