Here We Are: Feminism for the Real World
Here We Are: Feminism for the Real World | Kelly Jensen

Let s get the feminist party started! "Here We Are "is a scrapbook-style teen guide to understanding what it really means to be a feminist. It s packed with essays, lists, poems, comics, and illustrations from a diverse range of voices, including TV, film, and pop-culture celebrities and public figures such as ballet dancer Michaela DePrince and her sister Mia, politician Wendy Davis, as well as popular YA authors like Nova Ren Suma, Malinda Lo, Brandy Colbert, Courtney Summers, and many more. All together, the book features more than forty-four pieces and illustrations. "Here We Are" is a response to lively discussions about the true meaning of feminism on social media and across popular culture and is an invitation to one of the most important, life-changing, and exciting parties around."

I‘m so sorry I haven‘t posted for a while, or finished the book, lives been a bit busy and hot! Australia‘s summer time is the worst I swear! But I will be trying to finish that book as soon as I can! :) and I‘ll let you guys know if I enjoyed it. And for now, here‘s a flower I took a picture of a while ago! Pretty.

I loved this book! Each of the stories was intriguing and taught me at least one lesson. The diversity of voices is amazing. There was no part or story that was boring or unnecessary. The anthology shows that anyone can be a feminist and the strength that collective feminism can hold.

Been slowly reading this over the past half-hour-ish. It‘s an ARC copy with lotssss of typos, and it‘s always funny to see the in progress bits (one color instead of two color, 000 instead of pages numbers). Really liked the introduction by Malinda Lo! #24in48 #OWLsJuly2019

Great introduction to/confirmation of feminism and the crucial role it plays in our country, our community, our lives. A wonderful collection of intersectional voices, this book talks the talk while walking the walk. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #readharderchallenge #2018 #MountTBR

I love this. I will recommend it for the foreseeable future. This is one of the most inclusive feminist intros I have read. I also have a pretty incredible reading list to look forward to based on the recommendations within and on enjoying some of the writers from it who have published their own books.

I really loved this collection and wish it had been there for me when I was a teenager who was "not a feminist because I believed in equality". Deep shame, I know. Because this book is an intersectional look at feminism it serves as a fantastic introduction to the many forms this idea of equality takes. There is faith based feminism, trans feminism, mental health awareness feminism...feminism presented in its many forms.

Fantastic read. Geared toward teens, but not so much that an adult can't enjoy it. Us adult nerd women want to know how to be a superheroine too. The essays made great valid points that give a lot of food for thought. I would recommend this to a young woman/girl to give them a look at a world where you do t have to follow what society says a female has to be. I would also recommend it to someone that is just starting to explore feminism.

"Marginalized women don't need other people to speak for them. They need the mic to speak for themselves. If you don't see someone that looks like you in mainstream feminism, you can - and should - absolutely speak up for yourself or encourage others to speak up. Find your own feminism."
