Okay... I‘m calling it. Didn‘t make it to 24 but completed three in progress books and started three more. Hot and heavy towards my 100 book goal for 2019. I am at 80 so far. So close but still a long way to go. Any suggestions on good under 300 page reads? #MRBOOK1INAMILLION #24B4MONDAY #LITSYPARTYOFONE #MISSEDTHEMARK

This book is so addictive, i had to force myself to stop reading it. Despite it having some flaws I loved reading every minute of it. It was so engrossing, fast paced, and kept me on edge the whole time. The many 80's references were great, of which i was only able to get a few but i still enjoyed them. I did watch the movie first but it is so vastly different from the book, i do prefer the book but the movie wasn't too bad either.

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I really enjoyed it as well. 2mo
sudi @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego i was hoping it wouldn't end and just keep going on, very unrealistic opinion but i would totally read more about wade and his gang's adventures in OASIS 2mo
Meaw_catlady Yeah the movie was missing a lot of the plot that dug deeper into the story. I‘m glad you loved it as much as I did! 2mo

rachelk I totally agree! Great review :) 2mo
sudi @Meaw_catlady the movie did do a complete 180 on the book. But i guess they thought fitting the entire story from the book would have made it a pretty long movie. It was still pretty great seeing it materialize onscreen, especially the night club and the final battle scene 2mo
sudi Thanks @rachelk 😊💛 2mo

This book was like a warm embrace from a long lost aunt! As a longtime MMORPG player, the setting of a persistent virtual reality world was of particular interest, and the author truly did it justice. Story was slightly generic, but did the job. Fans of 80s culture would also appreciate the references woven throughout the story - I‘m not particularly interested in it but got caught up in the fun all the same!

This was a fun read. The plot was engaging and fast paced and I rooted for Wade and his friends to complete their virtual quest and the culminating battle. I‘m not a gamer and I appreciated the 80‘s references to games and music and computers. Younger readers will identify with it even more. I look forward to seeing the movie.

starlight97 The movie is so different ☹️ 3mo
Scochrane26 I liked the movie, but it‘s very loosely based on the book. 3mo

I‘m less than an hour in and this book is already a million times better than the first hour I listened to of Warcross. 🙄

KathyWheeler I loved this book. I‘ve read it and listened to it — Wil Wheaton was the perfect narrator. Weirdly, I am in no way the target audience for this book; my son is. I loved it and he hated it. 3mo

It took me a while to get through this book. I read it when my teenager suggested I do so, but I knew about 25% of the way through that the only reason I was still reading was because I'm trying to have something to talk with him about. He doesn't care for reading much, so when he suggested this to me I knew I had to try. There was SO MUCH 80s pop culture references that it got tedious, especially since I didn't know most of them.

Coleen This is definitely a book that‘s a product of its generation. I didn‘t think the writing was spectacular, but I loved it because of all the 80‘s references. But I can see how, for someone who didn‘t grow up during that time period, it would miss the mark. 3mo
WorldsOkayestStepMom @Coleen that's what surprised me about my teenager enjoying it! He's way more into video games though, so I could kind of see him getting more of those references. 3mo
Reggie Boys, we‘re made of frogs and snails and puppy dog tails. Give him a horror and see how he likes it. I applaud your effort to stay in touch with him!! 3mo

I watched the movie first and was expecting something completely different from the book. I was pleasantly surprised that the book was different than the movie.
I enjoyed the fact that the book went into detail and really explained what happened. Knowing the background and understanding the characters positions really put into perspective how the book played out. The growth and pace of the book was enjoyable and kept me captivated.

I loved everything about this book, the unapologetic nerdiness, the puzzles, the messages about how our society treats technology, and all the little references to the 80s. It was such a fun read and I‘m a little sad it‘s over. Now, onto the movie.

I loved this book and read it at a racing clip. I‘m giving it a So-So though because it suffers from bigtime tokenism and sketchy race issues.

It doesn‘t make it a shitty book, but the author might have avoided those elements if he‘d had honest draft feedback from Black, Japanese, LGBTQ, and disabled beta readers. YMMV.

Still one of the best books I‘ve ever read. Remember picking this up about 2 years ago on a whim, and ended up finishing it three times over the course of a long weekend. Plot was fantastic, nostalgic, and truly grasped my attention from the opening chapter. This is a book I recommend to anyone who is into 80s pop culture, or just video games in general. This is the type of book that can then non-reassess, into readers. Way better than the movie.

I liked this book much more than I thought I would. Thanks to waiting at Social Security for more than 3 hours, I finished this one via audiobook. Wil Wheaton narrates this one.
Set in 2045, post whatever, this dystopian/sci-fi/ fantasy book started in Oklahoma and ended in reality. Either way, I enjoyed it and recommend it, even if you aren‘t a gamer. Proof that you don‘t need to understand each word to enjoy. #ReadingUSA2019 #Oklahoma
