Good morning and Happy Birthday to the Professor! I‘m so looking forward to enjoying another reread of one of my favorite books with a wonderful group of Litsy readers! I just enjoyed reading the prologue all about hobbits with breakfast.

Deifio The hobbits are big on breakfast too! And lunch, and tea, and dinner...😄 I'm almost done with the Fellowship 2w
Daisey @Deifio So true! If you‘ve just been reading it, I hope you‘ll join in on our informal posts and discussion. 2w

Monday morning breakfast and a book! The more of Tolkien‘s work I‘ve read, the more I am fascinated by the dwarves. I think that Tolkien changed his own perception of the dwarves of Middle-Earth as he worked on The Hobbit. In previous reads, I was mostly frustrated with Thorin at this point in the story, but in rereading, I better appreciate the history and depth of his character.

Sunday books and breakfast included homemade pumpkin spice French toast sticks this morning. I‘m starting Night 68 and enjoying Part 2 of the Notion Club Papers much more than Part 1. Even when it gets a bit more dense, the connection to Middle-Earth keeps me more engaged.

CoffeeNBooks Pumpkin spice French toast sticks sounds amazing! How do you make them? 2mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Good luck with the catching up, and yes, I agree...part 2 was a bit better for me too. 2mo
Daisey @CoffeeNBooks They were delicious! They‘re pretty similar to regular French toast except that they‘re seasoned with cinnamon and pumpkin spice (nutmeg, cloves, ginger, etc.) instead of vanilla and include pumpkin purée. I followed this recipe for the most part. https://lifemadesimplebakes.com/pumpkin-french-toast-sticks 2mo

This was the perfect way to start a Saturday. However, by the time I made & ate breakfast, then read the chapter, I had no time to make a post, so I‘m sharing several hours later. This chapter was fantastic! The first draft included is short without a lot of detail, but what a possibility to consider. Without spoilers, all I can say is Eowyn is seriously strong and amazing!

Emilymdxn Amazing pic! Agreed that‘s a great way to spend a Saturday 4mo
Daisey @Emilymdxn Thank you! 4mo
JazzFeathers I'm so seriously behind 😭 But l can't wait to read more of Eowyn's developement. 4mo

It‘s time again for Sunday morning #BreakfastwithTolkien again and I‘m so glad. I‘m really looking forward to delving into this next book about the writing of Lord of the Rings with a great group of readers. I‘ll admit the explanation of bringing together conflicting chronologies is not my favorite, but the upcoming development of the battle at Helm‘s Deep sounds fascinating.

JazzFeathers While l was reading, l keep wondering, how on earth did Tolkien entangled himself in it? Can't wait to read on! 5mo
wordslinger42 I agree, those chapters can be hard to get through! I also have a hard time getting through the map chapters 😂 5mo

The Treason of Isengard | John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, Christopher Tolkien
post image

I started this chapter yesterday with breakfast and finished it this morning. When I first read Tolkien, I skimmed over the poetry, but I enjoy it more and more as I keep reading and rereading. The evolution of this poem was fascinating. I especially appreciated seeing the tiny section about Earendel‘s battle with Ungoliant, a story I‘ve often hoped to see in more detail.

#YearofTolkien #LotRHistory #BreakfastwithTolkien

JazzFeathers Same here. I never imagined to enjoy Tolkien‘s poetry so much, but now l really like reading it. Ungoliant is an awesome character. On a FB Tolkien group we discussed her nature, once. Whether she is really as indipendent as she claims, whether she is an addict (to light) and whether she might be a maya herself. 7mo
Daisey @JazzFeathers Sounds like an interesting discussion. I know there is so much of his writing and world building available, but he created so many amazing characters that I always want more. 7mo

I finished the first chapter yesterday and the second this morning. I am continuously fascinated by Tolkien‘s own uncertainty about the character of Trotter and his slow development into Aragorn. I‘ll also admit sometimes I get completely lost in all the hobbit names and developments, but I love the dedication of Christopher for sharing these little details with the readers who are interested.

JazzFeathers I totally agree with you. He couldn't have been more dedicated if it had been his own writing. 7mo

Good morning! There‘s a little rain this morning, so it‘s another perfect Saturday to start with books and breakfast. I have a chapter of Elective Affinities for a #readalong with @jewright (I finally convinced her to join Litsy!) and probably a few pages of my current Tolkien book as well. I just made it to “The Attack on Weathertop” chapter.

I got a behind while finishing up The Tale of Genji, but this morning it‘s time again for Tolkien. I went by the library last night to pick up The Art of The Hobbit. It seems a perfect book to pair with reading the fifth phase in History of The Hobbit. I‘m starting New Chapter II and really enjoying the longer revisions. The short chunks can be a bit harder to place but are still interesting.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa That looks gorgeous! Have fun! 11mo
Daisey @Riveted_Reader_Melissa From flipping though, I think I‘ve seen most of the art, but I‘m definitely looking forward to it! 11mo
DivineDiana I love the Art Book! 11mo
JazzFeathers I've been eyeiong both Art of the Hobbit and Art of The Lord of the Rings. Is it a good book? Should l buy it? 11mo
Daisey @JazzFeathers I‘ll probably share a few pages and let you know what I think as I go! So far it looks like one I will want to add to my personal library at some point. 11mo
