A Beautiful Blue Death is the first in the Charles Lennox mystery series.
Charles Finch's books are worth the read and improve as Charles Lennox's sleuthing skills become Sherlockesque.

I‘ve begun to read the Charles Finch series featuring the detective Charles Lenox. Set in the 19th Century, and largely in London, they‘re full of historical detail. A Beautiful Death is the 1st, a great mystery that begins with the death of a maid and ends when a investment fraud is revealed.

The 2nd in the series, September Society, is even better, revealing a conspiracy that began in the Sutlej Frontier in Punjab.

Try them, you‘ll like them

I‘ve been enjoying the recently written prequels to this series, so I decided to read the first in the series. It is the author‘s first book and while it does show promise, it is clear that it is a first book. For instance, there is a frequently mentioned character who is never actually introduced to the reader who I believe is in the book just to be another suspect. There are other inconsistencies as well. Between a pick and so-so. 3.5⭐️ #2019

Crazeedi I've read 3 or 4 of this series, it does get better. Now I have to go see which one I'm on! 5y
rretzler @Crazeedi Good to know! I do like the prequels, so I can tell Finch has grown as an author. I‘m definitely sticking with them. 5y
Crazeedi @rretzler I've read 5 I just checked! And I thought same as you for first one. I haven't read the inbetweeners, I usually just skip those! 5y

I‘ve had this on my TBR forever, and noticed it when I culled my list (from 600 plus to just over 300 - yay!) I got it from the library and found it pretty meh. The detective was one of those who does a lot of thinking about the case from his chair and then does a big reveal. I did like his secondary characters - they were fun!

I do love a good mystery but the cover art actually first drew me to this one. Looking forward to starting the Charles Lennox series.

Kinda lost focus at the end - story drifted. I was listening to it and truthfully, returned it with 15 min left. 😮 I did like the main characters and setting, so perhaps I'll give another audio book in the series a try.

[DELETED] 3803335244 I just did the same thing with my dragon book. I returned it with about half hour left, it was not good. Hopefully your next audio will be better! 6y

2017 #73 period mystery audio a mystery in Victorian England and you kind of have it figured out pretty quickly and think wow if only they had a cell phone a lot. Light, mindless, fluffy mystery that was well read.

This was a mixed bag. The mystery was fine. However the writing to me was rather stilted, and it took me much longer than usual to read. Maybe I prefer more action in my books? Even the relationships seemed staid to me. Be that as it may, I think I'll probably give the second book a try. #romantsy #osrbc

The first book in Charles Lenox #mysteries. Lenox is a #Victorian gentleman who likes solving crimes in his free time. It's an #easyread, not too intense mystery, a so-so plot. One thing I quite dislike is the contemporary language used in the dialogues and not the usual Victorian Britain #19thcentury English. #historicalfiction #quickread #murdermystery #bookseries

#booksthatmademehungry are the Charles Lenox series by Charles Finch. From butler served breakfast ("coffee, apple slices, and toast, a scope of marmalade spread"), to lunches in pubs, dinners in supper clubs, desserts ("flaky pastry, doused in a sauce of sweet vanilla cream") and, ending the day with tea and a good book by the fire. #somethingforSept #SeptPhotoChallenge

A fun lighthearted "read" with a great narrator. A good audiobook recommendation. I will continue to listen to the series.
