pick8/10 - I feel like this was a fun side quest in reading. I love a good graphic novel. The story gives very “Heathers” vibes. I actually enjoyed it down to the plot twist. pickWhat if Buffy had accepted Cordelia‘s offer of friendship — & then discovered that Cordy & crew owed their popularity to a beastly little secret? This book is *sort of* like that. It has that same “high school is horrific” vibe.
It also has the moral ambiguity that comes with being a teen, figuring out your own opinions about what‘s right & wrong while developing your sense of self. Of course, given the genre, this is all amped up to 11. 👇🏻
pickI loved this graphic novel!! Since there‘s black on the cover, it also covers Oct 1‘s prompt of ‘black‘. If you‘re a fan of Heathers or Teen Wolf, you‘d love this book. And it‘s sapphic!

pick4.25 stars- I liked the commentary on the current social climate around sexual assault and the dig at Brett Kavanaugh 😂. I didn't like how they portrayed the girl who was out of eating disorder treatment as “insufferable“. When the main characters had their own sort of eating disorder. But overall it was a great book.
so-soI was a bit disappointed reading this graphic novel, I had heard great things about it. I actually bought it as a gift for my sister but wanted to read it before I gave it to her. I'm glad I did because I think it would be triggering for her so I'll be sending her a different book.
I hoped this would focus more on sisterhood & power over men, rather than peer pressure & the corruption of power. Still a decent read, just not what I was looking for.

I love absolutely everything about this graphic novel! A pack of fierce girl werewolves who hunt and eat all the rapey boys. SO MUCH LOVE! ?❤
so-soI wanted to like it, but I only kinda did. The clique was awful to each other, why would anybody want to spend time with these jerks, who actually gets sucked into the cool kids the very first day at a new school…I had some issues. I like the love story, and I liked Heidi (minor character) and the chem teacher. This reminded me of Lumberjanes - in that there‘s a rabid following but it didn‘t work for me.
pickBecca is the new girl at school and is surprised when the popular clique recruits her--they're a werewolf pack who need a 4th member. They prey on predators, satisfying their hunger by eating shitty guys. Things get more morally grey when one of their boyfriends is killed. Great vintage horror vibes in the art & storytelling. Also: a cute coming out, sapphic romance, and a complex mother-daughter relationship. Strong vibes of The Craft and Buffy.
pickI really enjoyed this graphic novel that I found because of @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian - it kind of reminded me of the Craft in a way but with Werewolves- love the female empowerment too!
pickThis graphic novel managed to be very socially astute, while still remaining entertaining and having great character development. The new girl in school gets taken in by the popular girls (who also happen to be vigilante werewolves). They only kill the creeper boys, until maybe they don't. Will the squad survive the FBI, rival werewolves, and each other?

panI wanted to like this. But the bullying and judgement in this clique was so harsh. Yes people talk this way among friends, but it felt wrong to see it on paper.
The characters were not fleshed out. The plot was interesting but I think this could have been written better. But the worst part? Becca got rid of her awesome Sloan from Ferris Bueller fringe jacket due to peer pressure and I was pissed. That jacket was awesome.

What do you get when you take Heathers, Valley Girl, and Clueless, throw them in a mixing bowl and add some supernatural elements? You get Squad. This was such a fun graphic novel. It takes place currently, but between the language elements, the dress and attitude, the other references perfectly fit. Squad takes a girl who is new, and feels left out and makes her into someone popular. ⬇
pickThe new girl is adopted by the not-so-nice populars only to find out they've selected her as the newest addition to their werewolf pack. It seems like a sweet deal at first, going after the guys who prey on girls and being unstoppable. But things get sticky fast-- especially since not all of these girls really have each other's backs.
Some discussion of size / dieting/ food that i don't think got the traction it should've for a YA graphic novel.
