A string of suspicious deaths points to a potential serial killer who has turned his eye toward Fjällbacka and her dark forests, where two children vanished decades beforeA local woman is killed in a tragic car crash, but it isn’t a clear-cut drunk driving case. The victim’s blood contains high alcohol levels, yet she rarely drank a drop. Meanwhile, a new television series begins shooting in Fjällbacka, and as cameras shadow the stars’ every move, tempers start to flare. When a drunken party ends with an unpopular contestant’s murder, all eyes turn to the cast and crew. Could there be a murderer among them? The ratings spike as the country tunes in to a real life murder mystery. Detective Patrik Hedstrom finds himself increasingly unable to focus on the strange circumstances of the first case, but what if that holds the key to a series of other unsolved cases across Sweden? Under the unforgiving media spotlight, Patrik tackles his most challenging investigation yet.

Have started the fourth Camilla Lackberg book which I am reading for #NordicNoir, trying to catch up. This is also available under the title The Gallows Bird.

Reading this as part of #24B4Monday Readathon.

Now at 8 hours 9 mins fir the Readathon.

EadieB @Andrew65 You're doing good at catching up. Only 2 behind in the Lackberg books. I should finish The Brethern today. I'm liking the book. I think it's interesting. But it is a slow read for me as I have been reading it all week. I am also working on my book decreasing project and that takes time too. My daughter is packing up her apartment and will start bringing her things home before the end of July. 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB That will be a big change for you both. I‘ve parked the Jussi Adler Olsen series at the moment, on,y read the first one and have had zero motivation to pick up the second one. Targeting the other two, now read three Kepler books and currently working on book 4 of Lackberg, hope to finish that over the weekend. 4y

In this 4th book about Erica and Patrik, we take part in their wedding planning. Ever since the event of the last book, Erica‘s sister Anna and her kids, have been living with them. I just wish there wasn‘t a time jump there.

The cases that need to be solved in this book, is a woman that was drunk while driving and a reality TV participant that is found dead in a dumpster.

I didn‘t see that ending coming.

Sweden. Tragic car crash. Woman is found dead. Reality TV show in town. Cast member dies. Cast/Crew is suspected. More bodies mount up. Chilly thriller with blood curdling horror. Hard to put down. Interesting characters. Lackberg has another winner. Looking forward to next book in series. Highly recommended to those who love mystery/thrillers.

Butterfinger We saw glimpses of Gosta's and Annika's pain. They are becoming "real". Melville too. I can't wait for next month's discussion. 4y
EadieB I like Lackberg's characters and we are learning more and more about the main characters in each book. 4y
AnneCecilie I sometimes feel like Läckberg is sometimes jumping over the big personal events in her characters life. Other than that, I like her writing style. @Butterfinger @EadieB 4y

Butterfinger I like the stories she creates. I want Erica to come back as a character equal to Patric. 4y
EadieB I like Lackberg's writing style. She has interesting characters and plotlines. I did enjoy the first book with Erica as main character too and wish she was more of a forefront character in the others. We can't get enough of Erica, I believe. 4y
AnneCecilie I agree with @Butterfinger and @EadieB, I want more of Erica and more of her when it comes to solving the crimes 4y

Butterfinger Wow! How convoluted. I thought the Hansel and Gretel book was brilliant by the author, not so smart of the murderers. I don't understand the reason behind 'calling cards'. It was just so sad, but could the natural mother have raised them without any traumatic effects? I doubt it. And the thing that bothered me, two stopped drinking cold turkey because of the guilt over killing someone. It reminded me of Flowers in the Attic. That strong attachment. 4y
EadieB Killing and leaving pages from Hansel and Gretel books seems to be about culprit with a strange childhood. 4y
AnneCecilie I never saw the twist coming. I thought Hanna‘s problems was about something completely different. Living the book pages made it possible to find them @Butterfinger @EadieB 4y

Butterfinger He's an arrogant person. But this incident makes him relatable. I think since he found his son, maybe he is starting to become more humble and appreciate Patric. I felt genuinely sorry for him. 4y
EadieB I never saw the con coming. I agree Mellberg is very arrogant. I don't know what he would do without Patric. I'm glad he's now in touch with his son, Simon. His life seems to be changing now that he has met Rose-Marie. 4y
AnneCecilie I didn‘t see the con coming, but there was something about the house buying in Spain that didn‘t feel right to me. Up until that point Rose-Marie brought out a different side of him. @Butterfinger @EadieB 4y

Butterfinger She needs a support group and she has known Dan a long time. Those four have a strong connection. I'm happy for her. Dan doesn't seem to have any baggage/guilt over his last affair, just over the end of the marriage. His girlfriend and baby were brutally murdered. It should not be swept under the rug. In my opinion. 4y
EadieB I'm glad Anna is free from Lucas and I think Dan would be good for her. 4y
AnneCecilie I‘m happy for Anna and her kids that they are free from Lucas. Dan seems to do her good, and he seems to bring out the laughing side of her, after everything she‘s been through she needs that. @Butterfinger @EadieB 4y

Book 4, the weakest in my opinion, not because of the writing, but because of reality TV and “stars†visiting town. This subject and the people just make me 🤮 The new police colleague is in town, Mellberg falls in love, Anna and the kids living with E&P, what could go wrong? A local woman is drunk driving and dies, or is it murder? The lives of people have moved forward, a bit too fast once again for my taste, while some stand still. 3,5 stars

Tove_Reads I am annoyed how Läckberg jumps over super important things and life is normal again. Too many liberties if you as me. 4y
Tove_Reads Discussion April 12, so no hurry! 4y
AnneCecilie I was going to pick this up at the library two weeks ago, only to find it closed indefinitely, just like everything else in Norway (except food and pharmacy). We didn‘t get any pre warnings. So I‘m not sure when I will get to this. 4y

Tove_Reads @AnneCecilie 🙠We did get to know beforehand. I knew before that already, so went to the library before people went there in panic. Also made my dad pick up a new library card from another library so he‘d get lots of e-material. You can‘t get it as an ebook? 4y
AnneCecilie @Tove_Reads I‘m not sure. But I don‘t have the best experience with ebooks. I‘ve read one and didn‘t remember as much as I would have liked. Need to check out what the library has. 4y
Andrew65 @AnneCecilie @Tove_Reads I think shut libraries will lead to an upsurge in ebook reading and buying. Took me a while to adapt but happy reading in any form and can change size of font with ebooks! 4y
AnneCecilie @Tove_Reads @Andrew65 Not available as an ebook, so then I just have to hope that the library isn‘t closed for too long. Other than buddy reads, I have enough books to last me a long time. 4y
Tove_Reads @AnneCecilie â˜¹ï¸ Since it‘s written in one of the official languages here we naturally have it as an ebook as well. We can all just hope for the best. Our libraries have started doing alternative stuff, and adding more ebooks is one thing. Also putting old books outside the libraries, no need to take them back. 4y

Continuing my TBR project:
This is one the oldest selection on my TBR list - Originally added April 10, 2016.

Somehow I lost track of this series as this is Patrik Hedström 4 and I see there are now 10 in the series. Yikes! I am glad I found it in my TBR to remind me. I am definitely putting the other six on my list. Camilla Läckberg is one of my favorite crime novelists.

In an interview with bookreporter.com, Lackberg enjoys Stieg Larsson and Agatha Christie. She also recommends Michael Connelly.

I enjoy her novels. I have not read Larsson. In fact, Lackberg is my first author when it comes to Nordic Noir.

More cursing than in previous works, but twenty year old reality TV stars were minor, yet crucial, characters. Mysteries are not my favorite genre so the person I thought would be the killer turned out to be the killer, nevertheless, I was not prepared for the huge twists close to the end.

I've been reading Scandinavian mysteries for a long time - well before Stieg Larsson came on the scene. Camilla Lackberg is one of my favorites. We have a giant map of Sweden and I enjoy figuring out where the stories take place. Maybe our next trip to Sweden will include a side trip to Lund.

RachaelViolet Have you read any of Yrsa Sigurdardottir's books? I really enjoy her work :) 8y
Pandalibrarian Yes! Love her books too :-) 8y
