Just finished this classic .. it was kind of a slow read. No exciting events not really anything special I personally think it‘s overrated , however it taught me new perspectives in life and it was interesting to live in the point of view of a child (scout) and see how innocent and simple children‘s thoughts really are .. #classic #literature #tokillamockingbird #whitegurl #starbucks #3stars

Didn‘t enjoy this one as much as I expected. The story and the settings are unique & interesting. However, the main character and her narrative voice (too mature & sophisticated for a poor uneducated 9-year old) made it very difficult for me to engage with the book. My decision to listen to the audiobook was a mistake as I really hated the narrator and her circus of accents.

Honestly, I only liked the beginning and the ending. The middle part of the book felt very slow and I had a very hard time connecting with the characters. I do want to see where book two will take the plot.

I loved the concept of a mommy group and seeing the main characters go through the adjustment period of adding a baby into the family. However, when it came to the thriller part, it fell flat and the plot twist didn‘t wow me. But, I did love Colette, Francie, and Nell.

echalpan I agree. I gave this one a 3.5 at the time (and I was likely influenced by the Kerry Washington hype). Now that I reflect back on it, it was super underwhelming. 6mo
allthingskayla @echalpan After I finished I was thinking that the movie may be underwhelming. I hope they add more suspense for the movie. 6mo
JamieArc I agree too. This was one of my least favorite of the genre this past year. Pretty “meh” for me. 6mo

My last book of 2018! I literally finished this at 11:57 PM. 😬 Anyway, my rating is 3/5 stars. I loved how this was a female retelling of Beowulf. However, I felt like the characters were not developed and the pacing in some areas were slow. Also, the action scene in the end fell flat for me. There were redeeming scenes, but I think this book is so-so.

As soon as I finished Alice I couldn‘t wait to jump in to the sequel. I was a bit disappointed with this one. It isn‘t as dark or addictive as the first book and I found myself getting a bit bored. Is much more character-driven than the first. As a reader who loved plot-driven books I got a bit bored but I did enjoy seeing what happened to Alice and Hatcher. #Retelling #Adult #Horror #3Stars

I was a bit disappointed in this one to be honest! I had heard such amazing things and although it was enjoyable I found it just like any other book. It wasn‘t anything special. I also hated the fanfic bits and didn‘t read most of them. I didn‘t feel like they added anything to the story. #3Stars #YA #Contemporary

Kaylamburson I agree. I just finished it and wasn‘t blown away. I listened to it on audio and found myself tuning out during the fanfic bits. 1y
Kayleigh12 @Kaylamburson so glad to hear you had the same sort of thoughts. So many people adore it I thought I was the only one who didn‘t love the fanfic bits lol 1y
Kaylamburson Yes, I was scrolling through the book page here and not many people agree. I also didn‘t think the ending was that strong. And Cath started annoying me when she refused to do her assignment. 1y
Kayleigh12 Yes! Definitely. At the end I turned the page ready for another chapter and I was like what? Really? That‘s it? It was cute and enjoyable but so far from as amazing as I was expecting. 1y
Kaylamburson Completely agree! So much was left unsolved. 1y

BookwormAHN That's a rather overrated one. I read a lot of thrillers and I didn't like that one either. 2y

readinginthedark Oh, does it take place after American Gods? I didn't realize they were connected either! 2y
ItsAngel @readinginthedark yes! I'm told it doesn't matter though. 😊 2y
