I had heart-shaped pupils pretty much throughout the whole time I've read it. Smart reenactment of the good old-fashioned Benedict/Beatrice hate-fuelled love narrative. Thorne creates characters with real vulnerabilities and is able to write intelligently structured and worded sex scenes which I greatly appreciated. Though idillyc the scenes are tasteful and true to the characters she created. will revisit this humorous sexiness of a novel.

mcipher I loved this book, too. ❤️ 2mo

Room of One's Own | Virginia Woolf
post image

???Happy International Women's Day Litsy! I wish every female writer to have, as Virginia Woolf have said a "Room of Her Own" to create worlds of her own. So I am happy to present female author who I'll be reading this year from horror to fantasy through science, romance to crime and scifi. There is no form of literature that is particularly male or female there are only good texts and bad texts. #shewhowrites makes the world a better place!

Freespirit You'll love Rebecca I'm sure😊 3mo

Sonnets from the Portuguese | Elizabeth Barrett Browning

?✒️?Elizabeth Barrett Browning knew something profound about love when she wrote "I love thee withe the passion put to use/In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith." Definitely one of my favorite lines of poetry. I am celebrating this genius' birthday with this picture. What is your favorite line from any poem?

The Man who Laughs | Victor Hugo
post image

🗼✒️💈The great master and empathizer of human suffering #victorhugo was born today in 1885. I adored#lesmiserables as a teenager (angst galore) but the #hunchbackofnotredame is also a grand masterpiece in tragedy and compassion. Keep reading Hugo. What's your favorite quote, character, story from this French realist/romantic? 😊

Mesmerisingly true to seventeen year-old's struggle with identity. Sweet and pure but nonetheless intense. If you have not cried like a baby by the end of this one you are made of stronger matter than I am.
Its a breath of fresh air that while you know that the love Ari and Dante have for each other will face many obstacle from this environment their family's support will shelter them from not taking a chance with each other.
Fall in love 💕

✒️💕One of my favorite poets Edna St. Vincent Millay was born on this day in 1892. Transcendental mind, immense heart, larger-than-life poetry. Yes, those are my #booknerd notes on the margin. I've got this volume for my 18th birthday. I did not know all of the words then (Hungarian here) but I cherished them nonetheless. #poetry #poems

It‘s commendable of Angie Thomas that she created a character who is three dimensional, with amazing strength and very human with wishes, regrets and traumas yet (or maybe because of this) she can be an inspiration for a whole generation. Even if one sees the struggles Starr's family faces the support you feel through every conversation makes you wish you see more families behaving exactly like hers when facing such insurmountable obstacles.

Reggie Totally, I loved how she pointed out the strength of the community that people never thought much of. Like the sandwich shop guy who gave sandwiches to kids who got good grades and to some kids who promised to do better. Great review!! 4mo
dalma_st_paul @Reggie 🙏 Absolutely. The whole neighborhood was presented as a loving and supportive environment only broken by the economical and sociological struggle they had to face. Plus the humor was spot on! 🤣 4mo
Reggie Lol, yeah, I loved the Harry Potter/gangs metaphor her dad was saying. 😂 4mo

dalma_st_paul ? "Daddy claims the Hogwarts houses are really gangs. They have their own colors, their own hideouts, and they are always riding for each other, like gangs. Harry, Ron, and Hermione never snitch on one another, just like gangbangers. Death Eaters even have matching tattoos and look at Voldemort. They‘re scared to say his name. Really, that “He Who Must Not Be Named” stuff is like giving him a street name. That‘s some gangbanging shit right there" 4mo

Magnificent, transcendental, gut punching. Brilliant tribute to Bushwick and Jane Austen‘s original work.

I‘ll reread and reread this book when I want to get lost in the themes of coming-of-age, self-discovery, first love, family-pride, and the love of Bushwick, or any neighborhood that starts to lose its heart.

saresmoore Great review! 4mo

This book took me the longest time to finish, but in the end it shook me to my core. You do not complete reading a book narrated by Death in a couple of days. It's a slow process with miriad of miraculous and horrific scenes revealed.

With this book you'll experience WWII with characters you'll grow to love and know from the beginning that they'll needlessly suffer because of a psychotic little man. And you'll be viciously angry.

Cinfhen Another great review and such a moving story. Have you seen the film?? It was actually really well done 4mo
dalma_st_paul @Cinfhen Thanks❤️Not yet. I wanted to read the novel first but I have great expectation as the cast looks amazing. Geoffrey Rush for Hans, Emily Watson for Rosa and Roger Allan for Death/Narrator supremely good choices. But I have reservations about the child actors Liesl and Rudy are such complex characters on the verge of adulthood it must be hard to depict without a war going on. 4mo
