#HungryHeart #MarchIntothe70s
Have been a little stumped on these lately, including today's. And meanwhile, I'm in an audiobook desert where I'm weeks away from my next audio hold. Listening to the last @ReadingEnvy episode solved both problems when @Bianca reminded me I've waited far too long to read a book about one of my favorite bands of all-time. And somehow it was available wait-free on Overdrive- which never happens! @Lizpixie @Cinfhen

Cinfhen Like how this post was a heavily influenced #BlameItOnLitsy collaboration😉 (edited) 7mo
Billypar @Cinfhen Totally: even before this post when a Sleater Kinney song came up on #NoFemmeber and both @Leftcoastzen and @saresmoore gave it strong recommendations. So yeah Litsy- I get it, I'm on it! 😋 7mo
Leftcoastzen Yay ! I hope you love it.She‘s multidimensional and whip smart . 7mo

ReadingEnvy Overdrive on audio I hope? I loved it so much. 7mo
Billypar @ReadingEnvy Yes- on audio (which is even more surprising that it was available now). Just an hour in and I'm already hooked! 7mo
gradcat @Cinfhen @Leftcoastzen @ReadingEnvy @Billypar Did any of you watch “Portlandia”? I loved her in that show. 7mo
Billypar @gradcat Only a couple episodes. I remember one sketch where Corin Tucker made an appearance with Colin Meloy and James Mercer as members of a band called 'Echo Echo' 😁 7mo
Leftcoastzen @gradcat I have seen a few seasons but not all of Portlandia, I love Portland!Carrie also directed episode 2 of Shrill on Hulu. 7mo
gradcat @Leftcoastzen I don‘t know about “Shrill.” I have Hulu—is it really good? 7mo
ReadingEnvy @gradcat yes! I'm from Oregon so it is a total nostalgia trip for me. And then the woman who was my high school classmate shows up in bit parts from time to time so that's fun too. Cacao! 7mo
gradcat @ReadingEnvy That is so cool! I lived on the West Coast for years and never made it up to Oregon—one of my great regrets, alas. It looks beautiful!! 7mo

There‘s a lot of #sympathy and a pursuit of justice in this #nordicnoir about a woman found dead in a lake in Sweden. She had been raped and strangled, and her identity is unknown.

This one sounds like a wild ride and I need to read it this month for #pop18

Cinfhen Hope it‘s good 10mo
Reviewsbylola It‘s doesn‘t have a good Litsy rating and my track record with Nordic noir is 0/1 so far so I have low expectations. This is my last attempt tho. 😂 @Cinfhen 10mo
Billypar I haven't read Nordic noir (unless Girl with the Dragon Tattoo counts). I have one on the shelf though- might pick it up this winter on a snowy day for the full effect ☃️ 🕵️⛷️ 10mo

Cinfhen I have a few #nordicNoir unread on my shelf which sound interesting on paper but I still haven‘t picked them up. I read a crappy #KindleUnlimited Title for my #pop18 😖 10mo
gentlepet This is the #pop18 I‘m struggling most with 10mo
Reviewsbylola Yeah I‘m thinking it‘s not the genre for me. @gentlepet 10mo

The woman in white | Wilkie COLLINS

#nofemmeber #sympathy #litsyclassics
Im only 60 pages into my 23rd in the challenge and already am sympathising with Anne Catherick the woman in white who having escaped an asylum scares walter on a moonlit Road - later with goggle eyes mooning over Laura he notices her resemblance to anne ' de de der '
Was a bit shocked by 'The lady is ugly' when he 1st meets miss Halcombe.
If i finish this chunkster i shd finish the challenge 😀

Bklover I‘ll be interested to see your review. I‘ve had this one for ages and haven‘t yet been able to make myself read it. 10mo
Tamra I loved this! 10mo
andrew61 @Bklover i was a bit daunted when i saw the size but so far it seems very readable. 10mo

DAY 30: Missy is not the type of person that wants #sympathy. She‘s much stronger than most. But the fact is 21 years ago tomorrow, she became paralyzed from the chest down after a classmate shot several students at our rural Kentucky high school. We were sophomores. Three girls died that day, 5 others injured. Tagging her first book in comments. 👇🏻

britt_brooke Missy also penned a memoir about that day and the time after. It‘s a very good, but very, very tough read. 11mo
britt_brooke @Cinfhen and @Billypar Thank you for the fun and challenging prompts! I enjoyed it. 💚 11mo
Bibliogeekery I'm so sorry you went through that! 10mo

Billypar So sorry you were part of such a traumatic event. Even after hearing about each one, I can't even imagine what its like to witness. Your classmate sounds very brave to write books like these after all she suffered in the aftermath. Thanks for sharing this 💙 10mo
Cinfhen 21 years ago and it‘s still so shocking and raw. I really want to read your classmate‘s books. What a strong and beautiful spirit she must be. As always, sending love your way 💚 10mo
Cinfhen And thanks for joining ALL MONTH!!!! I really loved seeing your posts xx 10mo
britt_brooke @Billypar Thank you for the kind words. ❤️❤️❤️ 10mo
britt_brooke @Cinfhen Thanks for the love! ❤️❤️❤️ It‘s surprising how raw it is still is some days. It hangs in the back of my mind more often than I‘d like to admit. The anniversary is always difficult. It was a small school. We all knew everyone. Missy is truly inspiring. She‘s a social worker and public speaker now. I know she‘s helped a lot of people. ❤️ 10mo
britt_brooke @Cinfhen I think this is the first challenge where I didn‘t miss a day! 😆🙌🏻 10mo
Reviewsbylola ❤️❤️❤️ I imagine being a mother now doesn‘t make it any easier. It‘s a scary world we live in. I am stacking the book tagged above to start with. 10mo
britt_brooke @Reviewsbylola It‘s definitely different now that I‘m a mom. It both hurts and comforts my heart that my son goes through lock down drills at school; the classroom doors stay locked from the outside and there‘s full time police officer on school grounds. Yet ... none of that would‘ve prevented what happened at my school. That‘s the scariest part. No clear answers. Thanks for stacking Missy‘s book. 💚💚💚 10mo

This book taught me so much about women who are suffering and fighting for acceptance in many parts of the world. I felt a tremendous amount of #sympathy for these women, and I was so happy that the book detailed methods to help. #nofemmeber #nonfiction

Thank you dear fellow #phillycrew members for hosting!

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego This is an outstanding book 💙 11mo
DivineDiana @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I couldn‘t agree more! 11mo
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I liked that they give you realistic ways to help at the end. Usually after reading these types of books, you feel hopeless. Not this one. I've done the Kiva loans, it's an inexpensive way to help, and you can relend over and over. 11mo

DivineDiana @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Exactly! Rather than feeling depressed, I felt hopeful. ❤️ 11mo
Velvetfur This book sounds fantastic - stacked! 10mo
DivineDiana @Velvetfur You won‘t be disappointed! 10mo
Billypar Great choice! Thanks for playing this month- yeah #phillycrew pride! 😃 10mo

These books provoked #sympathy and anger in equal measures. And are unforgettable. There are women making unbearable decisions behind all- I think of the mothers... and grandmothers. FYI one of my all time favorite songs is I Am Woman - Helen Reddy. #nofemmeber

Chrissyreadit @Cinfhen yes! One of my all time favorites. 11mo
Billypar I haven't read these but I can definitely see them inducing sympathy and anger. The memoir I'm reading starts by chronicling the life of the author's grandmother who was married at age 8 to a priest in his thirties. Sad beyond words 💔 10mo
Cinfhen Stacking that book @Billypar WOW 😮 10mo
Chrissyreadit @Billypar @Cinfhen adding The Wife‘s Tale to my TBR as well! (edited) 10mo

For the young ballerinas depicted in Degas‘ works, real life is anything but colorful and happy. This historical fiction looks at Marie van Goethem, who modeled for Degas. I felt much #sympathy for her and her sisters, as they struggled to get out of poverty. #NoFemmeber

By the way, the author is amazing! She Skyped with my historical fiction group, a truly wonderful experience.

Thanks @Cinfhen and @Billypar for a fun month!

Billypar Love Degas- the model of a famous artist is a neat idea for a protagonist. It's really cool that she Skyped with your group- what a great opportunity! Thanks for playing this month! ☺️ 10mo

I didn‘t think it was possible to feel #sympathy with the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. But then I read this retelling changed my mind about her, and made her more relatable 👏

Thanks for a great month @Billypar and @Cinfhen 👌 #NoFemmeber

Billypar Fairy tale twists are interesting- it's like they overlay something more like real life on top of the fantasy and it challenges a lot of assumptions you have going in. Thanks for playing this month! 😃 10mo
Kalalalatja @Billypar exactly, especially when it is the villain‘s story being retold 😄 thanks for great prompts! 10mo

I've read the book. I've seen the film.

I have no #sympathy for Briony. Not a tiny bit.

#NoFemmeber @Billypar @Cinfhen

PS: just had the DVD at hand

KarenUK Love this book and movie so much.... 11mo
zezeki I've watched the film a few times and I absolutely love it! Still have to read the book though. 11mo
Literary_Siren I bawl my eyes out reading/watching this! 😩 I also have no sympathy for Briony. I still want to punch her lights out. 11mo
Billypar Argh- this book was so good! I both do and don't have sympathy for her. I guess I couldn't help but think how she must have felt looking back on it. Such an emotionally exhausting book! 10mo

Day 30 - #sympathy #nofemmeber

I do remember The Rolling Stones!

Cinfhen They are unforgettable 🙌🏻❤️💋 11mo
Billypar When I was thinking of my post for this prompt this kept playing in my head, alternating with the Sweater Kinney song- a great one! Thanks for playing along this month! ☺️ 10mo
