The 3rd short story I‘ve read from the faraway collection. Two detectives investigate the murder of 5 girls nicknamed “the princesses” at a high school.
I found the style of writing difficult to read and nearly bailed a few times.#fairytales #faraway #shortstories #amazonoriginals

It wasnt quite as good as The Prince and the Troll but I might be biased for anything by Rainbow Rowell. I woshed I had more of a warning about the sex trafficking going on though.

Well I didnt know this book was only like 30 pages. I really enjoyed it. There were really only two characters and one setting. I cant wait to finish the other 4 in the series.

This is a fabulous introduction to the Shetland Island series featuring DI Jimmy Perez in the remote archipelago of Scotland, where the community is close, and deep in their culture. What stand out are the fantastic setting, and characterisation, especially of DI Perez. The slow pace may not be for everyone, but it‘s very atmospheric, and I find it compelling.

In this memoir, Eleanor goes on holiday to Goa, with her Nan and two Great Aunts, trying to find herself. The blurb on the front * is rather hyperbolic and, in fact, the book would have done better to concentrate on the ladies‘ early years in India, which were far more interesting.
Still, the book was enjoyable, if a little light on substance.

This was a really fun book. I love it when Audible gets a full cast together for one of their Originals. In this one Tinker Bell was exceptionally entertaining when she kept calling Peter a stupid ass and Captain Hook was fantastic. There are some definite changes from the original (which is up next on my tbr) but still a great story 🐊

I seem to be in the thick of the mediocre books, written after the death of Christie‘s first husband. Better than The Big Four, but that‘s not saying much.

I will give her credit, I was convinced I knew all the twists, and I was completely wrong on all accounts. 🤣

It was fun to see the Miss Marple‘s village, St Mary Mead, mentioned for the first time.

Scochrane26 I haven‘t read that many of hers yet, but I definitely like some better than others. 4y
alisiakae @Scochrane26 Since I'm reading them in publication order, I'm definitely learning that some of her earlier books were....rough. I'm almost up to the first Miss Marple, who has always been my favorite! 4y
Scochrane26 @4thhouseontheleft I‘ve read them in series order mostly, but I‘m not very far along. So far, I like Miss Marple the best. I‘m thinking I should read one a month or I‘ll never read them all. 4y

alisiakae @Scochrane26 I forgot to mention in this review (so just went back and added it), that Miss Marple‘s village is mentioned for the first time in this book. So that was fun! 4y
BiblioLitten I almost picked it up a few years back when I was travelling in a blue coloured train😄 4y
Weaponxgirl I have never read any Agatha Christie shockingly enough but I am watching poirot as we speak 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Nice — sorry for the mediocre streak. Hopefully you‘re out of it by now! 4y

The story of an astronaut who returns from a mission (exploring planet outside of Earth‘s solar systems) without other members and with the large holes in her memory is interesting genre mushup between sci-fi and mystery/thriller. The story does not require an active reader, but with enough suspense and interesting psychological elements, this story was for me the right book at the right time. Not great, but simply readable.

Cinfhen Fun!!! 4y

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind | William Kamkwamba, Bryan Mealer

Pickpick

This memoir was about so much more than just a disadvantaged Malawian boy creating a windmill for electricity. At its core is a tale of ingenuity in the face of adversity, coupled with the power of friends, family, and strangers who believe in you and your potential. 4⭐️s! Other topics tackled included: scarcity, famine, effects of hunger on the brain, predatory price-gouging during famine, school fees and the cycle of poverty,👇🏽

KT1432 “Magic” and superstition used as a scapegoat for HIV/AIDS and famine, deforestation aiding in flooding and drought, farm livelihood dependent upon weather and fertilizer, and government corruption. It packed in a LOT and I admit some of the technical parts went over my head. But overall, an inspirational story I‘m glad to have read! Thanks @RachelO! (edited) 4y

rockpools Your prompts!! Brilliant! 🤣😂🤣 So glad you enjoyed it - he really did pack a lot in there. It shouldn‘t have, but the school fees thing really shocked me - it had just never occurred to me that the family would need to pay for his education in those circumstances. 4y
KT1432 @RachelO yes! I know here in the States we really take free primary/secondary education for granted. The school fees situation creating this cycle of poverty despite his obvious talent and ability to learn was heartbreaking. But it had a happy ending! 😊 4y
