This was an enjoyable book. I had a love hate relationship with the main character but I was glad to see her growth by the end of the book. I really enjoy how she grew to love the dog called called Teddy. I just wish there was more scenes with the dog. However I did enjoy that romance aspect of the book. 4⭐

This one could've been a pick. But the narrator's accent was so irritating, the constant reminders of the location (yes, you're from Jonesboro and now live in Memphis - you've mentioned it at least 37 times), the repeated unrealized held breaths, laughs, tears, etc. just kept me from enjoying what was a pretty ok story.

Traci1 @Bookgoil I think if I had read it in print, I'd have enjoyed it a lot more. The narrator just irritated me so much. The story was actually decent. Though not really Christmasy. 3y
Ruthiella “Unrealized held breath” drives me NUTS. It‘s so over used. 😖 3y

Never before have I read a character that is so oblivious. Soooo many held breaths she didn't realize she was holding. So many tears she didn't realize she was shedding. Even smiles she didn't realize she was holding back. Good lord, woman, pay attention! It's driving me mad. 🤦‍♀️

Prairiegirl_reading Sounds very annoying! I would hate that! 3y
rabbitprincess How do you not realize you‘re holding back a smile?! Holding back implies you are making an effort to prevent it! I can understand more of the not realizing you‘re crying, because that happened to me once (but only once). 3y
Traci1 @rabbitprincess right? It made no sense. And I counted at least 15 occurrences of not realizing she was holding back something. Usually it was breaths. I just feel like an editor or someone should've pulled the author aside and said, you know maybe we could do without a few of these...or you know...all of them. 3y

I was busy baking some of the a Christmas essentials today (these are cheese straws for my dad‘s stocking). So, not cakes of any sort but making them reminded me of this tbr book for Day 10 of #bookadventcalendar. @LeahBergen

LeahBergen I want those cheese straws! 4y

I liked it, but the writing was pretty basic and you could tell a bit of her writing was just for filler. I wish the ending happened a little differently, but it‘s ok. I would recommend it to dog lovers :)

This book is so charming! I expected a dog to be featured in the book somewhere but THIS dog (name: Teddy Roosevelt) is a major character, I love that! This is an adult coming-of-age (sort of) for Brydie as she redefines herself after divorce. I love when characters rediscover themselves after traumatic events. I loved the baking (baking for dogs!) and the relationships formed over pup ownership at the dog park. Great for fall + holiday reading ✔️
