Litsy friends, it has been a long few days in the agricultural community where I live and teach as we have been dealing with a record crest of the Missouri River. So far all primary levees have held, but there has been a massive effort to sandbag the levees, and I've spent many hours helping fill sandbags. This morning I realized I had completely missed #TolkienReadingDay. This seems an appropriate quote for my late post.

#YearofTolkien

Daisey @DivineDiana @cobwebmoth @kaye @ScientistSam @JazzFeathers Thank you all so much! There is truly devastating flooding upriver from us. It also looks like river levels could stay high for a while this spring meaning that this may be an ongoing challenge. 8mo
tpixie @Daisey great work! And I hope no more levees fail! 8mo

#TolkienReadingDay #YearOfTolkien

I know it might sound odd, because reading Tolkien is demanding, it requires attention and refextion, because nothing is obvious. And it isn't escapist or consoling, because Tolkien doesn't offer answers, but rather he poses questions.
But he is my comfort reading. I always feel enriched after spending some time in Middle-Earth

I‘ve always loved the ending of The Hobbit, so I‘ll end here for today‘s #TolkienReadingDay

RadicalReader @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Absolutely amazing quote!!! Now if only other authors can end a book as well as this one does. Have you read any other works by this author? 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @RadicalReader Yes, I‘ve been reading Tolkien with a group here that started with #LOTRChapterADay. We‘ve read The Hobbit, LOTR, the Silmarillion, The Children of Hurin, Tales of the Perilous Realm, and just finished The Book of Lost Tales. 2y
tomes4gnomes Ah yes, thank you for this smile at the end of my day! 👌 2y
JazzFeathers Such a great quote. As someone has pointed out, we appreciate hobbits the more as we get older. This is certainly true for me 😃 2y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BookwormM I agree! Food and books, what good is sitting on a pile of gold, it‘s not even comfortable. 😂 2y

JazzFeathers You know? I truly love Tolkien's dragons. They are such complex, fascinating creatures. Though l think Glaurung is even more interesting than Smaug 2y
