Adult Assembly Required | Abbi Waxman
"A young woman moves to Los Angeles to escape her life and discovers she doesn't have to leave all of herself behind to make a fresh start, from USA Today bestselling author Abbi Waxman. When Laura Costello moves to Los Angeles, hoping to finally get away from her overprotective family, she doesn't expect to be homeless after a week. (She's almost certain she didn't start that fire . . . right?) When she's rescued by a charming but eccentric bookseller and installed in a slightly chaotic and entirely illegal boardinghouse, she isn't sure if she's fallen on her feet or just out of the frying pan. A handsome housemate, a landlady with regrets, and the unwelcome attention of an old flame conspire to make Laura's life far more complicated than she hoped. However, a set of new friends who widen her experience-and knowledge of trivia-will do their very best to help this transplant put down roots and learn what it really means to be an adult"--

We re-enter the world of Nina Hill but from a different perspective. Laura, decides to make a change in her life and moves across the country to attend grad school. The friends she makes helps her to find herself while recovering from a trauma. It‘s much more lighthearted than I‘m making it sound, but also delves into the seriousness of life and the problems we all deal with. Quite enjoyed this world and was happy to go back. #sundaybuddyread

I like the people all living together
The book is a bit over the top messy for me and the drawing out Bob & Laura 🙄

Sargar114 It fits for this world. I‘m enjoying it. I think the reason schedule (not blaming - is what it is) may be why it feels more drawn out. This book could very easily be read in a day and maybe have a different perspective. 5d
Karisa Yup, it‘s a fluffy, warm read but fits for me right now. I love seeing how they all took her in. Then when they did the same to Nick, I wanted to shout at them STOP! 5d
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 ha. Could be. Good thing we‘re having fun 🤣🤣🤣🤣. 5d
Larkken @vlwelser 💯 agree 5d
vlwelser @Sargar114 is right. If we just breezed through this we probably wouldn't even notice that this is drawn out. 5d

Laura ….

Thoughts ?

IndoorDame She‘s too polite. I have a sneaking suspicion that if she was willing to make more of a scene Nick wouldn‘t still be an issue. 5d
vlwelser She needs to be more aggressive with these trolls that keep trying to run her life. 5d
AmyG I like Laura alot. @IndoorDame I am wondering if there may be a little blow up with Nick, where she really has it out with him and her Mom, too. Some people, myself included, it takes an awful lot to push my buttons but when I‘ve had it…I speak out. 5d
See All 12 Comments
Sargar114 Agreed @IndoorDame! I wonder that as well @AmyG 5d
Sargar114 I like Laura, I find myself relating to her a lot, especially at that age, so I understand her wanting to not make a scene but she really needs to advocate for herself. 5d
Larkken I think she‘d make a better friend than a Book character. 5d
mcctrish @Larkken ❤️ 4d
mcctrish I get the feeling that Laura had to? give the people what they wanted to get to do her thing ( marks, school stuff = sports, go wherever Nick was going) and now that Laura is just doing what she thinks is best ( she had an almost life ending accident so she should be making big decisions like that, she more than anyone would realize how close she came to being dead or disabled ) they just don‘t like it #suckstobethem 4d
TheBookHippie @mcctrish I‘m thinking it was her all along but it got worse with accident and she was like ENOUGH. My life. Not yours. But is still not strong enough 🤷🏻‍♀️😫 4d

How many people are we gonna add?👀🙄

📷polly laura nina - heading to the pool …

AmyG People and their exes. Getting over them and moving on. Growing up and away from people towards who might just be best. (edited) 5d
vlwelser This was also weird. Too many characters for sure. 5d
IndoorDame She certainly upped the drama with Maggie and Polly but I‘m not sure this book needed any more drama. And Madeline herself didn‘t seem very interesting so I could‘ve done without… 5d
See All 13 Comments
Sargar114 For a book with so many wonderful characters there are quite a few awful ones as well!!! I guess that‘s life. Madeleine was despicable. I hope she gets together with Nick and goes away as well!!! 5d
Karisa @Sargar114 I was thinking that too. Nick and Madeline could run away together. . . 👋 😂 5d
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 oh yes pair those two up and buhbye.. 🤣👀 5d
TheBookHippie @Karisa yes pair them up!! 5d

Sarah
Good grief?
So that‘s the daughter…any clue what that‘s about??

IndoorDame Maggie hinted that she tried to be controlling about something when she should have sat back and admitted Sarah was an adult entitled to live her own life, but that seems pretty out of character for Maggie so I‘m super curious… 5d
AmyG Sarah sure is mad at Maggie. Hopefully we find out what happened. As a mother, I get that it‘s hard to accept some of the decisions your kids make. I find alot of this book to be about…acceptance of people for what/ who they are they are. 5d

Nick announcing himself as Laura‘s fiancé
Excuse me
That was all sooo abusive and Lauras mother?! Unreal.
Why on earth is Nick still even there?
I threw the book.
So your thoughts?
And those pictures on his camera?!?!? Creepy.

IndoorDame 😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬I‘m listening to the audiobook so I can‘t actually throw the phone but I can‘t decide which of those two makes my blood boil more! I think Nick, but mom‘s running a close second! 5d
AmyG Nick wants what HE wants. End of discussion. Not a fan AT ALL. And her mother wants the same. I know many who just see the world through their own lens and want things/ people to be what they want them to be. 5d
vlwelser So creepy. I'm glad this got a book throwing. 5d
See All 12 Comments
Sargar114 Nick = 🤮. Completely abusive behavior. It seems like Laura is aware of it but doesn‘t want to seem like the “bad guy” when “everyone loves” Nick. Just needs to go. 5d
Karisa I can‘t believe she let him inside! @IndoorDame Exactly! Laura‘s mom and Nick are both just horrible. As Sargar put 🤮 5d
Larkken Yes! All of the 🤮🤮🤮 5d
mcctrish This was another instance when I was mad at Maggie. Laura said Nick did not need to come to dinner, she didn‘t want him in LA at all and Maggie was all “it‘s a party!” Like read the room Maggie! I appreciated Laura‘s but of backstory to how/when they met and how Nick has super duper social charisma and she liked being in his tailwinds BUT she‘s waffling with her reactions to him and making herself look like the party pooper ( but I get it ) 5d
TheBookHippie @mcctrish 🤮🤮🤮 4d

Polly

Polly‘s opinion of dating
And the guy at the bar?
Um…
Hmmm
Asher?

What do you think of Polly?

IndoorDame I appreciate her take on dating getting some representation. It‘s not the stereotypical attitude but I totally know women who think similar things 5d
AmyG Polly tells it as is it is. I like her alot. She is amvery kind and strong woman. She gets bored easily with men as she needs one to keep her interest…has to meet the right guy. Is it Asher???? 5d
See All 18 Comments
vlwelser I love her. It seems like she may have made a choice to be sober. I could be totally wrong. Was she just messing with that dude? No idea. 5d
TheBookHippie @AmyG I like her too. 5d
vlwelser I also liked what one of the characters said that she's actually a scientist and everyone is her test subject. 5d
IndoorDame @vlwelser 😂 that was a fabulous line! 5d
TheBookHippie @vlwelser @IndoorDame it‘s probably true… 5d
AmyG @vlwelser Yes…what a great line. 5d
Sargar114 That scene with the guy in the bar was hilarious. I totally think Polly was just messing with him. Polly is delightful. I appreciate her perspective on dating, but I do wonder if it‘s because she was hurt in the past and doesn‘t want to make herself vulnerable again. I wonder if she likes Asher as well but doesn‘t want to ruin the friendship or her relationship with Maggie. We seemed to have stepped away from her perspective. 5d
Karisa @vlwelser 👩‍🔬 It‘s perfect! Polly‘s a great character. 😂 I loved when Maggie‘s daughter said Polly was dressed as a cartoon and she just wanted to know which one. 🤣 5d
mcctrish @Karisa I loved that too! And I think @Sargar114 you are right about not wanting to mess with her space. Asher will need to play a long game with her and running right to his phone to message Madeline is not cool 5d
Sargar114 @mcctrish I‘m guessing him messaging Madeline made @TheBookHippie throw the book as well 😂 4d
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 SERIOUSLY WTF 😵‍💫😝 4d
mcctrish I‘m with you @TheBookHippie this was a peak book throwing section 4d
DebinHawaii Polly is the best! I love her take on things. I liked how she stayed for the confrontation with Maggie, Asher & Sarah & then called Asher on his behavior. 😆 4d
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii Polly is my fav!!!! 4d

Nina like her any better or is it worse ?
How about her boyfriend ?
The trivia night…

AmyG Nina is just a sweet, quirky woman. I‘ve always liked her. 5d
vlwelser I like Nina. But she seems somewhat overbearing from another character's perspective. It could just be Laura being a bit shy and unconfident. 5d
Sargar114 I‘m okay with Nina. I think she was a bit rough when we first “met” her in this story, but softens as you get to know her…and that feels true to life. 5d
See All 7 Comments
mcctrish I like Nina, I wonder if not knowing her from her book makes getting to know her/understand her harder? She also isn‘t babying Laura and Laura needs that 👏🏻👏🏻 5d
DebinHawaii I like Nina & think she is good for Laura & love that Laura pushes back with her a bit. I enjoy their banter! 4d
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I think that‘s accurate . 4d

Maggie slipped therapist names under door..
Upset about her daughter and strangely the earthquake…
What‘s going on with Maggie???

AmyG I am curious if something happened between her and her daughter….OR….does she just not like her daughter as a person, and vice versa. I feel there is more there. 5d
vlwelser This was chaos. I have no idea what's happening with her. 5d
TheBookHippie @AmyG ooooo that‘s brilliant. I wonder. 5d
See All 26 Comments
IndoorDame @AmyG oooh, it hadn‘t occurred to me that they maybe just dislike each other. I love it! That‘s a perspective authors tend to shy away from with mother daughter relationships, but I don‘t know why cause it‘s perfectly true to life 5d
Sargar114 I feel like something may have happened. And maybe with all 3 of them by the sounds of it. But it‘s interesting that the daughter came over after the earthquake so I wonder if Maggie historically doesn‘t like that and her daughter knew that so she came out to try and extend an olive branch. 5d
Karisa @Sargar114 I got the feeling it was to check on her mom after the earthquake too. The daughter mentioned something about embarrassing Maggie in front of her beloved garden club? I thought it was a reference to a past event. 🤷🏻‍♀️ They definitely seem to have different world views. A bit of a theme with Laura and her mom too (and Nina)… Just re-rewatched Everything Everywhere All at Once—beautifully captured mother/daughter struggles in that. 5d
Sargar114 @Karisa good connection between the various mom relationships and how they are similar! 5d
TheBookHippie @Karisa oh yes, that. 5d
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 possibly …. Hmmm. 5d
mcctrish I felt unsettled by how Maggie told Laura about putting the list of therapists under her door. It felt like a semi invasion of privacy or public declaration that Laura needs help. On the one hand no one should be concerned about going to a therapist but nobody knows Laura‘s story really ( or needs to) so it could be any number of things and Laura obviously needs support to deal with her accident and her mother and effin‘ Nick. This stuck out 5d
TheBookHippie @mcctrish glad to not be alone in being conflicted about that move.. 5d
mcctrish So then I wondered, is it just me 🙋🏻‍♀️ or did Maggie do something like this to Sarah? S feels mom always takes Asher‘s side, Asher feels Sarah never supports Maggie. Sounds like family where everyone SWEARS they have explained their position and no one has listened to the actual words coming out of the persons mouth 5d
mcctrish @Karisa we watching EEAO recently and watching that mother- daughter relationship play out is so heartbreaking, as an outsider you see both sides and when you are on the inside it‘s just awful 5d
TheBookHippie @mcctrish people have to hear it -communication is nothing without comprehension of what is and has been said… (edited) 5d
TheBookHippie @mcctrish The inside has such nuance… 5d
Sargar114 @mcctrish in Maggie‘s defense she did just say she slid her a list of names at first. But I agree she was pretty candid when Laura followed up and that seemed strange. But you‘re also right that people shouldn‘t care about needing therapy. 4d
mcctrish @TheBookHippie listening is an art and many people in this story aren‘t doing so well ( except Bob) 4d
mcctrish @Sargar114 you are right and Laura needs to realize she needs to talk to someone, she has a lot going on and needs the support to sort it 4d
Karisa @mcctrish Yes, love that movie so much 4d
Karisa @mcctrish @TheBookHippie I didn‘t think about that (Maggie‘s casual outing of Laura‘s problems) but now that you mention it… Maybe just saying everyone has issues and normalizing it? 4d
TheBookHippie @Karisa Yes. Everyone always …and it just felt a little like “I know what you need” when Laura clearly knows about who and what Maggie does and can ask for the info… it goes with the don‘t give help to someone not asking even IF they could should use it.. it‘s not up to Maggie. @mcctrish (edited) 4d
Karisa @TheBookHippie Yeah, I hear you a little too much and things talked about between the two of them are not the whole house‘s business. @mcctrish 4d
Sargar114 @Karisa knowing Maggie as we do, I‘m guessing normalizing mental health care was more her intent 4d
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I‘m sure that was her intent -I think it‘s impact many have been different and maybe this may explain problem with daughter. Someone‘s intent can be pure but their impact can still do harm. I think that‘s the biggest thing I learned in my 20s about racism -if impact is harmful intent doesn‘t matter. It‘s hard to rectify self with. I fail at this often intent/impact .. in all things 😫😵‍💫 4d
DebinHawaii Yes to all of this -both the relationship, I feel like it was ongoing but something g finally broke it. Maybe as @Karisa said the garden club incident? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I also was bugged by Maggie being public about the list but I think Maggie doesn‘t think about it like that. She seems to like having a support system around & thinks most things are the business of the whole house. 4d

Bob. What do you think of him after learning more?

AmyG He just seems like a kind, decent guy. He likes his gardening and sports and I think he just wants someone who likes him…for him. He is so unsure of himself….he also needs a “cheerleader”…which seems to be Laura. (edited) 5d
vlwelser Team Bob 100% 5d
IndoorDame He seems sweet if maybe a little boringly “perfect”. Though I was totally into his public garden space initiative, so I‘m hoping for hidden depths 5d
See All 11 Comments
Sargar114 I agree @IndoorDame he‘s kinda too “perfect” and it can get a bit overdone, but it‘s okay for the story so I‘m on board. 5d
Karisa Sunflower Bob! 👏👏👏He‘s very down to earth (sorry, just couldn‘t resist). 😅 5d
mcctrish @Karisa I saw this and said “sunflower Bob” 💛💛 he‘s the best and a bit nerdy and I‘m cool with it 5d
Karisa @mcctrish 🌻💛💐 5d
Larkken He and Laura a very cute… and very boring. I guess everyone needed drama so as to draw attention away from them? 😬 …that sounds harsh. They‘re just so sweet and simple lol 4d

Bob
Laura
Will it ever happen 😝🙄

“Anything is interesting when it‘s explain by someone who cares about it…”

Fun watching them “flirt” or annoying troupe?

AmyG I think it will happen. I hope it happens! I am being patient. 5d
vlwelser They're cute. But it's definitely drawn out a bit. 5d
IndoorDame @vlwelser agreed. I‘m rooting for them, but ready for them to get on with it 5d
See All 11 Comments
Sargar114 I‘m finding it fun to watch develop. I could see how it could be annoying, but since I care about the characters and so far removed from the beginnings of relationships in my own life, I‘m enjoying it. I think it will happen by the end but better it happens when they‘re not already living together. 5d
Karisa @AmyG That‘s where I‘m at too. They are so comfortable together. The enjoyable, quirky characters around them helps with the waiting. 5d
mcctrish I‘m completely okay with how Laura and Bob are playing out 5d
Read4life Well said @Karisa . I think I‘d feel like it was too drawn out if it didn‘t have so many great characters around them. 4d
mollyrotondo It‘s way too drawn out for me. It‘s a lot of romance waiting games and not enough personal growth. I also really hate all the sports bonding. That‘s great they have that in common but I find it super irritating. The writing seems super unnatural in those parts. 2d
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo the sports thing was like they were 15 years old or I do not get it or both 🤣😵‍💫 I dunno it‘s clumsy 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2d
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie maybe that‘s why it‘s irritating to me: it‘s too juvenile. They do sound like they are 15 years old 😂 but exactly I could just not be getting it. But I do think it‘s written very clumsy. I certainly want them together but if they are going to act like this then I don‘t need to be a witness to them getting together 😂 2d

DebinHawaii @Karisa @TheBookHippie Yay to a Polly book! 🎉💯 2w
Sargar114 This book is such a delight to read. I am very much enjoying wing back in this world! 2w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 it is so much zen. 2w
julieclair I am loving this book! Great pick! (Unless Laura and Bob don‘t get together. Then I will have a totally different opinion. 😉) 2w
mollyrotondo I am not loving this one as much as I loved Nina. I feel disconnected from most of the characters except Polly 😂 i thought I really knew Nina by this point in her book but I don‘t feel connected to Laura in the same way. I understand her car fear but feel far away from her in every other way. There‘s also way more romance novel vibes in this one than in Nina‘s story. But I‘d definitely be up for a Polly book or Maggie book 😂 7d
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I have thrown the book once okay fine twice. 👀😅🤐 7d
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie 😂 I‘m glad I‘m not alone. The Nick this is beyond irritating and I‘m sure I‘ll get more and more frustrated by him. And the constant image issues get on my nerves. She puts on a bathing suit and it‘s like a 90s teen movie when everyone is shocked when the girl takes off her glasses 🙄 6d
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I feel like it‘s YA 🤷🏻‍♀️ or romance 🤷🏻‍♀️ I‘m not liking it. 😵‍💫🤣🤪😝😅 6d
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie I enjoyed Nina‘s book a lot more lol 6d
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo same. Really enjoyed Nina. However not enjoying Nina in this book😵‍💫😝 6d

Okay it‘s a lot of people intertwined😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫
I could look back at Nina‘s book -but I just don‘t care.
Are you keeping up or ignoring it?

Omg tulips 🤣🤣😅😂😵‍💫😵‍💫can‘t escape them

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulip_mania

Bottlebrush trees I love too.

AmyG I feel that Nina‘s story is irrelevant at this point. I am happy it‘s a stand alone book. If one likes this and hasn‘t read Nina Hill, they can do so. 2w
IndoorDame I haven‘t looked back. I may reread Nina‘s book eventually just for the sake of it, but it won‘t be because I‘m reading this. 2w
mcctrish I read Nina‘s book just long enough ago that I‘m like “wait, I should know these people right?!” I don‘t need to reread it, I know what I know and I have 100 literal books piled around my house I haven‘t read ( if not more) 2w
See All 11 Comments
vlwelser So many people..... 2w
LaraReads Haven‘t read Nina‘s book, so I‘m just letting all these names wash over me. So many! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2w
TheBookHippie @LaraReads I read it and I‘m just ignoring them all🤣👀 2w
DebinHawaii Yeah, I don‘t know that I‘ll go back & read it as there are too many others to read, but it does make me wonder who we have met before that I am not quite remembering! 🤔 2w
Sargar114 I agree you don‘t need to know there references. It also kinda helps not keeping up since it is from Laura‘s perspective mostly and she doesn‘t really know it anyway, so you sometimes share the feeling of being lost lol 2w
julieclair I haven‘t read Nina‘s book, so I haven‘t met any of these people before! 2w
mollyrotondo @Sargar114 agreed! I‘m reading this as if I‘m Laura 😂 I don‘t remember all these people. I remember the bookstore people at that‘s it. I‘m just ignoring it because we don‘t even really see these people who are being name dropped. But I love all the gardening talk and wish this book came with photographs 😂 7d

Trivia practice at Nina‘s thoughts ?
So. Nina?
Is Nina the same for you ? (if you‘ve read her book..)
What did you think of all the L names 🤣

IndoorDame Nina seems so much more intense and aggressive when we don‘t get her internal perspective. I would not be friends with this version of Nina, I think she‘d stress me out. 2w
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I had the same exact thoughts. Yikes. 2w
mcctrish I thought this scene with Nina and the trivia meetup made Nina more like her book version. I‘m happy she‘s popping in and I can‘t wait for trivia night 2w
See All 18 Comments
vlwelser Trivia night will be the true test. She does seem aggressive but that's Laura's perspective. I hate all the L names. This fucks with my brain. 2w
Larkken I really liked the first book. This Nina is confusing me - but then I‘m remembering the trivia night scenes in the first book now as maybe not being her best… 2w
TheBookHippie @Larkken I think you‘re right!!! That makes total sense! 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser right ? 😵‍💫 2w
TheBookHippie @mcctrish me either!!! Drama drama. 2w
Karisa I feel like this section softened Nina‘s edges a bit but I still did find her more likeable in her book. I‘m glad she‘s invited Laura into the trivia group. It gives her another way to branch out 2w
Karisa I‘m looking forward to trivia night scenes. Probably because I want to see if I‘d know the answers 🤓 2w
TheBookHippie @Karisa 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I think the same!!! 2w
DebinHawaii Yes, trivia night will be interesting. I agree @IndoorDame I think Nina‘s quirkiness & personality & general awkwardness were softened by reading her internal perspectives. I think in certain moods I‘d want to hang out with her though & as I am competitive (although not Nina level) with trivia, I find that humorous. 2w
Sargar114 @Karisa I agree, she was much less intense this section. The L names were silly but felt true to the quirkiness of the book so I was okay with it. 2w
julieclair I have not read Nina‘s book yet, but meeting her in this book, she is much more intense than I imagined. 2w
julieclair Oh my gosh. I want to live in these rooms! 📚📚📚📚📚 2w
TheBookHippie @julieclair meeeee tooo! 2w
Catsandbooks I haven't read Nina but I actually like her. Ik she's intense but I just see her as inexcusably herself 1w
mollyrotondo This scene was better for Nina. The whole book so far has portrayed her as being so one note and annoying. Even Bob said at one point that Nina makes him feel dumb. This scene softened her a bit by just simply giving her more to say than just one line trivia points. I loved Nina in her book so it‘s disappointing that she isn‘t lovable in this book. 7d

Maggie talking with Laura Laura‘s opinion of therapy …
What do you think about Maggie?
Thoughts ?
Lauras mom sending the box..

📸how I picture Maggie - I think 🙃

AmyG I like Maggie. She wants to help but it‘s her business, therapy, so she knows how to approach Laura. 2w
TheBookHippie @AmyG I love that part of her. 2w
IndoorDame I love Maggie! I want to know more about her story!!! And I like her willingness to dive in and help Laura since a lot of therapists try so hard to separate their professional and personal lives. 2w
See All 12 Comments
mcctrish I love Maggie and I think your pics are perfect. I want to know her story. We started watching Shrinking on AppleTV recently and I picture Maggie being part of their circle 🤣 2w
vlwelser Maggie is great. I also think the box from the mother seemed well intentioned. 2w
Larkken I am also on team Maggie! 2w
Karisa @mcctrish I was just watching that yesterday! Maggie could totally work in their office. Maybe be a love interest for Harrison Ford…. 😂 That‘s LA too—good connection! 2w
mcctrish Oh @Karisa it‘s all coming together 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 2w
DebinHawaii Maggie is wonderful. I am still wondering about the rift with her daughter & what caused it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w
Sargar114 I love Maggie and her willingness to help 2w
julieclair I think it‘s wonderful that Laura ended up in Maggie‘s house. Maggie is just the right person to get her talking and starting on the road to healing. 2w
mollyrotondo I love Maggie. She is just want Laura needs to help nudge her into therapy. I really want a whole book on Maggie lol. And these pictures are beautiful! I definitely picture Maggie like this! 7d

THIS is how I‘m picturing Bob.. feel free to share your ideas and tag me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyway -what do we think of Bob?

AmyG I am not sure I picture him like that but….love the guy. He is just so sweet and oblivious about his looks which is endearing. (edited) 2w
TheBookHippie @AmyG I‘m sure he doesn‘t 🤣 I couldn‘t find exactly what I wanted and I‘m snowed in 🤣🤣🤣 so I picked this😱🙃 2w
IndoorDame I do like his total attentiveness to Laura and his willingness to be in the moment. I‘m rooting for them to get together. But I find the idea that he‘s oblivious to his looks unlikely given his dating history and the area he‘s living in. 2w
See All 28 Comments
mcctrish I like the sunflower Bob the best! Maybe Bob is oblivious to his looks because they don‘t make someone worthy of love, actions do. His failed romances just make he feel less worthy 2w
vlwelser I love him. He's so pretty. But has a hard time communicating. He seems to be ok with Laura though. 2w
AmyG @vlwelser I just feel he isn‘t very confident. @TheBookHippie I sort of pictured him as a Hugh Dancy (when he was young). 2w
IndoorDame @mcctrish I like the sunflower Bob the best too! 😆 2w
LaraReads @mcctrish now he shall forever be known as sunflower Bob in my head! 🤣🌻💁🏻‍♂️ 2w
TheBookHippie @mcctrish 🌻🌻🌻 you are probably right! 2w
Larkken @vlwelser this made me chortle. Damning through faint praise, maybe? 2w
vlwelser @Larkken I think that's a Friends reference. The young people use it quite a lot. 2w
Larkken @vlwelser ohhhh oh well 💀😆 2w
vlwelser @Larkken still questioning whether it came from Friends since no one that uses it was alive when that was on. 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser ♥️♥️♥️ 2w
TheBookHippie @AmyG oh that‘s a good one! 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser that friends is the favorite of a bunch of high school girls here just blows my mind. 2w
vlwelser I loved it when I was a high school girl so I do get that part. How is it not dated and irrelevant? 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser it‘s peaceful they tell me 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w
vlwelser I do love young people. They never stop surprising me. I'm looking forward to getting a new batch of college interns this summer. 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser I introduced them to Violet Femmes and The Cure this past week…👀 2w
vlwelser Oh good. Now I have Violent Femmes playing in my head. 🖤❤ 2w
DebinHawaii I am not sure how I picture Bob in my head, but Sunflower Bob works for me… 😉 2w
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii the sunflower is quite the popular!! 2w
Sargar114 I was picturing darker hair for some reason, I had Tim Rozon in Schitts Creek in my head. But Sunflower Bob definitely works. 2w
julieclair I‘m on Team Sunflower Bob. 🌻 2w
Catsandbooks I like any of these versions of Bob 😉 1w

Laura & Bob
Basketball
Gardening
Car riding
Denny‘s
Claw game pink cat
Lots of similarities
Bob hmmmm are they going to couple up?

So Laura‘s PTSD…
What do you think of Laura ?

AmyG They had better become a couple. Maggie seems to be on track to help Laura with her ptsd. I feel that this house and everyone in it…will help her to heal. (edited) 2w
IndoorDame I hope Laura decides to get help for her PTSD! I think she‘s finally found a supportive environment and is poised to really heal if she‘s open to that. 2w
mcctrish @IndoorDame I think you are so right with her being poised to heal. I want Laura to stay in the house until she feels strong and then she can move out, not because of school 2w
See All 18 Comments
TheBookHippie @mcctrish I had those same thoughts. Stay. Heal. Rest. 2w
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I hope she can heal here. 2w
vlwelser I hope Laura gets help. But I think these people are good for her. She just needs some confidence. Not just but it will help. 2w
LaraReads @mcctrish yes, me too! Another move is too stressful right now! 2w
Larkken I enjoyed the claw game digression! I forgot about that. When we were traveling for a while my friend group and I used to try to get something from every claw game we saw. Some were def more generous than others! 2w
Karisa @mcctrish Yes! Hoping she stays. I wonder what the commute would be like? School could provide her with the therapist she needs. Universities these days are so much better at providing support for mental health. Maggie‘s nudging will also help but paying for sessions out of pocket seems daunting. (edited) 2w
TheBookHippie @Karisa AH that was on my list to figure out the commute! 2w
DebinHawaii Yes, I hope she stays & that she gets the help she needs for the PTSD. I like that she beat Bob at basketball & he was fine with it because I feel like her ex would not be. The claw game—I suck so badly at it! I think I get too impatient! 🤣 2w
Sargar114 I feel like they couple up once she moves out. I can‘t imagine she does the commute once she starts school. But I think she‘s found a “family” already out in CA 💙 2w
julieclair @IndoorDame You said it perfectly! And I do hope she is ready to heal. She deserves a happier and more grounded life. 2w
Catsandbooks I think her and Bob are good for each other! 1w
mollyrotondo @DebinHawaii I also suck terribly at the claw game 😂 I‘ve never once played a generous claw game machine 😂 7d
mollyrotondo I like Laura and Bob together. They need to stop being so hesitant with one another though! 7d
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I won the claw game once… it was a grand day! 7d

Then high school: The Confessions …
Polly theatre
Laura jock nerd
Anna Art nerd
Maggie stoners !!
So
You?
Me 4.25 GPA -detention every damn day for my opinion or being dresscoded 👀✊🏼

AmyG I was so shy in high school. I didn‘t really come out of that until college. 2w
IndoorDame I didn‘t really have a group in high school, but I definitely had friends who identified as stoners, art nerds, theater kids… 2w

mcctrish I didn‘t play sports or an instrument, those were the main after school clubs. I wasn‘t on student council either. I took art all through school and ballet outside of school. And I swam but not on a team. I don‘t think I‘m a joiner. Or a group person. I was late everyday and never made it to home room for announcements and O Canada. I was always in the caf with the low achievers 🤣🤣 my grades were good, which is why the vp was not impressed 2w
TheBookHippie @mcctrish 🤣👀 well we could have been friends then. 2w
TheBookHippie @AmyG ♥️🙃 2w
vlwelser Jock nerd for sure. 2w
mcctrish ❤️❤️ 2w
LaraReads The quiet smart girl. That‘s literally what people wrote in my yearbook, “you are so quite.” Coworkers & friends laugh about it because I‘m kinda loud. But only when I get going. I‘m perfectly happy not talking at all! I had 3 best friends who I could do anything (getting up to no good) or nothing (lounging in my bedroom) with & be so happy. I didn‘t really bother with the rest of the school. 2w
LaraReads @AmyG same! 2w
TheBookHippie @LaraReads 🤣😵‍💫 my best friends all went to public school I saw them at the roller rink every Friday and Saturday. 🛼🛼🛼 2w
LaraReads @TheBookHippie man, the roller rink. Ours was called the Skate-A-Rena. Miss those days. The best! 2w
TheBookHippie @LaraReads my dad owned the local roller rink for 31 years. 🛼 it was the best way to grow up. 2w
LaraReads @TheBookHippie that is so awesome! 😃 2w
Larkken @LaraReads everyone thought I was smart and quiet too. And I was in drama so the combo always seemed to confuse ppl. 2w
Karisa @IndoorDame I‘m with you here. I had my work friends, my church friends, my smart kid friends (many of whom were jocks but not me), and my party friends. I happily drifted between them only realizing near senior year that about half were older. So senior year, I had my bike shop friends. They liked to make prank calls and cussed like sailors 😅 2w
TheBookHippie @Karisa 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 that‘s the best! 2w
Karisa @TheBookHippie The days before caller ID were glorious for bored small town kids 😂 2w
TheBookHippie @Karisa this and ding dong ditch it and kick the can… 2w
DebinHawaii I didn‘t have a group. I was quiet & had a small circle of friends & was a reader & in journalism & took AP English & History, but wasn‘t great in all subjects. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii my son is like that history and English IB (international baccalaureate) 2w
Sargar114 I am Laura to a tee! Jock-nerd, so never really fit in with either group. 2w
julieclair I loved high school! I was part of a group of about 30-40 kids who took honors/AP classes, and were leaders and joiners. There was always something fun going on. 2w
Catsandbooks I was a teacher's pet. Took tons of AP classes. I had a great group of friends. I was friendly with pretty much everyone. 1w
mollyrotondo I was in the band wing all the time lol more music geek than band geek since I hated playing in public. I wrote music for the band to play. Polly & Laura & swimming and talking about healing timelines ..so sad she thinks she should be healed.
Something is so wrong about that.
Also I think back home people were misusing her experience against her. You?
Thoughts ?

I like Polly more Polly please…

AmyG I feel that Laura didn‘t get the support she needed from those close to her…back home. That now, from these people she barely knows, she may get that and the “found” family she needs. Polly is awesome! 2w
IndoorDame Yes! I totally got the vibe that her NY “support system” was using this to keep her down for some reason… And I hate her mother for not believing in mental health. She‘s a phd, she should know better! 2w
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame UGH. Just made me sick. 2w
See All 22 Comments
TheBookHippie @AmyG I‘m hoping so. She‘s so young. I hope they help her heal. 2w
mcctrish I LOVE that the secret garden in this book has a swimming pool! Laura‘s family is awful. I agree with @AmyG this new group will show Laura what ‘family‘ can be and help her with her recovery. I totally get that it can be frustrating with the healing process/timeline, the greatest gift you can give yourself/someone else is the time needed to get to the other side. It doesn‘t ever go away but it can feel so much lighter 2w
vlwelser I loved that Polly was like that's yours now. We all need a Polly for an extra confidence boost. 2w
Karisa @vlwelser @TheBookHippie Yes! Polly is so awesome. She fully embraced Laura right from the start. How many people go years in a new place before finding a support system? Laura lucked out with Polly/Maggie (edited) 2w
LaraReads Polly is so great. There is nothing better than having a true cheerleader in your corner. Laura needs that! 2w
LaraReads @Karisa totally agree! 2w
TheBookHippie @LaraReads I agree I like her so much. 2w
Larkken I like how the author is able to write a variety of really quirky people and highlight how their differences help them to be friends. Very soothing, this highlighting of differences in a way that makes them all feel normal. 2w
TheBookHippie @Larkken I think this is my favorite thing about this book. 2w
Larkken @TheBookHippie yes! I just want them to get on with the romantic tension so I can get back to the cast as a whole 😆 2w
TheBookHippie @Larkken 💯💯💯 2w
DebinHawaii Polly is the best. I hope she gets a book or more time in this one. I hate the pressure so often given to “get over” things especially grief & trauma. The lack of support from Laura‘s family is angering. I agree @IndoorDame her mother & the rest of her family should know better! 😡 (edited) 2w
Sargar114 We all need a Polly in our life. I wonder if Laura “thought” she was healed because she‘s never had the amount of support she has experienced in her short time in California. 2w
julieclair I love those nifty swimsuits and hairstyles in the vintage ad! 2w
julieclair @Larkken Yes! These quirky characters all feel like real people. I can totally see myself being friends with them. 2w
TheBookHippie @julieclair I would wear all those suits so cute! 2w
julieclair @TheBookHippie I want the blue gingham check 2-piece and the sailor-type one-piece. 😀 2w
Catsandbooks I adore Polly! I hope if the author writes another book in this universe it's about Polly 1w
mollyrotondo Polly is the best friend for a woman who is long overdue for a true friend who actually listens to them and supports them. Laura‘s connections in NY do seem to keep her down or at least don‘t care about her. I will say I don‘t like how the book portrays East coast people as stuck up and self absorbed v. the West coast characters who seem more warm hearted. I‘m from the East coast 😂 but I‘m glad Laura has finally found true friends. 7d

IndoorDame Love that this is a real shop! I‘ve only been to LA once, so I always appreciate local color when I read about it to help me figure out the current vibe of the city. 2w
mcctrish Any sandwich shop that serves up cornichons on the side is my kind of sandwich shop. Another reason LA is on my travel plans. I wonder if the Waffle is still open ( I know the pandemic killed even the tried and true places) it had the best chickens and waffles. I‘d like Bob and Laura to go there 💛 2w

TheBookHippie @mcctrish I think this sandwich shop just closed😵‍💫😭. We stay in Koreatown and the food there 🤤🤤🤤🤤. 2w
vlwelser You've got me looking up food recipes for all of the books. Not just reading together. 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 2w
Karisa The sandwiches sounded delicious! @AmyG The Laura/Bob thing has got to happen. With this much set up, it‘d be cruel for it not to 😂 2w
Larkken @mcctrish are cornichons really considered that spicy? I eat them by the handful, haha 2w
TheBookHippie @Larkken 🤷🏻‍♀️ I didn‘t think so either? 2w
mcctrish @Larkken maybe if your go to pickle is bread and butter? 2w
DebinHawaii You can‘t beat a good sandwich shop! I I would have happily consumed both of the ones they ordered. Heartbreaking that it closed… 😣 It is so hard for the small restaurants especially these days. 2w
DebinHawaii @AmyG Agree! 😉 2w
Larkken @mcctrish maybe! I love all pickles 😂 2w
Sargar114 LA as a character in this book is delightful. @TheBookHippie there is a YT or IG account called “LA in a minute” that does all sorts of historical tidbits about the LA area, and it‘s so fun. He did a series on foods invented in the Los Angeles area. 2w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 ooooo thx!! 2w
mcctrish @Larkken me too! 2w

mcctrish I love all the library references in this book ( I had no idea) because ( I have said it before) I LOVED The Library Book. @TheBookHippie I mentioned your tours of the LA library to my VP this week, she and her daughter are in LA for our spring break. She said that‘s right up her daughter‘s alley ❤️❤️❤️ 2w
TheBookHippie @mcctrish oh yay!!! Last time I did it was 2019 and it was fabulous!! I hope they enjoy! 2w
Karisa Every time Laura insists on walking somewhere like the library and people try to dissuade her, I hear the song Walking in LA in my head… 😅 https://youtu.be/eQF7FDeUePA 2w
Karisa @mcctrish @TheBookHippie I told my husband the next time with go there, we need to work in that tour. 😀 It‘ll be cool if Laura visits in the book too 🤞 2w
vlwelser They do seem to hate that she walks everywhere. East Coast vs West Coast thing? Or just making the point that Laura specifically doesn't do cars? We shall see. 2w
TheBookHippie @Karisa @vlwelser everytime we‘re in LA people are FLOORED we walk most places .. or GASP bus🤣🙃 Chicago you walk or L but mostly walk . SanFrancisco I didn‘t get as much shock that I was walking. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w
mcctrish @vlwelser it‘s almost funny how they react. It‘s not like she‘s even going to another neighbourhood, just a few blocks. Walking ( early morning runs in my husband‘s case) are how you check a place out 2w
vlwelser Chicago is East Coast, right? I think it fits in. 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser Midwest 2 hours ish from me. Or for those who know me it‘s the love of my life 🏙️💙 2w
LaraReads @vlwelser agree seems like they are just trying to drive (pun not intended) the point home that age doesn‘t like being in a car. 2w
vlwelser It is sort of a stereotype that no one walks in LA. Weird that they also seem to be stereotyped as being so healthy. I think it's healthy and nice for the environment if we don't drive everywhere. 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser I loathe driving. Loathe. 👀 2w
vlwelser 💯 I wfh this week because the train was shut down. The boss was like you people need to start driving cars. 😂 nope. 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser goals to move to a place I don‘t have to drive to. 2w
vlwelser We also have the massive Boston Public Library across the street from work. It's magic. 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser I want to go there. Hoping Mr Book Hippie territory goes further into Massachusetts so I can travel along and be a tourist 👀🤣✊🏼 2w
DebinHawaii Loving the libraries. I live almost directly between two myself & they have such different personalities. I tend to go to one more, because it has a bookstore versus a section & is a bit bigger but I like the option. Also I need to read The Library Book too! And the walking thing I get, I like to walk but it‘s mostly neighborhood close to me. I love areas where you can walk in & out of cute shops & cafes. 💛 2w
Sargar114 Highly recommend the Library Book, such a fascinating read. Also did the tour before I moved. So many cool places in LA to walk around, but the public transit is not as reliable as most cities but it‘s also so much more spread out. 2w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I agree spread out! They could do better by far!! 2w
Catsandbooks I'm originally from WI and lived right on the WI/IL border so it was a 1 hour trip to Chicago for me. I would always take the train down and then walk or use public transport. It really is the best way to do the city! 1w
mollyrotondo My goal is to also move somewhere that I don‘t have to drive. I hate driving! I actually understand Laura‘s anxiety when she‘s in the car. I experience it too but for other reasons. IndoorDame Maggie is my favorite! I‘m happy she‘s getting her own little dramatic subplot. Dying to know what‘s up with the sister! 2w
mcctrish I am intrigued by Maggie and her family. She‘s living her life on her terms although her comments about being too old for love etc.. at 60 were freaking me out since I turn 59 this summer. I am too old for drama that‘s for damn sure. And married, I should clarify 🤣 2w
See All 22 Comments
TheBookHippie @mcctrish Same and LORD NO.. no thank you. I‘ll be single if Mr BookHippie isn‘t earthside anymore. 2w
TheBookHippie @AmyG Asher texted her when he landed and a bit later… no answer… 2w
Karisa @AmyG @IndoorDame @TheBookHippie Yeah, Maggie is so easygoing. She seems to get along with everyone. What could be going on between Maggie and her daughter? Seems like it‘s been a longtime of not talking too. 2w
vlwelser It seems like the sister might be a problem. Ignoring Asher seems aggressive. Maybe it's best if she stays out of this book. But that's not generally how this works. 2w
mcctrish @TheBookHippie I would enjoy having the whole bed ….. 2w
TheBookHippie @Karisa My thoughts exactly.. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w
TheBookHippie @mcctrish mine travels for work so half the week I‘m in bed heaven. 2w
Larkken I am happy to see more of Maggie but the subplot seems v dramatic. I‘m torn between wanting more to get more Maggie and wanting less drama-for-the-sake-of-drama 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w
DebinHawaii I agree @mcctrish !! From the descriptions in the book, I thought she was in her 70-80s & as I‘m turning 58 in the fall, I was annoyed with all her age comments & Asher wondering when she started looking/getting so old! 😳😱😡 2w
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii SAME!!! 👀 2w
Sargar114 I‘m definitely interested in the Maggie subplot, would be interested in a spin-off. I‘m wondering if surrounding herself with twenty year olds has a way of making her feel older than she is. Then again, I‘m turning 40 this year and feel old…so perspective I suppose 2w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I always think oh I‘m 35 then this daughter person says MA …I‘m 34! 👀 but 20 seems like a baby to me so perspective yes. 2w
julieclair @vlwelser LOL… you just know the sister has to make an appearance at some point! 😆 2w
mollyrotondo I like Asher and Maggie a lot. I hope Polly and Asher get together. This book has a way of bringing up a detail about a character in passing and not elaborating any further and you‘re like wait what? 😂 I‘m thinking the problematic daughter will pop by along with nick and they will fall for each other. 1w
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I think I say wait what every other paragraph 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ (edited) 1w
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie 😂 🤣 and then it doesn‘t get further details until way later 😂 I‘m like okayyy. 7d

So Lauras ex Nick - GIRL block his number be done -gracious 😵‍💫🤯
That was abusive ~especially the driving jab. Seriously. Just no. No friends either.
Yuk. I digress..
Ugh, girls read this -think it‘s okay and that this behavior is okay and it‘s not.
It‘s stalking controlling manipulative.
Also Laura‘s mom that‘s um something, Wowsers.

Did this bother you as much as it did me? What did you think?

AmyG The Mom thing really bothered me. No wonder she moved to California. Extreme meddling. 2w
IndoorDame Nick totally made me mad! I‘m screaming at her to block his number! 2w
mcctrish I‘m honestly not sure who made me madder. I actually can‘t believe Laura moved to California with this kind of control/manipulation she needs a therapist asap so she can start to understand why they suck and she is taking back her power and boundaries 2w

TheBookHippie @mcctrish 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💯💯💯 2w
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame 💯💯💯💯 2w
TheBookHippie @AmyG Exactly right -no wonder she left!!!! 2w
Karisa Agreeing with all above! Those interactions with her mom and ex made it clear why Laura needed the distance from them all to heal. I keep getting irritated that her family would think being in school to become a physical therapist is beneath them. Who would think that?! 2w
TheBookHippie @Karisa if you would like to come to any family gathering of Mr BookHippies family or mine I will show you Exhibit A Exhibit B 😵‍💫🤣👀 2w
vlwelser Thankfully she seems to have gotten away from these toxic people. 2w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 2w
LaraReads Just terribly toxic people in this poor girl‘s life. Very sad. 2w
Larkken So, so bothered. At everyone. How dare her new friends not immediately try to help get rid of him? Or is that too meddly and points to me trying to help save ppl overly much? Can‘t tell. All I know is, Maggie inviting him to dinner seemed to me to be kind of a jerk move. 2w
Larkken I am sorry I jumped ahead, ignore that comment unless you don‘t mind a brief ahead reference ⬆️ suffice to say, the whole Nick and Laura‘s parents thing really really bugged me and I thought multiple times in this book about popping him/them in the nose. I felt like Laura was always threatening consequences but never following through and that ALSO made me mad. 2w
Karisa @TheBookHippie 🤣🤣🤣 Sounds scary—what a head trip that would be! 2w
TheBookHippie @Karisa I‘ve not seen my in-laws in 5 ish years.. my parents I see little as possible .. it‘s a total head trip everytime. Alt right religious homophobic bigoted narcissist folks, you can have a field day. My brother often does 🤣✊🏼. He‘s my hero. 2w
Karisa @Larkken Yeah, I hear you on Laura. Like @IndoorDame Block that ex‘s phone number! To paraphrase Angelou when someone tells you who they are believe them (but easier said than done)! 2w
DebinHawaii Yes, both lean to toxic at least for Laura. I think I was more annoyed with her mother though since she wouldn‘t have had the flowers & boyfriend interaction without her meddling. 🤬 2w
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii you‘re right!!!!! That is a valid point and crucial. So toxic! 2w
Read4life I really wanted someone to put Nick in his place. He needs to go. The mom conversations made me crazy. My daughter wants to be a physical therapist so it was close to book throwing time for me. 🤓 2w
TheBookHippie @Read4life I feel that book throw 💯💯👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😵‍💫😵‍💫 2w
Sargar114 Definitely book throwing interactions!!! Glad she put the physical separation between herself and them, but fully expect him to randomly show up and be extra annoying. 2w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 Ha!! I think the same well we have that coming… ugh I hope not but am expecting it! 2w
julieclair I agree with all of these comments. Especially @mcctrish … she totally needs a therapist… has needed one for awhile it would seem. I hope she gets one. I am proud of her for finding the strength to break away and move to California. I hope she can hang tough and not cave and move back to New York. 2w
TheBookHippie @julieclair the poor girl all that and not “allowed” therapy. 2w
Catsandbooks I agree with everyone. I hate the mom and Nick. All the pet names Nick uses are gross, like it's wayyyy overboard. And he's always gaslighting her. And when the mom said that psychotherapy isn't a real science I lost it! Many choice words were said 🤬🤬 Laura definitely needs therapy and I'm so glad she moved away from these toxic people! 1w
TheBookHippie @Catsandbooks 💯💯💯💯 1w
mollyrotondo I agree with everyone! Nick is a total gaslighter. The flowers and the pet names and the whole I‘ll wait for you to come around stuff is just so gross and stalker-ish. The mother is awful for sending him her daughter‘s address and for discouraging Laura from seeing a therapist. I was really disappointed that Laura FaceTimed Nick to tell him to stop because to me that‘s encouraging him more than discouraging. I hate this whole mess! 1w

This one messes with me badly. I‘m currently in the time sequence I love. I WISH THEY WOULD ABOLISH THIS!

kspenmoll Me too! And all the students. We do not need it ! 2w
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll my poor little readers it‘s so bad… 😭😭 2w
dabbe ONE of the reasons I'm happy to live in AZ is this. We don't ever change our time. We probably have enough DST for the entire world. Borrow some sunny days from us! 🤣 2w

TheBookHippie @dabbe it‘s dark either way just leave us alone is my statement!!! I‘ll take your sun!!! 💛💛💛💛 2w
willaful Oh man, it's the worst.

In 2019, we visited London and were just in time for their time change, after already having experienced *our* time change, on top of regular jet lag. We were only there a week and I never did adjust. After we got home, I was hallucinating.
2w
TheBookHippie @willaful It is so awful for so many people and animals too. Arghhhh. I‘d be hallucinating too I come fairly close now 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫. 2w
dabbe @TheBookHippie Too true, that. Is it worse when you have to “fall back“ or “spring forward“ or both? 2w
Bookwormjillk Oh no. This weekend was already short enough. 2w
vlwelser Booooooooo! 👎 2w
TheBookHippie @dabbe spring forward only. Fall back is relief. 2w
RamsFan1963 @TheBookHippie No more fall backs if I understand correctly. Since they voted to abolish daylight savings time, this spring forward is permanent, no time change in November. 2w
DebinHawaii Like @dabbe we don‘t do it here. I dislike it because it makes me 3 hours behind the west coast & my friends & family & I prefer two hours because it means either my brother is texting me at 4:00 AM or I am trying to talk to my bestie on the way home from work & she is yawning most of that time. 😬 2w

This was sweet but it veered very close to cheese & saccharine which makes it a light pick. I enjoyed Laura & Bob and the rest of the crew and would be interested in continuing on with this series. The stage is set let the story begin🧡👀🧡

Happy Sunday 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

On to chapters 13-22🧡

AmyG This is very refreshing after the last book. I am not a romance fan but since I loved Nina Hill I am expecting to love this one, too. 🤞🏻 (edited) 3w
IndoorDame I‘m finding this to be lovely and relaxing 😌 3w
TheBookHippie @AmyG it‘s a lovely cup of coffee read for sure. 3w

Karisa @AmyG @IndoorDame Yep, yep! It‘s nice to have a straightforward, sweet read right now. 3w
vlwelser I am so happy we're reading this. And that other book. 😂 March 2023 is going to be hard to beat. 3w
mcctrish I just want to devour this 🤣🤣 3w
AmyG @mcctrish Same here! 3w
julieclair @mcctrish Me too! And I think I might be justified in doing so because it's only on a 14-day loan from the library and I don't think it can be renewed. 😏 3w
mcctrish @julieclair read like the wind 👏🏻👏🏻🤣 3w
IndoorDame @julieclair ooh, I‘m in the same boat! Trying to decide if I should scrape up another copy and stick to our schedule or just devour it before Libby snatches it back! 3w
Catsandbooks @IndoorDame @julieclair same. My plan is to just read it all before Libby takes it back. 3w
julieclair @IndoorDame @Catsandbooks We can just have ourselves a little feast, happily devouring this book! @mcctrish You're welcome to join us, even if you don't have Libby or the library hanging over your head. 😂 3w
mcctrish @julieclair I am going to try and pace myself, I bought this ages ago and forgot it was for Sunday buddy read and basically read the first chunk before I realized 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ so now I‘m going to try and stay on track so I know what‘s going on 3w
julieclair @mcctrish 👍👍No matter how we end up reading it, it's going to be a fun ride! 3w
mollyrotondo I‘m definitely excited for this even though I‘m not a contemporary romance fan. The good thing about Nina Hill was that it wasn‘t all about romance so I‘m expecting the same from this. Just fun and lots of female character growth with a little romance thrown in. So far really enjoying it. Definitely expect a better ending than last month‘s book. And Waxman is definitely an author to support. 3w

Best way to get over a man is to get ____
I cackled ….. my grandma said this, so so so wrong 😬🤦🏻‍♀️
However I needed the laugh!!

Dorothy L Sayers
Books mentioned

The son Asher arrives …👀

Liz manager bookstore don‘t have much to say on her yet .

Here we go!!!

Anything I missed?

IndoorDame Sounds like my grandma 😆 3w

LaraReads @IndoorDame @TheBookHippie your grandmas both sound amazingly fun! 😅 3w
IndoorDame @LaraReads mine certainly was! 3w
TheBookHippie @LaraReads Mine was full of it til the day she died at 98. So much fun. 3w
Karisa And the sad heart quote… 😳🤣🤣🤣 3w
Karisa @AmyG I‘d never heard of her but did notice a Litsy user with Sayerlover or something similar recently. Might need to check her out! 3w
vlwelser Maybe Liz will get a book! 😂 that's not even relevant to this question. 3w
vlwelser This book is already so funny. I love the quick banter between characters. It makes them feel real to me. 3w
TheBookHippie @Karisa I‘ve read a couple via IRL Bookclubs and although not my genre they are great fun and well written. Even Fraiser mentioned them time to time on episodes. 3w
IndoorDame @vlwelser a Liz book would be so fun! I did hear there actually may be a Polly book though 😃 3w
mcctrish Grandmas for the win! And I hope there are more books ❤️❤️❤️ 3w
AmyG @IndoorDame OOOOOO a Polly book! 3w
TheBookHippie @AmyG RIGHT?! I saw that too! I hope so! 3w
Sargar114 I forgot about Asher, I wonder if there will be a love square (?) between him, Bob, and the ex. I just love her style and this works so happy to be back in it. Plus LA as a character is wonderful. 3w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 ooooo 🔲👀 I too love LA as a background . 3w
Larkken I enjoyed the Sayers mention having only recently discovered her myself! Also enjoyed Nina‘s pushy but hilarious take on what to read next and why Gaudy Night was the Wrong Choice. (This is why ppl don‘t ask me for book recs…) 3w
Larkken I am also really liking the audiobook, very soothing, and at least partly bc I think it is the same narrator that does the Tea Monk and robot books! 3w
julieclair I have been heard/read Dorothy L Sayers mentioned several times recently. I think it's a sign I need to read one of her books. 🤔😆 3w
Catsandbooks @vlwelser I like the banter too. I've found myself laughing out loud a few times! 3w
mollyrotondo This quote! 😂 I don‘t agree but some people need this in order to move on from an ex so to each their own 😂 but I‘m definitely enjoying the humor. I like this author a lot. I also hope Asher and Polly become a thing since they seem to be clicking 😆 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick My grandma might encourage that sort of break up behavior if I ever find myself single. Reminded me of the song New Rules by Dua Lipa. It's not for everyone, but I'm sure the confidence boost one might feel from getting some so quickly has its benefits. I am picking up on the Polly/Asher attracting vibes, but if they hit it off, does that mean Polly doesn't get her own book? 2w

Laura‘s mom…
Oy
Yikes
We keep getting these 👀
The grandma …

I assume someone has a good mother ?

I didn‘t I have three best friends they didn‘t either but it exist right ? 🤣😵‍💫🤣🙃

IndoorDame My unofficial adopted mom was the best so I know they‘re out there ❤️ 3w
LaraReads 🙋🏻‍♀️ I‘m very close to my mother. But, luckily I live a little ways away from her. My older sister gets the “meddling overbearing” part of her since they live in the same town. She might disagree. 3w
AmyG The mother, to me, explains an awful lot about Laura. I know there are good Moms out there. Somewhere. 3w
See All 34 Comments
Karisa I‘m sure those of us that are parents are nothing like that… 😂 I‘m with @LaraReads a little distance does wonders for me and my mom too. Although my brother who lives closer gets all free babysitting and weekday meals… 3w
TheBookHippie @Karisa my daughter told me I had to live to be 110..and since she is a mom now I think I‘m in the clear 🤣😵‍💫 my son is 16 … jury still out 😅 3w
vlwelser My mum is fine. But we don't live in the same state. If she wants to be annoying she has to do it on the phone. 3w
LaraReads @Karisa yes! Exactly that. Both of those things make me jealous of my sister at times. But I wouldn‘t trade places with her for anything! And I‘m sure my 18 year old daughter thinks I‘m nothing like an overbearing meddling mom. 🤪 3w
mcctrish My mom was a good mom, my MIL not so much. She‘s still around so I‘ve lost the balancing out. As a mom myself apparently I have good days and bad 🤣🤣( I did just buy my oldest some pants so I‘m holding steady at good right now) 3w
TheBookHippie @LaraReads my daughter became a mother then called and apologized for being a handful 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I‘m so sorry mom…😅🙃🤣 3w
LaraReads @TheBookHippie that‘s fantastic! Looking forward to that day! 😬☺️ 3w
TheBookHippie @LaraReads Mr Book Hippie fairly certain at 12-14-17-19-years old (for her)there would just be bodies in the kitchen when he arrived home 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😅 3w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser 🤣🤣🤣👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 3w
Karisa @LaraReads My daughter‘s 18 too! First year away at college has her loving me more than ever—it‘s so great! 3w
LaraReads @Karisa awww yay! That is definitely something to look forward to then! Mine is a senior (October baby) and so just a few more months. But that gives me hope 😂 3w
LaraReads @TheBookHippie 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that‘s hilarious! Oh how lucky we parents are! New buddy read discussion, would we help bury the bodies & where? 😵😵😵😵🤣🤣🤣 3w
TheBookHippie @Karisa Yes that fixes lots of things the college 🤣. 3w
TheBookHippie @LaraReads EXACTLY also I‘d raise 100 boys over one girl 🤣🤣😅😵‍💫👀🤷🏻‍♀️ 3w
TheBookHippie @LaraReads I have very strong lawn and leaf bags 👀 3w
LaraReads @TheBookHippie yes!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 The good bags! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 You are cracking me up! 😂😂😂😂 3w
Sargar114 Oye the mother. But gotta love a quirky grandma 3w
Read4life I know I‘m super lucky. My siblings are 15-17-19 years older than me. I‘m the baby & was like an only child. My parents retired when I was still in school. They were both 2 of my best friends & still are. They moved from NJ to NC 5 years after I did. My husband knew he had 5 years to get them to move or we were moving back to NJ. They live 10 minutes away from us and it‘s fantastic. My kids seeing our relationship helped a lot. 3w
Read4life I love that my kids spent so much time with their grandparents growing up and still just ‘drop in‘ regularly to hang out with them. I don‘t have to meddle because just like I was with my mom, both of my kids share a lot. Maybe too much sometimes? 🤣🤣 3w
julieclair I was blessed with a wonderful mom... and dad. I know how very lucky I was. 3w
TheBookHippie @julieclair Truly ♥️♥️♥️ how wonderful. 3w
TheBookHippie @Read4life my kids are 18 yrs apart. 3w
Read4life @TheBookHippie I love the age difference. You? 3w
TheBookHippie @Read4life it wasn‘t a choice 🤣🙃 I would have them close together -if I got to chose, however they both needed to be only children -so there‘s that, I‘m looking forward to empty nest -38 plus years of active parenting is enough. Having a baby instead of finishing menopause was a hoot. He keeps us young and is thankfully the sweetest child (teenager). My grandson is 9. So my son is closer in age to him. 🙃 3w
IndoorDame 38 years of parenting! I think you deserve some ridiculous acknowledgment for that! 👏👏👏And a fabulous reward! Rare book allowance? 3w
Catsandbooks My mom is pretty great overall, but it wasn't until I went away to college that we had a much better relationship. I know her raising two girls as a single mom was not easy. 🤪 3w
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame 🤣🙃💯I‘m at year 35 now three years or 2025 actually June the kiddo graduates highschool😅😵‍💫 phew…. Yes -I would like a trophy 😆 3w
Read4life @TheBookHippie I can relate somewhat from the other side. My mom thought she was going through menopause when… Surprise! Baby #4 in her 40s with 2 kids in HS & 1 in college. 3w
TheBookHippie @Read4life yup my daughter went to college and well … her brother arrived 🤣💙 3w
mollyrotondo My mom and I have a very close relationship. We go to Disney World together for our mother/daughter trips multiple times a year. She‘s the best. Always worries about me and my brother just because she‘s a great mom who wants us to have everything we want. I get my stress and anxiety from her but we have each other to help ease those anxieties. So grateful to have her because I see what others go through with moms who don‘t put their kids first. 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I have a good mom & a good, if slightly enabling, grandma. Gram was one of my earliest best friends because she babysat my brother & I. My mom doesn't harp on me or question my life choices. I think I also didn't need a lot of parenting growing up, so we're friendly & can hang out, gossip, shop, but we live about 3.5 hours apart & she's not a big phone talker. Sometimes I go a month between talking, though I text or FB with my dad sometimes. 2w

Bob 👀 gardener smells of cedar & lemon
Laura‘s type 👀
Beautiful gardens yes!

Laura thinks she‘s ugly
Bob thinks she‘s gorgeous
Hmm

Roses arrive from Laura‘s ex via her mom
What is wrong with people 🤦🏻‍♀️😵‍💫😩🤷🏻‍♀️

Are we going to have a love triangle
Or 🎶he loves her but she loves him but he loves somebody else you just can‘t win ??? 🎶

Thoughts ??

LaraReads Hmm is right. Descriptions are strange. They are both the most beautiful things the other has seen, but both think they themselves are ugly/not worthy? Seems strange to me. But for some reason I don‘t see a love triangle. She seems very over the ex-fiancé. But, feelings change. 3w
IndoorDame I hate that I find the simultaneously disinterested but meddling mother trope so recognizable from life 🤣🤣🤣 3w
LaraReads @IndoorDame Ha! So true! 3w
See All 24 Comments
AmyG I don‘t think it‘s strange they both find themselves unattractive. Perhaps they just both have had a past that led to a bit of low self esteem. Lauras mother could have led to that. She seems like a piece of work. I agree with @LaraReads …she seems very over the fiancee. 3w
LaraReads @AmyG very good point 3w
Karisa @IndoorDame It does show up a lot but also rings true. Laura‘s only lived there like two days! How often does her mom talk to her ex?! 3w
Karisa @LaraReads It does seem a little strange to me too. In our social media saturated world, they both seem oblivious to their attractiveness… 🤔 Of course, it‘s better to err on the humble side if the author wants us to root for them 😊 3w
vlwelser I'm so pumped about this book. It makes me feel all warm and fluffy. 3w
mcctrish @vlwelser me too! I‘m thankful for #sundaybuddyread making me savour it ❤️ maybe Laura‘s mother can run off with the ex-fiancé ?? handsome Bob will think he has competition for a while but he doesn‘t ( who doesn‘t love a gardener ? with beautiful flowers) 3w
vlwelser @mcctrish if another future mil runs off with a fiancé, @TheBookHippie is probably going to throw her book. 3w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser ✊🏼💯 3w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser same. March is a good reading month! 3w
TheBookHippie @Karisa Daily probs 😵‍💫. 3w
mcctrish @vlwelser 🤣🤣🤣 3w
Sargar114 I 100% think the ex will randomly show up and create an awkward situation with handsome Bob even though she is absolutely not interested. But I look forward to her and Bob eventually getting together after he Ives out. 3w
Read4life The ex could show up and be a pest but I agree that she‘s over him. I get the beautiful/unattractive thing. My husband & kids get mad when I say something negative about how I look. But, I just don‘t see myself like they do most of the time. I think a lot of people judge themselves harder than others do. 3w
Larkken I tire of the “she‘s beautiful but can‘t see it” trope from romances. Pan. Though I do like these two together. 3w
julieclair If Laura and Handsome Bob don't end up together I will be heartbroken. 3w
Larkken @IndoorDame haha, awesome. It does ring true doesn‘t it… 3w
TheBookHippie @Larkken I just try not to throw up as a rule reading any romance or troupe like that 🤣👀😅😵‍💫 the long time years buddy peeps are just waiting for me to lose it and the snark to begin …. 3w
Larkken @TheBookHippie 😆 love it! Snark is an excellent sauce even for books I adore 🥰 3w
Catsandbooks @Larkken agreed! I hate this trope and am so over it! Like why are women letting other people, typically men, validate their worth 🤮 I just hope this book doesn't become that. All the comparisons and self body shaming need to go away. 3w
mollyrotondo I like Bob a lot but I really hope the fiancé doesn‘t come around even though I know he will ? and I also find the body shaming frustrating. But I‘m interested in seeing how it plays out for Laura. Nina Hill had some tropes in it but I thought the issues were still handled well so hopefully this book does the same. 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Ugh, I'm sure her mother will keep meddling & the ex will pay a visit. There'll likely be drama between Laura & Bob for lack of communicating, but it will hopefully be short-lived. 2w

Target
I don‘t get it
Am I too old
Please don‘t send hate mail
😵‍💫
Who loves target ?

Fun fact on Black Friday I stand in line with cart whilst daughter and her friend ( both in mid thirties) run around and fill it so when I get to front of line they need to be done 🤣🤣👏🏼✊🏼

LaraReads I get it! I can‘t go inside without just throwing anything & everything I see into my cart. So now I just do pickup orders. You are BRAVE to go there on Black Friday! 🫠 3w
IndoorDame I‘m not sure I get it either. Target seems, fine… 3w
AmyG I never had a Target near me so I don‘t go much. But when I do, it‘s always fun. 3w
See All 26 Comments
TheBookHippie @LaraReads they give me lots of coffee but it‘s quite an adventure I also take a book so no one talks to me in line 🤣😵‍💫🤫🙃 3w
LaraReads @TheBookHippie that‘s the best! 3w
Karisa @LaraReads Yep, I‘ll admit I‘m there once a week or so. Just convenient, clean, and has some cute stuff. Plus saves me trips to multiple stores when I need stuff for teaching, groceries, etc. The groceries are way cheaper than our local grocery store chains. 3w
TheBookHippie @Karisa my daughter says exactly the same thing. (She‘s Middle School admin) 3w
Karisa @TheBookHippie I‘m sure I‘d have a much different opinion of Target if I mainly connected it to Black Friday! 😂 My aunt and sister-in-law go every few years or so and I politely decline that chaos (I think they see it as a sport). 😂 3w
vlwelser I love Target. I got in an argument with a friend that decided curbside pick-up was the best thing. I told him he was missing the entire point of Target. I might be more of a Polly type Target shopper. Do I need shark socks or a new kitchen timer? Debatable. 3w
mcctrish I‘m Canadian so our brief run with target was never the same or long lived. Once upon a time I lived for a cross border run but it‘s been 4 years ? since I‘ve been in the US and I‘m not sure I‘m coming anytime soon. The LA library and/or Broadway will be the draw, not target 🤣🤣 3w
Sargar114 @LaraReads @vlwelser I am also on the Target train. Have a short list, get a Starbucks, and end up with a cart full of stuff you have to justify the reason for buying, lol 3w
Read4life @TheBookHippie I love that strategy! My 18 year old daughter loves Target. I don‘t get it. Even when I end up there, I don‘t need to browse. 3w
LaraReads @Sargar114 exactly! 3w
vlwelser @Sargar114 it's like retail therapy or something. I'm never in a bad mood when I leave. 3w
julieclair I love Target! @Sargar114 captures my Target persona perfectly. 👍 I used to live in suburban Atlanta and had 3 different Targets within a 15 minute drive from my house. I went to Target several times a week. Now I live on an island off the coast of South Carolina and I have to drive 40 minutes to get to the closest Target. It's a serious problem, lol! 3w
Larkken Ha! I find it soothing. No idea why, really. @vlwelser yesss I don‘t think I‘d use target if I couldn‘t go in and peruse the slightly quirky things on offer 😂 3w
Catsandbooks @vlwelser @Sargar114 @Larkken yes exactly! I love target! I love the atmosphere. I just walk around and peruse. I usually end up with lots of things for my niece and some cute things I didn't need but couldn't resist taking home. It's probably good that the nearest one is 45 minutes away otherwise I'd be there quite often. 3w
vlwelser @Catsandbooks I have a baby target less than a mile from my house. But there's a HomeGoods/Marshall's next to my grocery store which is half a mile in the other direction. Weirdly this keeps me out of trouble. 3w
vlwelser @Catsandbooks they don't sell babies. That's what we call the non super sized ones. 3w
Catsandbooks @vlwelser 😂😂😂 if only they did sell babies, that would totally solve a problem for me! And I love homegoods and all the other tjmaxx variety stores! Another one I can spend forever in 😂 3w
mollyrotondo I don‘t not like target lol but I also don‘t understand why people love shopping there so much lol ours is fine. But it‘s also too busy and I try to avoid being in a store for too long nowadays. But I do go in there when i need something I know they have and I don‘t need a whole grocery order from Stop n Shop or Costco. They have Yasso bars so that‘s my one main motivation for going in there 😂 3w
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo 🤣🤣🤣 thrifting yes, traditional stores no, but I‘ve not done too much stores in general since COVID . 3w
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie yes! I like going into the small stores around me but the large chain stores that are always so busy I try to just quickly go in and out if I have to since COVID lol 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I like them but I'm not leaving with two cart-loads every trip. We go most weekends for groceries since their household essentials tend to be cheaper there than grocery stores. I do like their quality of home goods (& customers) better than Walmart, but their clothes haven't been great the last few years. Just because my nana wore a Prarie-style dress and popped out 15 kids, doesn't mean my guy and I find it sexy. 🤣 2w
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I always think of Charles Manson girls when I see those dresses👀🤷🏻‍♀️😬😵‍💫 2w
DebinHawaii I am a fan but really only go when I need something or after a hair appointment. I usually come away with a few things I didn‘t need or think I needed. 😉 Their prices are better than the grocery & drugstores around me & I have an affinity for the section in front (used to be the $1 Spot but I think they changed the name) for seasonal fun stuff. 2w

Nina!!!!

Think you can read this without reading Nina first?
We read Nina quite a bit ago I didn‘t relook at it 🙃

At any rate I‘m glad to see her again 🧡

AmyG I think you can read this without reading the Nina Hill book. If anything, it may want you to go back and read Nina‘s story. 3w
LaraReads Yes! I am! I didn‘t know it was a 2nd book until I looked into it. But didn‘t have time to go back & read Nina. Like @AmyG says, I look forward to reading Nina after this. 3w
IndoorDame I bet you can. I saw a video Waxman made on why she reused characters, and it seems like she‘s less interested in traditional sequels and more interested in hanging around with her side characters some more and getting to know them better 3w
See All 19 Comments
Karisa @IndoorDame I like that concept! It is a sweet world she‘s built too. Nina seems a tad annoying as a side character in this book though 🫢. Maybe it‘s just me—I liked her in the first book more. 3w
TheBookHippie @Karisa she IS annoying in this book 😵‍💫🤣 3w
vlwelser I feel a very strong urge to reread Nina. But this is happening first. 3w
mcctrish I read Nina a while ago and part of me was “give me more Nina “ but she‘s okay to stay in the periphery if she‘s going to be annoying 🤣🤣 I like the idea of characters popping in and out of books, they feel even more like people I know 3w
Karisa @mcctrish Yes! It feels more real with characters still existing from book to book 3w
Sargar114 I loved this world the last time, so I‘m happy to be back in it but in a different capacity. Prior to opening it up I didn‘t realize it was a “sequel” but it absolutely works as a standalone. @IndoorDame I love that idea and would love to see more authors embrace it. 3w
Sargar114 @Karisa @TheBookHippie I agree, but then again I feel like Nina is kinda that way especially because she doesn‘t really care too much how other people feel about her so she‘s gonna be who she is 3w
Read4life @Karisa I agree. If I hadn‘t read Nina first I don‘t think I‘d like her nearly as much. I‘m glad I‘m not the only one finding her annoying at the start of this one. 3w
julieclair I haven't read Nina! But that hasn't seemed to be a problem so far (unless I'm missing out on stuff and don't even realize it, lol). I do intend to read Nina... she has been on my tbr forever... so I guess now I'll consider her to be a prequel! 3w
Catsandbooks I haven't read Nina either and had no idea that this was a sequel of sorts. I actually don't find her that annoying but more got the vibe that she's authentically herself and doesn't care what others think. 3w
TheBookHippie @Catsandbooks if it helps I didn‘t know either I picked it because we like this author 🤣🤣🤣 I try not to read too much about the books I pick. 3w
mollyrotondo So relieved I‘m not the only one who find Nina annoying in this book 😂 I loved her in her own book and I would love to have more of her in this one but the little bit we get is super one note. She mostly just tells everyone trivia facts which does not do her Justice. But I love that Waxman is exploring other characters in the same world. I always find this so fun when an author stays in the same world without it being a traditional series. 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I think these are interconnected but not that you need to read Nina first. I do hope Nina gets less annoying as we go. Perhaps she was vaguely annoying in her book until she got comfortable with everyone. I'm optimistic that she is just awkward with new people. (Maybe I should scroll through our chats.) 2w
DebinHawaii Late to the party although I did the reading & I‘m reviewing week one questions before I go to the week two discussion. This book makes me want to reread Nina because as we are meeting characters I am having a hard time remembering whether some of them were in the first book or not—it‘s not a big issue though. I did find Nina a bit annoying on the sidelines with her main character energy but it seems to be improving. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (edited) 2w
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii I‘ve gone back and forth to reread it .. 2w
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick duh yes scroll through our chats!!!!! why didn‘t I think of that? 2w

Polly at bookstore
Takes Laura home
To
Hancock Park
Where there are SEVERAL people living
Maggie landlord
Libby Anna Bob
Wow
Thoughts on the living space
On Polly??

https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/celebrity-history-los-angeles-hancock-...

AmyG I love all of this. Polly, the house, the people living there. They all seem so lovely and kind. 3w
LaraReads I think this house sounds so fun. I would love to stay in it as a B&B. 🤣 It‘s a very neat concept. 3w
IndoorDame I like to think sometimes real life is kind and fortuitous just like this 💗 3w
See All 20 Comments
Karisa Perusing through the home photos—wowza! We have family in LA area and just about everyone with a yard has little homes in back or rooms for rent. Just so expensive. Laura really lucked out meeting Polly! Polly is so fun and quirky. The battle over the affections of Daisy the pug is funny. Seems like a romance brewing for Polly and Maggie‘s son?? 3w
vlwelser I love Polly. 3w
mcctrish I think the house sounds lovely and the people too. it sounds like the family Laura needs. 3w
TheBookHippie @Karisa my LA friends live in a back house and the others Koreatown apartment . We have family by San Fransisco not cheap either!!! 3w
Sargar114 I love it. It‘s reminding me of the living situation in a previous sundaybuddyread 3w
Read4life I love getting to know Polly better. Prior to starting this book I read book 1 and loved it. The house and the characters in it are fantastic. 3w
julieclair I think Polly is a hoot! And I agree with @Karisa that a romance may be in the cards for Polly and Asher. 3w
Larkken I want to hear more about Maggie! I love a self-actualized older woman who doesn‘t need a relationship, and could use a Waxman-style cozy just about her - though I guess she does mainly romance and I dunno if I need that for her? 😆 3w
TheBookHippie @Larkken 👏🏼💯👏🏼 I agree. I love Maggie. 3w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 yes I thought if that as well! 3w
IndoorDame @Larkken yes! Loving Maggie! 3w
Catsandbooks I like all the people in the house, especially Maggie 3w
Sargar114 Agreed @Larkken I would love to read that! 3w
mollyrotondo @Sargar114 this book also brings me back to We Met in December. Very similar situation. 3w
mollyrotondo I like this concept for a book, but I definitely can‘t picture this happening in the real world. It‘s a book world thing lol Laura went from small apartment that catches fire to a huge house in one of the most expensive parts of LA? That is definitely a sign that her luck is changing. But I do love Polly. I‘m glad we are getting a lot of her in this book. 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Polly is a trip! Maggie seems to bring the "cool mom" energy. Libby & Anna are just set dressing at this point. I did pick up on sparks between Polly and Asher. Because I read this in a plane, I didn't research the neighborhood. This is great and more opulent than I pictured. It's probably my east coat mentality making it smaller & darker, but artsy. I picture lots of throw rugs & blankets around. 2w

Laura Costello
Apt burns down arrives at bookstore 😱
Full of scars from a bad accident two years ago suffering PTSD
Broke off engagement
Lost it seems or healing still?
What do you think of her ?
Brave to come to LA to do grad school??

AmyG I like her alot. I think she is still healing from the accident and her break up. I get why she wanted to move far away. 3w
LaraReads She is very endearing so far. Nervous, unsure of herself. But I think she‘s quite strong underneath some of that trauma! 3w
IndoorDame I think getting far away from her family and her ex was a fabulous decision! 👏👏👏 3w
See All 17 Comments
Karisa I like her too. I agree with @LaraReads that she must be stronger than she seems by moving across the country for grad school. Sometimes it reads like magical realism all her troubles though (serious car accident, apartment fire within weeks of moving, minor car accident first ride home with Handsome Bob) as if she‘s cursed. 3w
TheBookHippie @Karisa I thought the same thing however I‘ve had periods of life like that. 😵‍💫 3w
mcctrish @Karisa I agree with all of this 3w
vlwelser She seems brave but also lacking confidence. 3w
LaraReads @Karisa It does seem if she‘s a little cursed at the moment. 3w
Sargar114 I also like her. She‘s incredibly brave. I‘m sure it‘s also easier (while harder) to move on by completely changing her surroundings. Ripping off the band-aid so to speak…and then even more so with the apartment fire. Just forced to start fresh! 3w
Read4life I like her. She‘s brave but has self doubt. She‘s such a real character. It seems like Waxman does a really good job of keeping characters genuine. They could be anyone you might meet in your everyday life. 3w
julieclair I like and admire her. She is still healing, but bravely trying to get her life back on track. I'm so glad she has landed among a bunch of nice people. 3w
Larkken I like her and am impressed with how well she sets boundaries for herself with her family and friends, and hope she can learn to set some with her own self doubt talk! I think she def has some healing left to do 3w
Catsandbooks I agree that it was a good decision for her to move away and start fresh. She clearly has a lot of healing to do. One thing I don't like though is her self body shaming. All the measurements and comparisons she was doing had a big no from me. I'm tired of the trope where a female doesn't see her worth until someone else, usually a male, validates her. I hope this doesn't end up being that. 3w
mollyrotondo @Read4life I also like how Waxman seems to create real characters. I loved Nina Hill because she was so real. So far I‘m looking this new character. She is strong even though she has been hurt and suffers from PTSD and still lets her fear rule her when it comes to driving. But it takes so much strength to leave your family and move somewhere totally new and fulfill a goal you‘ve made for yourself. Not a goal your mom has for you. 3w
mollyrotondo @Catsandbooks I also was frustrated by the body shaming. I hope the fact that Bob likes her doesn‘t become all about the body image. 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I like Laura so far. It's not easy moving away from home, especially cross-country and alone. She may be having a string of bad luck, but she certainly walked into the right bookstore. I hope she sees her worth and learns to love her strong body, and it'll be even better if it isn't just because Bob likes it. 2w

Karisa Looks like my kind of church! What a wonderful place to visit! Thanks for sharing about the pub quizzes too. Sounds like the book will have some scenes in those soon. I‘m wondering if Laura‘s immersive science upbringing is going to help her shine on the trivia team? 3w
TheBookHippie @Karisa The tour is amazing !!! (Library) I spent a day there ♥️♥️♥️ I‘m wondering too if she‘ll help the trivia team! 3w
TheBookHippie @LaraReads 🙃 well 2019 me anyways 👀 3w
mcctrish I, of course, went to LA before I read Susan Orlean‘s The Library Book and learned all about it‘s amazing history. It is on my travel list now, I‘m so envious of your trip ❤️❤️❤️ (edited) 3w
vlwelser So fun. I love the pics. 3w
Karisa @mcctrish She did an interesting podcast episode about a section of her writing from that book: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2v0Pup3n1Q5cR1NWFKWMcz?si=W6gZb01nS7OUjQlx-dmED... 3w
TheBookHippie @mcctrish I took the tour twice one was all about the book! Which is why I did two 🤣🤣🤣 I‘ve not read the book it still sits here in my TBR PILE 😵‍💫 3w
mcctrish I would totally do the book now as audio and my gosh, I‘m even more envious 🤣🤣 3w
mcctrish Thank you @Karisa I will listen for sure 3w
mcctrish Oh thank you Christine @TheBookHippie 3w
TheBookHippie @mcctrish ♥️♥️♥️ 3w
Sargar114 @TheBookHippie have you read The Library Book? It‘s so good, basically the history the LA library system. 3w
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 it‘s been on my shelf since it‘s pub date 🤣🤣♥️👀🤷🏻‍♀️ 3w
Catsandbooks Very cool! 3w
mollyrotondo Wow this is gorgeous! They do an in person tour? I need to add this to my travel destination list! I love visiting libraries!! 3w
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo yes -in person and it is really thorough and different guides have different stories it‘s a lot of fun and I learned so much. 3w
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie oh I love this! This is definitely something I‘ll plan when I do my next west coast trip! Thank you! 3w
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I took notes and the lady was laughing saying ah another student of life 👀♥️. 3w
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie 😂 I love that! I‘m definitely a student of life too. I love signing up for tours especially in areas right in my own backyard because there‘s so much we can learn! 3w

AmyG I picture the bookstore as a small, indie one. Very cute. 3w
LaraReads Love this! Love going to bookstores in any city I visit! Would love to visit these in LA. Agree with @AmyG small quaint bookstore in my mind. ❤️ 3w
Karisa 💗💗💗 Bookstores are the best, especially independent ones. I love when they show up in books too. A bookstore near the beach sounds heavenly. I was just checking on one of my favorites in Morro Bay and glad to see it‘s still there (planning a trip this summer with family). Books + ocean, what could be better? 3w
See All 14 Comments
mcctrish I love bookstores ❤️ when we travel I always have one on my list to see and to buy a book from to read while I‘m away. A bookstore by the beach is life goals 3w
vlwelser I try to visit bookstores when I travel, and buy books by local authors. It's a fun little quest. 3w
Sargar114 @Karisa My grandparents lived in Morro Bay, it‘s one of my favorite spots. Haven‘t been there in years but I love it! ❤️ (edited) 3w
Karisa @Sargar114 It‘s so low key and peaceful there. My sister-in-law and I are trying to get the kids together there each summer for a little r and r. We went last summer and would like to make it a tradition 3w
Catsandbooks @vlwelser I make a list of local bookstores when I travel too! So fun! 3w
Catsandbooks I actually have a dream of owning a bookstore one day. I'd love to have cats there too that you can adopt, so I'd work with local rescues and shelters. It would have a little cafe too for drinks and pastries. And I'd host events for the community. 3w
TheBookHippie @Catsandbooks That is the dream I agree! 3w
TheBookHippie @vlwelser Same I always ask for local authors. 3w
mollyrotondo I love that we are back in this fictional bookstore. I love reading stories that center in and around a bookstore. I always make sure I stop in independently owned bookstores when I see one in a town or city I‘m visiting. It‘s always so fun to check out what they have that I don‘t normally see in a big bookstore like B&N. 3w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick When I travel alone for work, I try to visit an indie bookstore or regional chain that's not in NJ. If it's a road trip and I'm not limited to the weight of my suitcase, then even better. 2w
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick oh the suitcase struggles … 2w

What a week!So many real issues at the HS.
Poe is himself again- he has to take atenolol for his heart 2x a day- so far it takes both of us to get it down- even though it takes like fish oil! We are all so happy to have him back to his affectionate, rambunctious self!I decided it is a Jameson night, with ice, black cherry bitters & black cherries-Walnuts, cranberries, cheddar cheese on the side. A toast to you all! #nationaldayofunplugging
