Saga Vol. 6 | Brian K. Vaughan
post image

Today my SAGA reread brought me back to the Tickle Trunk. Which, I‘ll remind you, I MET ONCE.

Yeah. That‘s right. I stood right in front of the Tickle Trunk. I TOUCHED IT. That HAPPENED.

Everyone who was a small Canadian child in the late 80s/early 90s is all, “OMG!!!”

Everyone else is all, “The hell does that even mean?”

I hope Fiona Staples throws Ananas into the mix someday, too, to round out the Canadian Childhood References.

xicanti (Okay, I might‘ve made up the touching thing. It was a very long time ago and I don‘t remember if it was behind plexiglass or what. I was so overcome I didn‘t even take a picture of it, though I did get one of Casey and Finnegan. They definitely weren‘t touchable.) 2d
Singout Wow! I just posted the Friendly Giant intro on FB today for an American/Canadian friend who was sharing dollhouse photos and not getting the Rusty and Jerome jokes. 1d
xicanti @Singout all these shows that loom so large! The Friendly Giant stopped making new episodes before my TV years so I might‘ve had to reach for Rusty and Jerome, but I definitely would‘ve recognized the man himself. 1d

Fireside SAGA tonight!

I love first person narrators because you can‘t fully trust them, and Hazel is one of my favourites because she KNOWS that. She takes her extensive knowledge of how stories work and has a blast manipulating the reader with double meanings and foreshadowing designed to mislead. She never lies to us, but what we hear isn‘t always what she‘s said. It‘s glorious. I love it so damned much.

After a three year hiatus (in this world and theirs), Hazel, Squire, and Alana return with friends new and villains old in this collection of six issues. I love how funny this series is while eviscerating me, heart and soul. I would follow these characters to any planet, moon, planetoid, or pirate ship.

AAAAAAAAAAHHH!

You THINK you know where the story is going after you see the first page & then you turn it and nope, that‘s not where the story is going...it‘s going elsewhere & that‘s okay because of course it‘s good. And THEN…

AAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!

I…

Deep breath…

If you are a fan of Saga, buckle up. This one does not disappoint.

Great writing &, as always, stunning art from BKV & Fiona Staples. So good. Okay, stopping the fangirling now…

#NCBD!!!

It‘s all about Saga #61 today. I saw a sneak peak of the first page last week…and it made me cry. 😭 I‘ve recovered…I think…and I‘m ready to go back in. Can‘t wait to see where Vaughan & Staples take the story next…

Onward through my SAGA reread, with a ginger cookie beer to keep me company!

This is the volume where I began to suspect Vaughan & Staples were trying to kill me. (Vol 4 confirmed it. Those devious bastards.) What an awesome series. I have TOO MANY THOUGHTS for 451 characters, y‘all. I‘ll save the big one for the next volume & just gush/cry/scream here.

[insert gushy scream-crying]

reading.rainb0w Lying Cat is one of my favorites in this series 😆 1d

Penny moves her head away every time I line up a halfway decent shot with tolerable lighting, but despite her resistance to the book-posing game she‘s a stellar buddy who helped me launch my first SAGA reread since Vol 9 dropped.

You ever have that thing where you‘re worried to go back to a beloved text in case it‘s stopped resonating? That wasn‘t an issue here. At all. Nothing in this world is perfect, but I FUCKING LOVE THIS COMIC. 😭😭😭

Tea_and_Starstuff I just got Saga as a birthday gift - haven't read it yet, am excited to do so! 7d

Oh, how I missed this series! Was able to jump right back into it, like no time had passed…. And then the last couple of panels had me tearing up. How long until the next now?

Three years later …. Some things never change and some things are lost and will never ever be okay. Still a 10/10
comic experience, the art, the dialogue. 💕
