pickThis was delightful. It has some of the best touches from (the inevitable comparisons w/) Harry, Wrinkle in Time, Narnia, & Alice: friends, magic, & slightly mad mentors. But manages to stand on its own. The story & heroine have just the right tone for the shade of dark the kids in my life (& who am I kidding, I myself) really love. The character I really loved? Fenestra! When Fenestra, Cheshire, & Crookshanks have poker night, my money‘s on Fen!
so-soI enjoyed the setting the most. Post WWI Bombay is a fascinating part of history we learn so little about in the US (are we surprised?) I very much enjoyed the main character‘s father. I can‘t say I completely enjoyed the book but I will read the next one. One thing I did appreciate, the author doesn‘t explain everything that won‘t be familiar to the average American. She uses words & phrases from religion & culture & trusts the reader to keep up.
pickThis is the 2nd in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed it. As I said for the 1st in the series, it would be a great beach read. I actually read it on the metro & I'm sure the people next to me thought I was insane because i kept giggling. I'm absolutely looking forward to the 3rd in the series. 👍
pickI thought this was charming. Its fun & clever & witty. The audio book is good, too. I found myself looking up various historical novels as reference points for some of the characters. That was nice; Ms. Shaw could have gone the easy route & used Dracula. It would be a perfect beach read, if you're near a beach. It's the 1st in a series, the 2nd is already out, & the 3rd is being released in October. I already have it reserved at my library.😎

I‘ve decided to add my grad school course books, because really if I didn‘t want to do this I wouldn‘t be reading them. So that means I want to read them, so they should be added. In other news: Go Blue Jays! #JHU
