It‘s a new month and time for #BookishMonopoly!
I rolled a 9 and landed on “Fave Author.” My all-time favorite is Anne Tyler and I‘ve read all her books—except this one. It‘s a children‘s books she published in 2005 with illustrations by her daughter, Mitra Modarressi.
Thanks again for hosting this cool challenge

Repost for @TheAromaofBooks

Well friends, there is only a week left of March! What even! I'm not going to lie, I've been way more into playing Stardew Valley this week than reading, so maybe a new list is what I need to spice things back up 😂 If you're interested in spinning along for April, it's time to think about your lists. Looking forward to seeing what everyone is hoping to read!!

TheAromaofBooks Thank you for the repost!! 1mo

dabbe @mcctrish OMG! #perfecttiein 😂😂😂 4mo
dabbe This elder-follower relationship reminds me of selling your soul to the 👹, not the other way around. Who would ever do such a thing? 😱 4mo
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish 🤣🤣🤣 4mo
SamAnne Just caught up! Been loving the commentary. My favorite line in this chapter is “Faith does not, in the realist, spring from the miracle but the miracle from faith.” And then a lot of blah blah blah. 😂 4mo
BarkingMadRead @SamAnne so much blah blah blah, with just a little of interest in between 🤣 4mo
Bookwormjillk Day 5 and you already had to break out the blah blah blah 🤣 4mo
currentlyreadinginCO @SamAnne that was my highlight this chapter ☺️ 4mo
currentlyreadinginCO ok so whew lots of family history and dead women to explain how we got to this meeting with the elder guy in his cell, I'm sure this will go well! 4mo
Tineke Fyodor trying to stir up trouble at every turn #rascal. 4mo
IndoorDame It sort of sounds like an Elder is a westernized (is Russia western at this point in time?) take on a Guru that has inevitably devolved, lost some of the initial meaning and nuance, and then run a bit dark… am I reading this right? 4mo
BarkingMadRead @IndoorDame oh that‘s a perfect explanation! 💯 @Bookwormjillk I can‘t decide if that‘s a good sign or a bad sign for us 🤣 4mo
willaful @Bookwormjillk I'm thinking bad. I'm having a lot of trouble starting the next chapter. 😵‍💫 4mo
rubyslippersreads @IndoorDame Sounds like Rasputin (he ran really dark 😳). 4mo

This is exactly what the cover says it is: stories about growing up. With 5 brothers, there are plenty of shenanigans to share, but it doesn't make for a very memorable book. Humorous, nostalgic, but not very substantial.

“My granny made me this suit so I could look nice for God.“

This would be an amazing book to have in a classroom library that shows students' perspectives of young men of color by depicting thirteen views of everyday life.

Pickpick

Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Black Boy is written by Tony Medina and includes thirteen different artists. The element of poetry that stood out to me in these poems was the sense of imagery. All of the artists illustrated bold, colorful pictures that depict the issues being faced in these poems.

“Black boys play with building blocks, are fascinated by clocks“

This book uses rhythm and alliteration. Alliteration is the repetition of identical initial consonant sounds in successive or closely associated syllables within a group of words.
