Could not put it down. Correction: could not turn it off. I listened to this as an auto book and it was with me in the car, the shower, cooking and late into the night. If you were a fan of The Silent Patient, I highly recommend this one as well. #mystery #twist #ending #mysteryrecommendation #pageturner

The Drift | C. J. Tudor

My first book by CJ Tudor and certainly an author I‘ll read again. A #DystopianThriller with a clever #twist and plenty of #secrets - initially it was difficult to keep track of the LONG cast of characters (not sure it was even necessary) but once everything started falling into place it all made sense. If you enjoy locked room thrillers this one will keep you guessing. Loved the multicast narration. #NetGalley #NowAvailable

Librarybelle I have one or two books by this author that I picked up through #BOTM but have not read any yet. From the cover I would not guess this is dystopian! 13mo
Cinfhen I wasn‘t sure what this was about before I read it @Librarybelle but I think it‘s better knowing less / I saw a few people call this book horror but that‘s not how I would describe this book. 13mo

RebelReader There is a TV series called Big Sky that is based on some of his books. (Hulu). I like it, but I haven‘t read any of his books. 13mo
Cinfhen Ohhhh, I heard about Blue Sky @RebelReader I‘ll need to check it out and surprise…..CJ Tudor is a female author! I never knew before I googled the author. 13mo
RebelReader @Cinfhen Surprise! Another female author! ❤️❤️❤️ 13mo
BarbaraBB Is this the one @TrishB has been reading as well? It sounds great! Kudos for listening to it on audio, I always think that‘s so hard with so many different names and characters! 13mo
Cinfhen Yes @TrishB just read it too @BarbaraBB I think it might have been easier in print but I like to listen so my hands and body are free to do other things. Sometimes I find reading iTOO STATIONARY 🤪 I think you‘d like this book, B❣️ I was originally hoping to use for #NoricNoir but the setting is never mentioned 13mo
TrishB Yes I really enjoyed too 👍🏻 13mo

I always love me some dark academia, and although this is no ‘Secret History‘ (what is?) I still really enjoyed this NYC story. The Met Cloisters, a museum specializing in Medieval artifacts, is the perfect eerie setting, and the study at the center of this novel is of divination and historical tarot cards. Secrets are in abundance, a fish is most definitely out of water, and motives are endlessly questionable. Twisty, atmospheric and lots of fun.

LeeRHarry Good to know this is good one as I have it on my TBR- love the cover 😊 13mo

squirrelbrain I‘ve wondered about this one but thought it wasn‘t my ‘thing‘…you‘ve made me change my mind. Stacked. 13mo
KarenUK @squirrelbrain @cinfhen It‘s kind of a mash up of gothic dark academia and a mystery/thriller. I thought it was a lot of fun 😊 13mo
Cortg Sounds like a great read! 13mo
Bluebird Great review! Sounds like something I‘d like. Stacked! 13mo

I'm not generally a big thriller reader, but this was a fun way to start off my reading year.

Fun, twisty, well paced, inventive, and a satisfying ending (especially with the epilogue!)

Thanks to @Chelsea.Poole for pushing me out of my usual for this #auldlangspine pick

@monalyisha

Edit to add: is anyone else having issues with push notifications?! Can't figure out if it's the app or my phone...

Chelsea.Poole I‘m happy this worked for you. Thrillers are hit or miss for me so I was very pleased that this one had a bit more depth than some I had read recently. Also, I haven‘t noticed issues w my notifications, I‘ll keep a lookout and let you know. 1y
TheKidUpstairs @Chelsea.Poole they are very hit or miss for me. And I usually find the more hyped, the more likely they are to miss for me. So I very likely wouldn't have picked this one up if it wasn't on your list :) I was happy with how much I enjoyed this one! 1y

Went to Book People this evening for a little #bookhaul, including the tagged book for #IndependentWomen #BigBuddyRead with @Cinfhen and @BarbaraBB . I‘ll be using The Echo Wife for #Booked2023 for a book you could describe using the word “twist”, as I saw a review that called it precisely that 🙂📚.

I went to see an author speak, but unfortunately he got covid and had to cancel the last week of his tour 😞. (Travis Baldree- Legends & Lattes)

Soubhiville @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian I was excited to see your review for this, as I hadn‘t heard of it but read the first couple sentences of the blurb and it sounds fun 1y
Soubhiville And I‘ve already read the first 2 chapters of Macallister‘s book in the cafe- saw her at #TexasBookFestival and wanted to get the book there, but they had sold out 1y
Bookishlie Ooooo you‘re local! You should also try lark and owl in Georgetown and fabled in Waco! 1y

Soubhiville @Bookishlie I‘ve been to Lark and Owl, never to Waco though. My “home” bookstore is Black Pearl Books on Burnett. I‘m also a big fan of Nowhere Bookshop in San Antonio 🙂📚💕 1y
Cinfhen Fantastic purchases!!! I really enjoyed Echo Wife!!! Perfect choice for #twist and the other two books looks really good 😊 1y
BarbaraBB Such a great haul!! 1y
AmyG The Echo Wife was good…and yes, it has a twist! Also Small Game was good….a very interesting plot. Emjoy! 1y

Mehso-so

A man is killed, his widow allows her silence to be bought, and the POVs of 6 people intertwine until all is revealed. It sounds like it should be great but it was just ok. On to the next.

Audiobook win! This legal thriller meets detective novel depicts the harrowing rape of a male college student in Maine and the legal & social hurdles that follow. Then-a twist! Or 2! Just when I thought it was well written but predictable-the author upped her game. No wonder it is up for best debut novel awards! Trigger warnings: violent sexual assault, dating violence, homophobia. #mystery #4.5stars #twist #awardnominee

The story - told they several points of view and timelines - keeps you strung along wondering what really happened, how, why, and what now. A heavy topic, lightly told with mystery, suspense, romance, intrigue. It was a quick and enjoyable read.

This debut novel by Susan Walter pulls you right in and keeps you turning the pages. It's very well written and you truly like the characters. The descriptions are very well done and the execution of the story is great.
It definitely starts off with a promise. A promise to take care of everything. If you keep quiet. If you don't tell. If you can just move on and accept what happened. Holly and her daughter, Savannah, have their worlds torn apart.
