Set in 1918 during the influenza outbreak, this novel follows Lutie and her sister Helen as they navigate a changing world, filled with war, murder, heartbreak, and child trauma. There are so many dark layers to this novel, so definitely not a light read. Lutie‘s naivety was at times very distracting to me, and as I listened (the narration is great!), I would roll my eyes.

I really wanted to love this one. I had never heard of Elizabeth Blackwell (the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States), so I thought I would be so interested in this book. I just found it hard to keep picking it up. The Information was good, but something was missing #aboutsisters #booked2022

It‘s been a while since I picked up a Walt Longmire book, but I enjoyed book 7 so much that I read the short story between and book 8 this week.
Kira-Kira is for #Booked2022 #aboutsisters and I enjoyed it.
Calvin, I Eat Poop, and The Library Fish are children‘s books and all are picks. Calvin made me tear up a little, but I Eat Poop was my favorite.

A little draggy in parts but overall a pleasant read.
I loved joining the author on this book of the overlooked Bennet sister.
Read for #pemberlittens but also considering this for #aboutsisters for #booked2022

A few years ago on Indie Bookstore Day, I chose this ARC as my gift for making a purchase. Finally pulled it off the shelf for #booked2022 #aboutsisters When Rose and Ivy‘s father dies, the sisters travel from Albany to NYC to search for their mysterious brother. A Speakeasy, bobbed hair, anarchists and flappers. Love a NYC setting. Quick easy read. A few tears. If you love the Roaring 20‘s, this one‘s for you.

As usual Elizabeth Acevedo has written something that matters. This novel in verse is inspired by the AA587 plant crash on Nov. 12 2001 which was the second deadliest plant crash in US history, but since it wasn‘t caused by terrorism and almost exclusively affected the NY Dominican community, was all too easily forgotten. It explores the idea of relative privilege when everyone around you is suffering to some significant degree.

I am all about the family dramas this month!

The three Sweeney sisters‘ famous author father has died. He was keeping hidden from them his knowledge of a fourth sister born from an affair AND a tell-all memoir he wanted posthumously published. Of course, there is drama and a bit of romance in each sisters lives separately while trying to get along in extenuating circumstances after being spread out for years. A definite lighter fare pick!
