Little Secrets | Jennifer Hillier
From the author of Jar of Hearts, a mother driven to the edge by the disappearance of her son learns her husband is having an affair with the woman who might have kidnapped him. Two hundred and forty seconds. Thats how long it took for someone to steal Marin Machado's four-year-old son. Marin had the perfect life. Married to her college sweetheart, she owns a chain of upscale hair salons, and Derek runs his own company. They're admired in their community and are a loving family. Up until the day Sebastian is taken. A year later, Marin is a shadow of herself. The FBI search has gone cold. The publicity has faded. She and her husband rarely speak. The only thing keeping her going is the unlikely chance that one day Sebastian reappears. She hires a P.I. to pick up where the police left off, but instead of finding him, she discovers that Derek is having an affair with a younger woman. Kenzie Li is an artist and grad studentInstagram famousand up to her eyeballs in debt. She knows Derek is married. She also knows he's rich, and dating him comes with perks: help with bills, trips away, expensive gifts. He isn't her first rich boyfriend, but she finds herself hoping he'll be the last. She's falling for himand that was never part of the plan. Discovery of the affair sparks Marin back to life. She's lost her son; she's not about to lose her husband, too. Kenzie is an enemy with a face, which means this is a problem Marin can fix. But as she sets a plan in motion, another revelation surfaces. Derek's lover might know what happened to their son. And so might Derek.

This definitely kept me guessing throughout the whole book. There were a lot of twists. Some of them I didn‘t guess and some of them I did, but for the most part, I really liked this story. It felt very real to me in a lot of ways, especially the emotion that Marin goes through and the other characters when faced with so many difficult situations. Definitely a good thriller to keep you wondering what will happen.

This thriller had it all. Affairs. Kidnapping. Murder for hire. Spicy scenes. Plot twists. As a wife and a mother, reading this pulled so many emotions out of me as the story unraveled. Tears were actually shed. Loved this book!

Well this book title is certainly apt. I‘ll admit it took me a long while to really get into this as I couldn‘t see how all of it would come together, but once all the little secrets were revealed, I liked how everything fit and it made for a good story.

4 of 2023.
This book is about an affluent couple Derek and Marin whose son is kidnapped while they are at a market. The beginning of the story centers on the kidnapping but as Marin searches to find out what happened to her son, this book becomes so much more. Really enjoyed it. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Stayed up way past my bedtime to finish. I had The Who figured out pretty early but definitely didn‘t ruin the story for me. 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 It did make me realize how big my dear of someone taking my son is! 🫣

This is the first book of Hillier's that I've read and it won't be the last. Fast-paced and full of twists. I figured out who the bad guy was before it was revealed but was surprised by the other twists.

This one was pretty good, I enjoyed it and my heart was tugged on the way anything with child abduction does. There were a few times I was really frustrated with the book when it came to the mom. Also I think this book leads you to who the person is. It's not really a reveal more of like slowly guiding you to it. I still knew way before I think you were suppose to, but over all I enjoyed it. 4/5

A #pageturner if I ever read one. A devastating look into what happens when a child goes missing, into unrequited love, into what people will do for love, and into how relationships change. Marin just wants to find her son.

Finished my library e-book hold on this one because I couldn‘t put it down. I don‘t think it‘s the author‘s best book & I was a but disappointed that I had most all the the twists figured out early on but this was a crazy ride anyway & kept me engaged & turning the pages. The secrets aren‘t little, they are HUGE & although empathetic to the MC‘s trauma of losing her son while shopping at Seattle‘s Pike Place Market, I did want to shake her A LOT!

I went into this only knowing the first chapter, and it took turns I did not expect! Even the "reveal" had me surprised.
I liked all the characters, all of them flawed, and depending on the lighting, "good" and "bad." Makes it hard to dislike anyone truly- Hillier does a good job with making a reader empathize.

My first time reading this author as I was introduced to this book by an online review. A little departure from the books I'm used to and It started a little slow but I slowly got into this one. Some good twists and turns and I enjoyed the ending. Overall, a fun read.

Another one I started earlier this month and managed to finally finish this weekend.

I feel this had a compelling start but I quickly lost my interest when it appeard to follow along more with the infidelity storyline and left the child abduction as a side line. Fortunately the last little bit saved this one and the last 100 or so pages kept me wide eyed!

This was weirdly predictable but enjoyable. A woman loses her son in busy Pike Place Market days before Christmas and the novel is mostly about how she deals with that. And how her husband deals. And it's not pretty.

It is those who are closest to you that can hurt you the most.
Good writing and good plot. You won‘t much like any of the characters.
Sad book for anyone who has lost a child, regardless of how.

I was hesitant to listen to this since I was one of the few people who didn't like Jar of Hearts by this author...it ventured way too far into the unbelievable for me. But this book really came through for me...it felt believable and by the end, I was really rooting for these broken people...well, maybe not all of them. I'm really glad I gave this one a go because it surprised me in the best way possible.

This one was good! A mom's son goes missing and a year and a half later she finds out her husband is having an affair. While she may have lost her son, she is not going to lose her husband too. The story alternates between Marin, the main character, and her husband's mistress.

This one had multiple storylines but they all ended up tying together at the end.
