I absolutely loved this book. I listened to it on audio and both narrators were fantastic. My original reason for reading this was for #Booked2019 Muslim author but I am definitely planning to read the next two.

Couldn‘t put it down. Love the different narrators. While the voices sound the same, the stories are so different and point of view does come across well so I didn‘t have to keep checking the chapter title to tell whose stories was being told. Plot is fast paced and exciting.

I don‘t know why it took me so long to read this book because it lived up to all the amazing things I‘ve heard about it! I‘m so glad that I found all three books at my library because I can‘t wait a second more to start the second book. 5/5🌟

According to her own twitter post, the author asked for this cover change at book three and as the series continues. As an AoC she felt it important that her books represent her in image as well as words. She wanted the diversity in the pages seen on the cover as well.

Sweetkokoro Is that larger image the original cover? I have seen the red version with the girl numerous times and it just doesn‘t grab me. That other cover though would have pulled me into checking it out. 4mo
LibrarianRyan @Sweetkokoro Yes the large cover is the original cover. Book two was similar with a blue cover. Books three (the green one on the bottom right) was the first in the new covers, and the rereleased the other books in that style as well. 4mo
Sweetkokoro Dang I wish they kept with the original look. The newer covers just look like so many other YA books on the market so they arent eye catching for me, while the original stood out. (edited) 4mo
See All 6 Comments
LibrarianRyan @Sweetkokoro I agree. But I also see the authors point. The newer covers show the middle eastern or maybe Indian (i can not remember which) ethnicity of the characters. 4mo
Sweetkokoro Yah i can see that too, but it still gets lost in the sea of other covers that have a similar style, regardless of what the people look like. Its doesn‘t stand out so people like me, look it over because its boring and been done before, you know. 4mo
LibrarianRyan @Sweetkokoro Compleatly agree. With middle grade they are trying to hard to make so many books look similar to TLT that it becomes a see of blandness. 4mo

Well this took a surprise turn. I was struggling with this a bit when I first started it because it's definitely different and a bit confusing on the world building. However, it got better through the second half and then I couldn't stop reading it.

I'm a total idiot, this book has been on my TBR shelf for years (literally like 3 years) and I had convinced myself that it wouldn't be any good so I didn't even give it a chance. Cut to the present: me ordering (with 2 day shipping) the 2nd and 3rd book to An Ember in the Ashes the minute I finished it.

Enjoyable first book of this series. Memorable and likeable characters. Definitely a pick for me with a few eye rolls for the double love triangle, (love square?). That being said, you will definitely root for Elias as well as Laia. Already borrowed the next in the series, trying to wait until tomorrow to start it...

Sabaa Tahir is a goddess among mortal men, a true Kehanni. She weaves tales of death and destruction like they are barbed lullabies, agonizing yet hypnotic. I read through this story with such frantic fervor, I almost forgot to breathe. From page one, I found my heart in my throat and a weighted pit in my stomach. I traded sleep in search of a remedy between the pages to ease my endless worry. Alas, Sabaa left me gasping on the edge of a cliff.

I don‘t know how I‘ve managed it, but every book I‘ve read this year has become “my favorite book in the world”. An Ember in the Ashes is packing one powerful punch. Holy moly, it‘s such a dark and wickedly intense story. Ooh, I just got shivers thinking about it. I‘ve been reading with my heart in my throat.
