"I did something terrible Grace. I hope you can forgive me ..." Grace hasn't been the same since the death of her best friend Charlie. She is haunted by Charlie's last words, and in a bid for answers, opens an old memory box of Charlie's. It soon becomes clear there was a lot she didn't know about her best friend. When Grace starts a campaign to find Charlie's father, Anna, a girl claiming to be Charlie's sister steps forward. For Grace, finding Anna is like finding a new family, and soon Anna has made herself very comfortable in Grace and boyfriend Dan's home. But something isn't right. Things disappear, Dan's acting strangely and Grace is sure that someone is following her. Is it all in Grace's mind? Or as she gets closer to discovering the truth about both Charlie and Anna, is Grace in terrible danger? There was nothing she could have done to save Charlie ...or was there? A compelling, gripping psychological thriller perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train, I Let You Go, and The Girl With No Past. ⭐️⭐️ I‘m jus going to say it. I did not like this book. It started off slow. It started to gain momentum so I thought it would get better. But then the reveals started coming and none of them made any sense. The whole thing left me with a knot in my stomach, giving me anxiety for such a horrible payoff. It just wasn‘t my type of story. This was my #bookspinbingo No. 12 pick and it gave me a BINGO

TheAromaofBooks At least it's off the list & yay bingo!!! 3y
mollyrotondo @TheAromaofBooks I‘m glad I read it because it was one of my Kindle books I bought for $1.99 a few years ago. I am going to try to read at least one more thriller because I can‘t end my thriller month on such a low note 😂 3y
TheAromaofBooks haha that's fair. I have sooo many Kindle books I've picked up for free or on the cheap & it's embarrassing how many of them I either bail on or give very low ratings to... like half the time I can't even figure out why I thought that book even sounded interesting! 3y
See All 7 Comments
mollyrotondo @TheAromaofBooks I know I rarely ever like the books I got for cheap on Kindle. That‘s why I have stopped buying them. But I still have so many I haven‘t read. I‘m hoping to find one gem. Just one. 😂 3y
TheAromaofBooks Like a year ago I finally made a spreadsheet of them (spreadsheets are the answer to all my problems haha) because my other issue is that I hate reading books out of order if they are in a series, so my spreadsheet now lets me know if they're in a series & I can mark books off as I read them since my “read“ function doesn't always seem to work on Kindle. I put the star rating beside the title when I read them & I can't believe how many are DNF 😂 3y
mollyrotondo @TheAromaofBooks have you completed any series or DNF‘d the whole lot if one book is bad? 3y
TheAromaofBooks I figure if the first book is in the so-so range, I'll still give the second a try, because sometimes it takes a book for an author to find their footing. But if the first book is just genuinely so bad that I don't even want to finish it, I scrap the whole series. 3y

Enjoyed reading, but the storyline felt a little too far fetched. The main character perhaps a tad gullible. I thought I'd worked it out part way through. But, got it wrong!! It's obviously a first book, the story was a bit too stretched.

Week 1 check-in! I stayed up way too late last night finishing this book, it got pretty intense at the end and I couldn‘t put it down! This puts me on track for my one book a week goal for #BFCR2. I could have worked a little harder to hit my fitness goal for the week, but overall I‘m happy. We went on a long hike today, which was beautiful! If you look closely at the picture of mud, you can see bear tracks.

Day 1 of the #bookfitnesschallenge is in the books! Ha! See what I did there?! But seriously...l‘ve been on the fence about getting a fitness tracker. After my long hot walk today, I decided to go for it. I miss being able to track my steps each day. A new Fitbit will definitely help keep me on track!

BeckyandBooks @mcipher That‘s a good reason not to wear one! I had one a few years ago, but it died on me. Hopefully they‘re made better now...😬 @krayoncolorz Fair enough! My oldest is only 7, so he doesn‘t have one yet. Or else I‘d probably be using it! (edited) 5y

Perhaps I'm jaded from mystery thrillers, or perhaps the subtitle of this book set the bar too high: "A psychological thriller with a brilliant twist you won't see coming".

Grace is coping with the death of her best friend, Charlie, & distancing herself from her boyfriend, Dan, as she takes up drinking at home & abusing sleeping pills. Charlie's mother, blames Grace for her daughter's sudden death but is covering up a years old secret.

cathysaid I often think the phrase "psychological thriller" is overused, when "drama filled thriller" would be a better description. Those aren't interchangeable in my opinion. To me, a psychological thriller creates tension through examining the workings of a disturbed mind. But I suppose it's a matter of perception? ? 6y
mrozzz @cathysaid maybe but I agree with you. This was certainly trying to be psychological in casting doubts on the soundness of Grace‘s mind but it didn‘t quite get there in my opinion. 6y

Totally needed something a little lifetime style that I knew would have a decent ending. I liked it! I got pulled in so many different directions and for the life of me, I could not get what was going on till the ending.

Thus main character is driving me batty. She's absolutely stupid... Not to mention that this book is feeling more and more like a Lifetime movie.... Which isn't necessarily a good thing.

This is a good thriller for those into the genre. I have to say all of the characters in this book pissed me off with the exception of Grace's grandparents and Mrs. Jones the elderly neighbor. There was definitely a twist that I didn't see coming but it didn't knock my socks off. All in all, It is a great debut novel.

I did something terrible Grace. Please forgive me. ##what could this mean? Turns out, a lot. This novel is packed with twists, turns, and suspense on every page. And I loved it. But as with a lot of books, when I finished it I was infatuated with it but its gleam has been filled with time. Still a great book worth reading.

So looking pass the fact that I love a good Single White Female vibe, I did struggle with the beginning of this book. By the end though I liked it enough to recommend it to fellow book lovers who like this vibe as well. It's her debut novel so I think a solid first shot. I'd read her next one! For more see my blog! A Cautionary Tale…and of course, coffee.

This is me after staying up way too late reading The Sister last night. I'm a little over halfway and, while obviously I'm liking it enough to forego sleep, I also wanted to reach in and shake the protagonist. I haven't wanted to shake some sense into a character since Mae in Dave Eggers' The Circle! Fingers crossed I like the ending more than The Circle's! Also if you don't follow The Awkward Yeti on FB or Twitter, your life is incomplete 😁🤓😆

KrisConstantReader I felt the same way, it was ridiculous how blind the protagonist was to everything. I was sorry I wasted my time on this book but at least I didn't waste any money on it... 8y

tnorris @KrisConstantReader I'm to the part where Amy and Dan just went to his company dinner together because she was feeling sick 🤔🙄🙄🙄 I'm trying to hold out hope here because I like the whole Single White Female vibe to the story. But she seriously has to get a clue! 8y
KrisConstantReader @tnorris I hate to tell you, but it just keeps getting worse, lol. But you have to finish it, to at least finally get the whole story. This was seriously one of the most disappointing/worst books I've read in a long time. But, then again, there's tons of great reviews here and on Goodreads, so it's just my opinion. 8y
tnorris @KrisConstantReader yea, I definitely finish it and I don't expect her to get a clue anytime soon, but I'm hopeful when the whole story is reveals it won't make me want to bang the book again my head 😆😆 well my kindle 😁 but yea, so far I'm glad I didn't have to buy it. 8y
KrisConstantReader @tnorris glad you didn't have to pay for it, either! 8y

I didn't think the twist was all that shocking. Also the MC was frustratingly naive, and that naïveté was used to move the plot along. I give it a solid rating of: Meh.

I'm finding it difficult to say why I liked this book so much. The writing is solid but unexceptional; the storyline is interesting but not particularly unique. Somehow though, the author has created an absolutely compulsive page-turner and I was utterly hooked. Loved it!

It's really hard to believe that this was Louise Jensen's debut novel. It's a very well-written psychological thriller. It was a page turner with lots of twists and turns that I never figured out until they hit me in the face. The story is about a young woman (Grace) who suddenly loses her best friend (Charlie). It could have been a typical story on loss but Jensen takes us on a wild ride as we discover the facts behind what really happened.
