Princess Eadlyn is a self-centered, entitled brat. Or, as Hermione would put it, she has the emotional range of a teaspoon. When told she would have to take part in a selection to appease her nation, she fights her parents practically every step of the way. The most enjoyable scenes in this book were those of her interacting with her parents, my favorite characters from the last book, or when she finally shows a bit more character... ⬇

vkois88 but that cliff hanger ending? Idk if I can wait 2 weeks to get the last book. I'll have to console myself with all the novellas in the meantime! 3.5/4🌟 Purely based on my disdain for the Princess throughout the first 2/3 of the book! 3mo
LA_Mead I‘m with you on that one...I just didn‘t like this new character that much 3mo
vkois88 @LA_Mead it's so disappointing since I loved the others so much... and especially bc it's hard to picture such a brat coming from those two people! 3mo

8/10 Book 4 of 5, well written but not as good as the first three in my opinion. Possibly due to the perspective shift, it feels harder to like the characters and their interests/interactions. Still, it's worth reading, would be good for a summer beach read.

Of course I had to keep going. This set of characters took a little more time to connect with, but I fell in love with them just the same. 1 more to go.

I‘ve just fallen in love with this series. Despite knowing how things would end with America and Prince Maxon from the get go, Kiera Cass kept my attention to see things through to the end just so I could... well yes... *sigh... starting this book, I wasn‘t sure I would be invested in Princess Eadlyn, but I will say I loved her... watching her realize her faults and short comings was fabulous. Can‘t wait to start The Crown

“35 suitors. 1 princess. A new selection has begun”

I found this book in the series to be so-so. This book takes place twenty years after the last book took place. Now it is America‘s and Macon‘s daughter, Eadlyn‘s turn to go through the Selection. I found Eadlyn to be bratty, but did like her at times independent nature. Let‘s see how the series ends.

Now that I've finished Hate List, I'm trying to get through The Heir, too, because I am thrilled to delve into a 4th book with my beloved characters of America, Maxton, Aspen, Lucy...the whole gang, I love them all! This one is great so far...not that I'm surprised, this entire Selection series has been amazing all the way through! #TheHeir #KeiraCass #SaturdayReads #Read #Love

I can't remember the last time I have loved a series as much as this one! I loved getting to know Eadlyn and seeing her start the whole selection process and trying to find true love like her parents have even thou she doesn't want too. I can't believe I only have one more book left. I don't want the series to end!

crazyspine I have read this series; my students are obsessed. 10mo
RenePenn I also only have the last book left and have enjoyed the series. I am listening to The Queen which is the first companion novella to the series. The audio version of this one is hard to listen to - I think I‘d rather read it. 10mo

I loved the Selection. I listened to the series years ago. I came across The Heir and thought I‘d give it a try. It‘s a decent listen. I just didn‘t like it as much as the story that came before it. I find Eadlyn a lot less likable as an MC than her mother (America) was. It does give her a LOT of room for growth. The ending was a cliffhanger. I decided to pick up book 2 to see where the story goes next.

The Heir is an action, comedy, and romanced based book. The princess, Eadly has to go through a selection just like her dad (the king). She doesn't want to go through the selection, she wants to go on as queen alone without someone to help. It is a great book so far it is a slow read though.

What was your June's favorite?
Mine definitely was The Heir by Kiera Cass!
Eadlyn is such a drama queen and a badass at the same time. I love her. Way more than her mom!

Linear I javent read the spin offs but i read the originals. I hear most people dont like the second set as much and i havent brought myself to try them. 1y
jessthebookslover @Linear yes, that's correct. Many tend to dislike this second set a lot more, but since I couldn't stand America, I loved this one (THE HEIR) much better than the first set. And I wanted to underline THE HEIR cause I'm gonna re write The Crown in my next project 😂🙈 I gave it a 3/5⭐ on Goodreads only for Eadlyn and someone else that I'm not gonna mention. 1y

Just finished the Heir and realized I‘m probably going to have to read The Crown to find out who wins The Selection. Fiddlesticks ! The library booksale did not have it I‘ll check next weekend‘s Raise-A-Reader booksale. Twenty years have passed and Eadlyn is forced to invite eligible bachelors to audition for the role of consort, another Selection. 👍👍 A fun read but it ends with a cliffhanger, grrr.

I'll admit, I really do /love/ to hate this series. One dimensional characters, bad descriptors (I always struggle to visualise what the author is trying to portray, except for the food. She's pretty excellent at describing food.) and random/terrible plot devices are left, right, and center up in this biznitch! 🙄

This book had the same pull on me that the first and proceeding books of this series. I loved this book with every fiber of my being. It was so elegantly written. I liked princess Eadlyn and her twin brother Ahren. I also loved that the author fast forwarded twenty years later and started the Selection with Mason and America‘s children. I have grown such a deep love for these characters that having the book continue with their family was perfect.

⭐️⭐️

I was wondering if I was going to side with the people saying three books was enough or not. I definitely think that it should have ended with “Happily Ever After”. Eady was so unlikeable compared to her mother, and just so manipulative and entitled. I really had to push myself to finish this one - it wasn‘t as addictive or fast-paced as the earlier books. The cliffhanger was very obvious, and completely destroyed the road so far.

InsomniacGhuleh @stephfafahh I KNOW. Me too. It feels like it's an eternity away. He's just perfection. Seriously. When I was reading the TOG series I fell for him hard. Sarah J. Maas has singlehandedly created like half of my book boyfriends. It's really unfair because she must have some amazing men in her life. Hahaha. 😂 2y
stephfafahh @InsomniacGhuleh I think I read something where she said that she pulls aspects of her husband for Rowan/ Rhysand. And I love her messages to Josh in the acknowledgements. 2y
InsomniacGhuleh @stephfafahh Then she's a very lucky lady. And I think you're right. I vaguely remember reading that somewhere. Oh me too! Her acknowledgements are some of my favorites that I've read. They're sweet, super lively and full of personality. I bet she'd be amazing to hang out with. 2y

I don‘t like Eadlyn as much as I liked America. But I realize the reasons are much the same as I felt about Maxon when reading The Selection the first time.

Plus, it‘s really hard to compete with a character everyone fell in love with over three books.
There‘s one more book, and I already have it in my possession. I imagine it will be a quick read, like the others.
