Beatrice was a 16 year old girl who lived in a world where there were 5 factions that separated the people..Dauntless, Abnegation, Amity, Candor and Erudite. Though she was neither of those, she was a Divergent who fitted all of the 5 factions. Where in this world being a divergent meant death. If you are interested in Dystopian then you will for sure like this book! The theme in this story is the value of our own identity and families.

MissYaremcio Great work Margaret! I so enjoyed this series! I just needed more on how the theme was established. 5/6 1y

“Becoming fearless isn‘t the point. That‘s impossible. It‘s learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.”
I always think about how people give the word fearless too much power, and makes it kind of impossible to reach because you‘re never going to be fear of your fears, you have to learn how to deal with it to conquer it and that‘s okay.

This is one of my first favorite books. I started reading either end of elementary or in middle school, and I knew that they were movies coming out and I was determined to read the book for because I know my parents have always told me the book is always better, and I wanted to test that theory. I think it‘s awesome when books that are like targeted towards like younger readers, turned into movies because it is a great way to get them motivated.

This is story of dystopian world where you are put into different groups at a certain age and you are with that category of people for life but the protagonist is divergent so she can fit with all of the categories

The Divergent Series is extremely popular because it makes you feel as if you are living the life of Beatrice.

The Divergent Series involves a futuristic society that is divided into 5 factions. Children grow up to choose a faction to be apart of based off of abilities and talents. The series encompasses speculative fiction as many of the elements in the book are unrealisitic and deal with powers.

“I want to be brave, and selfless, and smart, and kind, and honest.”

Four, speaking to Tris, regarding the virtues of factions.

I first thought of the Dauntless faction for the challenge “rooftop!! I‘m scared of heights!!

Which faction would you be? I took the quiz and mine would be Abnegation! It‘s spot on too!!

I‘ve been wanting to pick this series up again ever since I reread The Hunger Games series last year.

I have a strong suspicion that this year is going to be filled with quite a few rereads and series.

The chapters that I read today was about Tris (one of the main characters) passing the initiation of the Dauntless (the brave) and meeting new people. She begins to make friends through this little journey in a gigantic cave underground. This book has some comparisons with the Hunger Games series.

SF novel, Divergent, is another great piece of literature that I would love to include into my classroom library one day! Set in a futuristic, dystopian Chicago, factions are organized and citizens are divided by their lifelong virtue. Children, such as Trish, are raised until 16 and then are given the life-changing choice to either stay with their family or choose a new fate. #UCFLAE3414F19

TristanPool This book would best be presented in a LC for a similar reasoning to The Hunger Games, presenting key features and promoting a deeper understanding to the text. UDL 2.3 and EL 36 can help promote students understanding of the factions used while using a higher-order thinking process. 4y
TristanPool http://ymiclassroom.com/lesson-plans/divergentseries/ is a resource that can be used by teachers with several activities ranging from building on students‘ understandings towards each faction‘s virtues to seeing the conflict and change throughout the storyline. Small changes may be necessary towards each activity to ensure that the knowledge needed to be present in an elementary classroom is successfully formatted. (edited) 4y
Tinks Loved these books. I wouldn't mind reading them again when I find the time. Nice post. 4y

This SF novel is a great IR for the students who are above grade level. It leads you into this alternate view of living where someone is controlling everything you do, including your future. The books are part of a 4 book series that leaves you hanging on the tips of your toes wanting to read the next one! I'm sure once you have your students reading one book they will be begging for the next! Just as I did when I read the series. #ucflae3414f19

YesseniaN The link below provides classroom discussion guides and so much more: https://veronicarothbooks.com/classroom/
The UDL: Provide multiple means of Engagement through Develop self-assessment and reflection (9.3)
ESOL strategy: If you have a student who can read this level of text but struggles with some comprehension I suggest doing a book club center where at least one other student is reading the same book to discuss main events and key factors.

Wanted a different reference for #raven than Edgar Allen Poe. I could only think of two other books I‘ve read that have ravens. One is Divergent, when Tris gets her tattoos representing the family she left behind. #scarathlon @Clwojick #chillingphotochallenge

I think that this might be my favourite book! Divergent is about factions where when you turn 16 you get to choose your own faction. Now it‘s Tris‘ turn to choose. Tris finds out that she is divergent which could be life or death. She chooses dauntless and finds herself mixed with a lot of problems. In order to stay alive her and Four have to risk it all. The genre is science fiction. I recommend this book to people who love action.

MissYaremcio Well done Lina! I loved this book when I was your age!! Do you remember the difference between tone and genre? 5y

This SF novel is set in a futuristic, dystopian Chicago, society is organized into five factions. Each faction places value solely on a specific virtue, which its members work to cultivate throughout their lives. There is Abnegation,Amity,Erudite,Candor, and Dauntless. kkimmelman These activities would be great for students http://ymiclassroom.com/lesson-plans/divergentseries/. This book could be used as LC and UDL 2.3 could go well with the high level thinking this book can sometimes require. ESOL 36 would also be a great accommodation. #LAE3414sp19 5y

Pretty good, and the narrator did a great job. I knew what to expect - YA dystopian and there were really no surprises there. Interesting concept to divide the population by traits, and the Chicago backdrop was cool. But Lake Michigan as a marsh? Hmmmm. 😂

This SF series by Veronica Roth will always be one of my favorites! I really loved the first movie but the other ones disappointed me. However, at least I have these amazing books to always fall back on! This series will always be in my heart ❤️ If you love the dystopian world and want to look into Trice Prior‘s life after society is divided into five factions, than definitely give this book a read!

AmyPerezCubas For grades 6-8 and 9-12. There are a lot of activities where you can ask questions during each part of the story. There are also fun surveys your students can do that will actually put them into factions. What is the difference between selflessness and giving? 6y
