The Honest Truth
The Honest Truth | Dan Gemeinhart
The debut of a phenomenal new middle-grade talent. In all the ways that matter, Mark is a normal kid. He's got a dog named Beau and a best friend, Jessie. He likes to take photos and write haiku poems in his notebook. He dreams of climbing a mountain one day. But in one important way, Mark is not like other kids at all. Mark is sick. The kind of sick that means hospitals. And treatments. The kind of sick some people never get better from. So Mark runs away. He leaves home with his camera, his notebook, his dog, and a plan to reach the top of Mount Rainier--even if it's the last thing he ever does. The Honest Truth is a rare and extraordinary novel about big questions, small moments, and the incredible journey of the human spirit.

A sweet heartbreaking book about a boy who confronts living with / dying of cancer. I teared up in places. Did not expect to like it so much so this was a pleasant surprise.

This was a phenomenal novel by Dan Gemeinhart. “The Honest Truth” is the type of book I will pick up and fall in love with it all over again. It was heartbreaking, moving, and laughable, all in one book. 10/10 would recommend!

I am so excited to pick up “The Honest Truth”. “The Honest Truth” is about a “normal” kid named Mark. He loves photography and has a dream of climbing Mount Rainier. One day, he packs his camera, notebook, a one way train ticket, his pills, and his dog named Beau and sets off to Mount Rainier.

Cfischbuch I love this author. I hope you enjoy it. 3y

Why this book? This book was recommended to me by my previous LA teacher
Summary: It is about a boy named Mark who has cancer and is still struggling to adapt to his life. He remembers his promise to his grandfather about climbing Mount Rainer. In order to do this, he left home with his dog, Beauchamp or just Beau, and set on a course to travel to -

rmi_callmebob Mount Rainer. He went to the bus station headed to Spokane and purchased 2 tickets, the other one supposedly for his father. Mark's mother receives a call informing her that her son has went missing. In a panic, Mark's mom called Jess, Mark's best friend is she had seen him, but she doesn't know either. Mark's disappearance is especially concerning since Mark has cancer that was discovered 7 years ago. Ever since then, Mark has lost the will to - (edited) 4y

His first place was an all night restaurant where he ordered toast and scrambled eggs with bacon for his dog, Beau who was in his bag. When asked where his parents where, Mark said that his father isn't around. In the restaurant's TV screen came the missing child report about him. In fear of the waitress reporting him to the police he left in a hurry. - 4y
rmi_callmebob He was beaten by teenage passersbys who took $20 from him. Bruised and with a black eye, he found himself in a Spanish restaurant where he asked to use the telephone. He tipped the police the wrong information, but the phone call was tracked to have come from Seattle. Mark then went to a bus and met a little girl with divorced parents and somehow, mark has convinced the girl to forgive her father. While on another bus to his destination, he was - 4y
rmi_callmebob kicked out by the driver and Mark chose to be dropped with 31 miles to walk before reaching the mountain. The weather worsened and Mark found himself giving up, until a truck driver offered to help Mark. He was dropped off at the mountain where he almost lost his dog and only at that moment that Mark had realized how important life was. He passed out at the mountain, but help had come after hearing Beau bark to passerbys. (edited) 4y

Matt has been diagnosed with cancer since the early years of elementary school, he hates cancer and hospitals. He would rather be with his best friend Jesse and wishes to spend more time with his grandpa which is no longer around.
Matt has been fighting off the cancer for some time now but it has returned, so he would rather die doing something that he loved than in a hospital. So he does why he always wanted to do: climb a mountain.

#2 I really enjoyed this book, it started off fast and continued fast through out the whole book. It is about this boy named Mark who is 12 and has cancer so before he dies he wants to climb a mountain named mt. Rainier so he runs away from home with his dog and runs into a lot of problems. I recommend this book to people who like adventure and thriller books. I give it a 8.5/10

#AMonthOfSongs Day 12: Mark is 12yo and he is dying. He thought he had his cancer licked with all the treatments he needed to go through, but it‘s back with a proverbial vengeance. And Mark is having none of it. He decided to do something for himself, damn the #consequences and everyone else in his life, because he felt that his time was running out. Find out why I gave this middle grade novel a Pan in my review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-9yg

Good, very emotional. And a unfolding story. With each new event you learn more about the characters motivation and past.

What a lovely story. Mark has cancer, he‘s tried all his life to fight it, and he‘s getting tired. He has another dream-to climb Mt Rainer-sounds easier than fighting cancer. With his trusty sidekick dog, Beau, he sets off on a journey that will make you cry and cheer!
