The Hitchhiker's Guide Trilogy
The Hitchhiker's Guide Trilogy: A Trilogy in Five Parts | Douglas Adams
15 posts | 21 read | 2 reading | 6 to read
Don't Panic: collected together in the Hitchhiker's Guide Trilogy are the five titles that comprise Douglas Adams' wildly popular and wholly remarkable comedy science fiction series, with a special introduction from the author himself. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy One Thursday lunchtime the Earth gets unexpectedly demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass. For Arthur Dent, who has only just had his house demolished that morning, this seems already to be rather a lot to cope with. Sadly, however, the weekend has only just begun. The Galaxy may offer a mind-boggling variety of ways to be blown up and/or insulted, but it's very hard to get a cup of tea. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe When all questions of space, time, matter and the nature of being have been resolved, only one question remains - 'Where shall we have dinner?' The Restaurant at the End of the Universe provides the ultimate gastronomic experience, and for once there is no morning after to worry about. Life, the Universe and EverythingFollowing a number of stunning catastrophes, Arthur Dent is surprised to find himself living in a hideously miserable cave on prehistoric Earth. However, just as he thinks that things cannot get possibly worse, they suddenly do. An eddy in the space-time continuum lands him, Ford Prefect, and their flying sofa in the middle of the cricket ground at Lord's, just two days before the world is due to be destroyed by the Vogons. Escaping the end of the world for a second time, Arthur, Ford, and their old friend Slartibartfast embark (reluctantly) on a mission to save the whole galaxy from fanatical robots. Not bad for a man in his dressing gown . . . So Long, and Thanks for All the FishThere is a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. It's not an easy thing to do, and Arthur Dent thinks he's the only human who's been able to master this nifty little trick - until he meets Fenchurch, the woman of his dreams. Fenchurch once realised how the world could be made a good and happy place. Unfortunately, she's forgotten. Convinced that the secret lies within God's Final Message to His Creation, they go in search of it. And, in a dramatic break with tradition, actually find it . . .Mostly HarmlessArthur Dent has settled down on the small planet Lamuella and has embraced his role as a Sandwich Maker. However, his plans for a quiet life are thrown awry by the unexpected arrival of his daughter. There's nothing worse than a frustrated teenager with a copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in their hands. When she runs away, Arthur goes after her determined to save her from the horrors of the universe. After all - he's encountered most of them before . . .

I'm sure stress and anxiety have been getting to all of us. I usually use humor to cope. What are some of the funniest books you have ever read? For me it's the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe "Trilogy", The Princess Beard, and Tales from the Gas station.

Soubhiville I love Terry Pratchett‘s Discworld books, especially the YA Tiffany Aching series for something light. I also love Samantha Irby and Jenny Lawson, for funny essay type memoir writing. 3y
TEArificbooks The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich always makes me laugh 3y

Read-y_Picker That's my go-to movie when I'm down! How about some Terry Pratchett to read? 3y
DaveGreen7777 “Good Omens” by Gaiman and Pratchett is fantastic! Also, sometimes urban fantasy novels with sassy (and funny) heroines cheer me up. “Dead Witch Walking” by Kim Harrison and “Mind Games” by Carolyn Crane helped make me smile during hard times! 3y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego In particular the audio 3y
Patchshank @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Lamb is good. My favorite by Christopher Moore is this one. 3y
Patchshank @DaveGreen7777 Good Omens is one of my favorites. I haven't heard of the other two. I will check them out. 3y
Patchshank @Read-y_Picker For movie are you talking about The Princess Bride? If so that's a good one too. The book and movie are both great. If you like Terry Pratchett you should try The Princess Beard. I feel like its a mix between Pratchett and Christopher Moore. I listened to the audiobook and I was cracking up. 3y
Patchshank @mdm139 I haven't tried to read the Stephanie Plum series, but my grandma is a huge fan. It's one of her favorites. She says it's really funny. I've been meaning to read it, but haven't gotten around to it yet. 3y
Patchshank @Soubhiville Jenny Lawson is pretty great. I was laughing my ass off when she was talking about working in HR. I can't remember which book it was. 3y
Reggie Sooooooo this has some horror in it but the girl from whom the story is being told is pretty funny. And if you look at the cover you‘re gonna think no way. But I thought it was way more humorous than horrific. And none of it has to do with coronavirus or politics or hate. In fact there‘s this little thing in the end that has to do with why kindness matters in the most off the wall way imaginable. It was sweet in a way. 3y
Patchshank @Reggie I love when horror and comedy are mixed. I haven't heard of The Hollow Places. If you like horror/comedy I recommend The Tales from the Gas Station series, the John Dies at the End series (not so much the third one, but it's ok), and Hollow Kingdom. 3y
RamsFan1963 I recommend D.L. Hughley's last two books, How Not To Get Shot: And Other Advice From White People & Surrender White People: Our Unconditional Terms for Peace. Especially if you go the audiobook route, his narration made me laugh so hard my sides hurt!! 3y
Patchshank @RamsFan1963 Libby has both as audiobook. I've added them to my list. I miss having a job that let me wear headphones. 3y
Megabooks David Sedaris 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This is a YA historical fiction that takes MANY historical liberties and adds a bit of the supernatural. 3y

I‘m a little late, but this was a tough & I had to really think about it. #staycationintime

Assuming that my backpack doesn‘t count, I‘d pack:
(1) a towel b/c every good interstellar, time traveling, hitchhiker-adventurer should know where her towel is. Immensely useful item (see the guide for more info) 😉
(2) a pen & journal (counting this as a set, so 1 item)
(3) a baseball cap—for shading one‘s eyes, as well as a cheap disguise just in case

Chrissyreadit ❤️❤️❤️ 5y
Ruthiella Well naturally a towel! 🤣🤣🤣 5y

Because you can never be reading too many books at once and as my local charity bookshop is selling everything half price, I picked up three books yesterday including this. A 2002 edition - not currently listed on Litsy. As a very small child I was addicted to the 1980s BBC television adaptation of the original radio series (which I‘ve never listened to). I‘ve always wanted to read the books. At Q9.25 for the compilation of four, I couldn‘t say no

CarolynM These books are happy memories of mine. 😃 Enjoy! 5y
Eggs Welcome to Litsy 🤗📚 5y
