La vampa d'agosto
La vampa d'agosto | Andrea Camilleri
15 posts | 13 read | 6 to read

#FallTreasures

For a month that went wonky at the end due to crazy COVID work times, I still managed to finish 9 books & I am pretty happy with that. 🤗 All four cation, all women authors, 8 print &/or ebook & 1 audiobook. 5 for blog parties or book tours, a reread of a favorite—Persuasion for #PemberLittens #chapteraday with haiku summaries & Silence for the Dead for #sundaybuddyread & 2 just because. Overall, a good reading month! 📚📚📚

Eggs Great month 📖💗👏🏻 3y

No one takes collecting series of books more seriously than my husband. I‘ll be posting a few photos of a fraction of his books in a fraction of his shelves (why we had to add a library for him above our guest house).

The author in the link below sings Inspector Salvo Montalbano‘s praises.(Well deserved!)The food, the commentary on Sicily‘s politics, mafia, crime, social justice, the sea, the heat, the landscape, city life, relationships, sardonic humor, the imaginative murder mysteries, shocking twist- this is book #2 for me & I have fallen in love.

Librarybelle Nice article! I bought the first in the series awhile ago...I‘m hoping to read it soon! 4y
Crazeedi Oh Katherine, my most favorite series in the whole world! I'm holding on to number 24 because I dont want it to end! I hear there are a couple more not translated, but Camilleri passed last year 💔 thanks for posting the link!! Enjoy this series, it is delightful, makes me laugh and love it. 4y
Crazeedi I listened on audio to the first 17, and the reader, Stephen Sartarelli , did Catarella so well I heard his voice as I read the rest!! 4y

Crazeedi I love how he loves his meals adelina prepares, I love "Montalbano 2" I love I love I love!! 4y
kspenmoll @Crazeedi The ending of this book got to me, “He swam and wept.” ❤️ Does reading in order matter? Got this from library & I know it‘s mid way thru series-wanted to read a second one so badly I did not care. (edited) 4y
Cinfhen So glad you found a new series you love! I will check it out / thanks for sharing 💕 4y
Crazeedi @kspenmoll well I'm a stickler for reading series in order, and as I said the library had the first 17 on audio so I did. But i think you'll be ok. The characters develop over the series. I love Montalbano, his heart, his love of food, his quirks. I have the last 7, but I will eventually but the ones I listened to. Just enjoy because they are all magnificent 4y

Altogether of the 18 books I planned to read in August, I finished 16 of them, the ones marked TBR are the two I‘ve started but yet to finish.

In total in August I read 34 books and read 14,436 Pages - the most pages and number of books I have read in any month. August is my most productive reading month so won‘t break this record anytime soon. Previous best was in August 2018

LauraBeth Wow! That‘s a lot of reading! August always seems to be a slower month for me. 5y
Andrew65 @LauraBeth August is always an intense reading month, as it is the only month in the year school is shut! 5y
Crinoline_Laphroaig August is always a good reading month for me. Quiet Schedule. I get out early to weed and water. Afterwards I retreat indoors to Air conditioning and a book. 5y
PurpleyPumpkin Wow, well done you! 👍🏽 5y
Crazeedi Congrats on a record breaking month!👏👏 5y

Another audiobook finished. Number 10 in the Montalbano series. Salvo can't stand the heat this August. He's found a dead body in a room under the house Livia's friends are staying in. So he's in hot water with her. And finding the killer means getting to know the dead women's sister. My heart hurts for Salvo at the end.

Crazeedi @Andrew65 LOL🙃 Couldnt help myself, I was making pickles today, and thought hmmm what can I listen to while I'm working! This was a really good one Andrew, my heart broke for Salvo 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Yes I loved this one, but you just missed reading it in August. 😂 5y

Totally devastated! 😢 Love the Montalbano books, and only one left to read. 🙈 A wonderful author, if you have not read the Montalbano books I thoroughly recommend it.

RIP Andrea. And thanks 💔
May have to restart the series from the beginning in tribute.

JazzFeathers Such a sad news. He had been in the Hobbit al for the past months after a stroke. And he was 93. But l still felt sad when l learned it this morning. 5y
Crazeedi Oh no, so sad. I have these books on my list to start reading, I've heard good things, actually started listening to one, and thought no I need to read, the listening was too confusing to me. (edited) 5y
CarolynM That's so sad, but he had a good innings. I didn't realize he was in his 90's. I'll miss looking out for the new Montalbano book. 5y

kspenmoll So sad. You turned me on to his books, plus Nicci French‘s series. I am glad he lived a long life though. 93 is an achievement! 5y
Andrew65 @kspenmoll Yes very sad. I will miss the new Montalbano books. Great to hear you are enjoying them. 5y

This was my #LetterC for #LitsyAtoZ (in translation). It was a funny little cozy mystery with several odd twists and turns, and I quite enjoyed it! Breezy, short and entertaining, the perfect palate cleanser or read for those times when it‘s hard to concentrate. I plant to read others in this series.

Mehso-so

Started and finished during the Advocacy Summit (so, perhaps a bit distracted and definitely adrenaline-fueled and exhausted). It seemed like a decent enough mystery, though I'm not sure how I feel about the detective's personal habits. I may try another one in the series in the future.

tracey38 This picture reminded me of a Nancy Drew book! 5y

I nominate Inspector Montalbano and his girlfriend Livia as the worst couple. Every interaction seems to end in a spat and while initially it looked like they enjoyed quarrelling, as the series has progressed it has looked more and more like they are stuck in a relationship which makes neither of them happy but they don't feel able to end. It has started to make me sad. #lovehate

Just tallied up my August reads on goodreads. I felt like I had a ton of bad books (1&2 Stars), But I guess I balanced them out with good ones well enough. I might try to squeak in one more book tomorrow.. but so far 25 books

Inspector Montalbano does a lot of eating sometimes even #DinnerForTwo

Cinfhen Fun cover! Is this a cozy???? 6y
CarolynM @Cinfhen I'm not sure I'd call it cozy, but there's no graphic violence. It's set in Sicily and translated from Italian so there's lots of interesting and often amusing Italian cultural stuff in there and the mysteries themselves are usually pretty good. 6y
CarolynM @Cinfhen I probably should clarify this is part of a series. The first one is 6y

Xeroaa13 Great choice! I love Montalbano series even though it can be a tough read in Italian. If you're fascinated by Italy, it is a must read ;) 6y

First of all, where did August go????? Actually, August is one of my least favorite months because it's usually ridiculously hot and September is my favorite month so it feels like it drags. No offense to any August people, I love my Leo's, early Virgo's and late Cancerians. Any-who... I guess I did alright on the reading front, which is probably the only reason my kids are still alive. School started just in the nick of time. 😱😀

A very pleasant read. Good to read about summer heat when there's none to be had here in London. I found some of the plot elements implausible but the pace and dialogue were great.
