Ready Player One (Movie Tie-In)
Ready Player One (Movie Tie-In) | Ernest Cline
The bestselling cult classic--soon to be a major motion picture directed by Steven Spielberg. In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines--puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win--and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

1. I don't sell books. If I don't want to keep one, I'll give it to a friend or donate to the library.

2. Normally 4 days to a week.

3. The tagged book. The first few pages were too blasphemous. It was too much for me and I was disappointed because I wanted to see the 80s references.

My first #Litsylove #penpals4lyfe & I‘m so enchanted! Thank you @Bookwormjillk 😍what a beautiful note! I‘m inspired to sit down & design my bookish valentines ♥️ p.s. I know I‘m late to RP1 but I wanted to wait for the noise to die down. It was fun but not terribly challenging, just like a classic video game 🎮

I picked this book up originally because it was being made into a movie a while ago, and I sometimes don‘t agree with the book being better than a movie, but in this case I think it was way better. Part 2

Cfischbuch So glad you think the book was better. There‘s so much in this book I can see that it would be hard to put everything in. Have you tried his other book Armada? 1mo

This book is about Wade Watts. He lives in 2044, in the stacks, a town made out of RVs stacked on each other because of an energy crisis people could no longer live in houses. When James Halliday died, the creator of the oasis, he left behind all of his fortune to the winner of the contest. To win you have to find 3 keys and 3 doors. Will Wade win the contest or will a corporate team beat him to it? Part 1

James Halliday is dead. And his fortune is yours for the taking. If you can find the egg he‘s hidden inside the OASIS. Now I‘m not a serious gamer...I have been known to indulge. But I have to say, this book was great! It‘s a solid LitRPG romp through an VR world created for people to escape what I would call the near post apocalyptic future that they live in. It also made me realize by the end that I‘m glad I‘ve got more things to do than game.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is a look at our possible future, a world where life is primarily online, from school to work. A world that it seems isn‘t in the far-distance future. Wade is relatable. When we first meet Wade, The Hunt has already been in progress, but with little success. Moving through the pop culture challenges required to find the keys invokes not only nostalgia, but makes rooting for Wade easy.

Letora I was glued to this book when I read it! 3mo

This book is so addictive, i had to force myself to stop reading it. Despite it having some flaws I loved reading every minute of it. It was so engrossing, fast paced, and kept me on edge the whole time. The many 80's references were great, of which i was only able to get a few but i still enjoyed them. I did watch the movie first but it is so vastly different from the book, i do prefer the book but the movie wasn't too bad either.

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I really enjoyed it as well. 6mo
sudi @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego i was hoping it wouldn't end and just keep going on, very unrealistic opinion but i would totally read more about wade and his gang's adventures in OASIS 6mo
Meaw_catlady Yeah the movie was missing a lot of the plot that dug deeper into the story. I‘m glad you loved it as much as I did! 6mo

rachelk I totally agree! Great review :) 6mo
sudi @Meaw_catlady the movie did do a complete 180 on the book. But i guess they thought fitting the entire story from the book would have made it a pretty long movie. It was still pretty great seeing it materialize onscreen, especially the night club and the final battle scene 6mo

This book was like a warm embrace from a long lost aunt! As a longtime MMORPG player, the setting of a persistent virtual reality world was of particular interest, and the author truly did it justice. Story was slightly generic, but did the job. Fans of 80s culture would also appreciate the references woven throughout the story - I‘m not particularly interested in it but got caught up in the fun all the same!

This was a fun read. The plot was engaging and fast paced and I rooted for Wade and his friends to complete their virtual quest and the culminating battle. I‘m not a gamer and I appreciated the 80‘s references to games and music and computers. Younger readers will identify with it even more. I look forward to seeing the movie.

It took me a while to get through this book. I read it when my teenager suggested I do so, but I knew about 25% of the way through that the only reason I was still reading was because I'm trying to have something to talk with him about. He doesn't care for reading much, so when he suggested this to me I knew I had to try. There was SO MUCH 80s pop culture references that it got tedious, especially since I didn't know most of them.

Coleen This is definitely a book that‘s a product of its generation. I didn‘t think the writing was spectacular, but I loved it because of all the 80‘s references. But I can see how, for someone who didn‘t grow up during that time period, it would miss the mark. 7mo
WorldsOkayestStepMom @Coleen that's what surprised me about my teenager enjoying it! He's way more into video games though, so I could kind of see him getting more of those references. 7mo

I enjoyed the fact that the book went into detail and really explained what happened. Knowing the background and understanding the characters positions really put into perspective how the book played out. The growth and pace of the book was enjoyable and kept me captivated.

I loved this book and read it at a racing clip. I‘m giving it a So-So though because it suffers from bigtime tokenism and sketchy race issues.

It doesn‘t make it a shitty book, but the author might have avoided those elements if he‘d had honest draft feedback from Black, Japanese, LGBTQ, and disabled beta readers. YMMV.

Still one of the best books I‘ve ever read. Remember picking this up about 2 years ago on a whim, and ended up finishing it three times over the course of a long weekend. Plot was fantastic, nostalgic, and truly grasped my attention from the opening chapter. This is a book I recommend to anyone who is into 80s pop culture, or just video games in general. This is the type of book that can then non-reassess, into readers. Way better than the movie.
