Sri Lankan food is vibrant, fresh, light and delicious - a lively and colourful combination of spices, flavours and textures. Perfect for sharing and celebrating, now you can recreate it in your own kitchen with this unique collection of easy-to-use, innovative recipes inspired by the island. In this, her first cookbook, chef Emily Dobbs shares her favourite Sri Lankan-inspired recipes for every meal and season, including chapters on breakfast (such as crispy egg hopper 'pancakes') short eats (think traditional street food like vadai and mutton rolls) and a large selection of meat, fish, fruit and vegetable curries and their accompaniments. You'll also find traditional and original puddings to finish off your meal (such as banana tarte tatin and papaya cake), tips on how to make your own curry using typical Sri Lankan ingredients, and stunning photography.

Curries, hoppers and roti.... a Sri Lankan feast for this wet and miserable day!

This is an amazing book - simple recipes - but they taste just like my in laws family meals in Sri Lanka. Favourites are pineapple curry, cashew nut curry and pork with black vinegar.

AmyG That looks delicious. 4y
Balibee146 I'm now hungry 😁 4y

Chrissyreadit OMG!!! That sounds amazing! And like there are several without meat!!! Is it a meat heavy cook book or one I could get and convert the dishes easily? 4y
Mitch @Chrissyreadit The great thing about Sri Lankan cooking is the vegetable dishes! Its at least 50/50 meat/veg - and the veggie dishes are amazing. 4y
Chrissyreadit @Mitch is the tagged a favorite cookbook? 4y
erzascarletbookgasm This looks like an amazing meal! 4y
Mitch @Chrissyreadit It is... it's by a woman who lives near us in Hackney and has family near where Mel's family come from... lots of lovely recipes here. The other favourite author of Sri Lankan food is Peter Kuruvita. https://www.peterkuruvita.com/recipes/recipe-2/ 4y

Kicking off the birthday weekend with my favourite - Sri Lankan breakfast at our local park cafe, outside in the sun. It was also a good place to reflect on how far I‘ve come with #bfcr3 - walked 43 miles this week, wore a pair of jeans I‘ve not been able to for quite some time (and smiled every moment of wearing them) and have had sugar under control on most days. @Blaire @nelehelen @callielafleur @Chrissyreadit @sudi @MicrobeMom @crazeedi

Chrissyreadit Wow!!! 1. I want to live in your neighborhood 2. I‘m going to be super excited to see your birthday weekend updates. Hope you have fun! 3. Congrats on the jeans!!!!! That is awesome!!!! (edited) 5y

Of course I only ever use my mother in laws recipes but if you was to need a cucumber curry recipe because the greens house is busting with cucumbers then this is the book I would choose! 😉😉😉

catebutler Ooh! This looks so good! All your fresh veg from your garden look amazing, Mitch. 5y
kgriffith At first I thought it was pickle soup, which I love ;) But this also sounds intriguing, and looks delish! 5y

Mitch @kgriffith oh my goodness - pickle soup? That sounds like something I‘ve got tot try to make.... is it a family thing? 5y
Mitch @catebutler we have sooooo many cucumbers! And every time I pick some in the morning more have grown- literally overnight! Going to be making bread and butter pickles soon! 5y
Mitch @Soubhiville I love cucumber curry - it‘s one of my favs! 5y
kgriffith @Mitch Nope, no idea where I first got the notion, probably a book, honestly 😋 The first time I made it was long before I had a Polish housemate at MHC, so I know it wasn‘t from her, but it IS a Polish meal. https://noblepig.com/2013/03/dill-pickle-soup/ 5y
Cathythoughts Looks divine 5y
Chrissyreadit Where can I get this recipe? 5y
Chrissyreadit I just saw your one cookbook a month idea! I love it! 5y
Mitch @kgriffith I‘m going to give that a go! 🙏 5y
Mitch @Chrissyreadit yeah - we buy all the specialist ingredients and spices etc and then cook through a book in a month! It‘s a great way to use everything up! 5y

My husband and I have chosen 12 cookery books from our shelves to cook through this year - one a month. January is all about Sri Lanka, courtesy of the amazing Emily Donna. Today we made cucumber curry, cashew nut curry and mutton rolls. It was delicious ! I love the weekends!

1- I have so many favourite cuisines! But if I had to choose it would be Italian, Sri Lankan and Chinese. 2- No theme - but I hope it‘s warm and homely. When house hunting many years ago our number one wish list item was a kitchen big enough for a large table to gather around. Which we have! 3- Mincers / Choppers and beautiful wooden spoons 4- Too many to list! 5- Savory or mint chocolate! 6- A bar chopping board! Thanks @MinDea #feedareader

MinDea You should list them though for your match 😉 6y
MinDea If you do swaps! 6y
Mitch Mmm. The Wanderers, The People In The Trees, Tin man, Oyrx & Crake and the Night Circus. (edited) 6y

Reviving a tradition we did a few years ago - picking one cookbook to cook from for the whole month. For January we‘re craving heat and comfort so we‘ve chosen a month of curry. Meal planning is going to be so much fun next week. #cookbooks #foodandbooks #familytime

BookishMarginalia What a great idea! Remember to post your creations! 6y
Mitch Will do @BookishMarginalia ! We really enjoyed doing it a few years ago and worked our way through about 10 different books. (edited) 6y
Lacythebookworm I love this idea! I look forward to seeing what you make 😋 6y

Mitch 😋😋😋 6y
BookNAround Love that tradition. It might also help me decide which of my cookbooks are keepers and which would be better appreciated in a different kitchen. 6y
Mitch Yeah @BookNAround it‘s also good so that when you buy some specialist ingredients you end up using it all and not having a cupboard full of half packets! 6y
BookNAround @Mitch Hadn‘t thought of the ingredients angle but that makes it even better! 6y
Reviewsbylola Gorgeous cover! 6y
