Assassin's Blade: The Throne of Glass Novellas | Sarah J Maas
Celaena Sardothien is Adarlan's most feared assassin. As part of the Assassin's Guild, she's sworn to her master, Arobynn Hamel, yet Celaena listens to no one and trusts only her fellow killer for hire, Sam.In these action-packed prequel novellas to "Throne of Glas"s, Celaena embarks on five daring missions. They take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, where she fights to liberate slaves and avenge tyranny. But by acting on her own terms, will Celaena truly free herself from her master, or will she suffer an unimaginable punishment for such treachery? This bind-up features all four of the previously published e-novellas along with a story now available in the US for the first time, "The Assassin and the Healer."

I really love being a librarian! 💕📚 Some days are better than others, obviously, but on days like this I am just filled with bookish joy! ☺️ The Throne of Glass series is super popular, and I'm always replacing the library copies with new ones, usually one at a time as they get worn out - so I just ordered a brand new complete set for the library! They arrived today, and I'm so excited to see them! Now they all match, and look so lovely! 😍

Reading this book 3rd is the definition of dating someone who you know will break your heart. I still don‘t regret reading it third though, otherwise Idk if I would have had it in me to like other new characters and continue on with the series. This is a great book. You get to know Celaena and what led her to become who she is in book 1. I do not think I will forget its last chapters any time soon. It made me appreciate my life and those I love.

I‘m on the very last story of The Assassin‘s Blade novella; I‘ve heard I‘m about to have my heart ripped out. Even though I know how it ends, I‘m not sure reading the details will be enjoyable 🥲

Go through all these novellas that made up the Assassins Blade. I can see where it said to read this prequel after the third book. Yet - YET - these would have been such a better introduction to Celeana‘s story in the Keep. This explained her plight more than “book 1”.
Underground novella was not a favorite of them, but it still showed quite a detail in who Celeana is as a person.

My library has almost all the short stories separate. Or at least, with less time as the whole book of all has a 24 week wait. So no issue reading these.
Desert: I liked this one. The idea of the silent assassins and the Mute Master… incredible mystery at the end. Also, HORSES!!
Empire: wasn‘t too into this, as I already knew where it was going. Yes, it ached to know that. But it also didn‘t let it really sink in. Until the end. Just damn

I started another novella from THE ASSASSIN‘S BLADE after I finished tonight‘s novel. I‘ve been rereading one every time I finish another book this month. Hopefully I‘ll manage to do a full series reread by the end of the year. Throne of Glass is uneven, but when it‘s on it‘s ON.

I‘ve only read the first two books so far before trying out this prequel. I‘m struggling with the series. I have book 3 in print but haven‘t been able to get through it, so placed a hold for the audiobook at my library.

LittleBowBook I had a tough time with this series at first. The struggle is worth it! 10mo
Kristy_K @LittleBowBook I hope so! I loved her ACOTAR series and have heard great things about this one. 10mo
LittleBowBook @Kristy_K ACOTAR is my fav, too. I also had a harder time getting into Crescent City. All of them are worth the struggle! 10mo

Finished this one this weekend as well! I liked learning a bit more about Celaenas story and background and really liked the short story format this book had. I know everyone has their preferences on when you should read this book and I‘m glad I read Throne of Glass first personally🤷🏻‍♀️ Onward!

A collection of novellas that take place before the 1st book in the series. I loved seeing more of Celaena's history, including her relationship with Sam & the other events that brought her to the beginning of the 1st book. I think the writing style was closer to Throne of Glass, & I didn‘t enjoy it as much. The characters felt simpler & I missed the depth I found in the 3rd book. Read it if you love the series, but it‘s not a good place to start.

YA. Prequel to Throne of Glass. Learn why Caelena Sardothian, the assassin's darling, was betrayed & by whom. I didn't like Caeleana's character and found phrases such as ".. a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth" as overused & worthy of an eyeball roll. This is the first Maas book I have not liked. I don't think it added to the series, but I may find her getting revenge on her betrayer more to my liking with this background knowledge.

Finished 'The Assassin's Blade' and have started 'The Book of Goose'. Unpopular opinion, but I'm not a massive fan of SJM's writing.... but I generally fall in love with her characters. However, I just didn't really get Celaena, for such a badass, she was oddly immature and naive, blundering through her adventures in a self-obsessed and shallow way...but maybe that is supposed to reflect her age and allow for dramatic character development 🤔

Vansa I find a lot of fantasy novels over the last 10 years have female protagonists who behave like ...idiots! Actually not just fantasy in all fairness.Extremely self involved and solipsistic writing.I guess we've read so many poorly written male protagonists over the years, publishers feel one must give that chance to women writers now! 🤷🏾‍♀️ 1y
RobES @Vansa you're so right! I like a human, flawed, layered character....but the levels of moronic are just not believable! Like, why do all the males growl and all the females hiss ....usually when angry or aroused!? 🤔🙄 1y
Vansa @RobES 😂😂that is SO TRUE, about the growling and hissing!! It's in so many books! So many different authors are using the same language! 1y

Meshell1313 Ok here‘s my thoughts: all of the stories take place before throne of glass so it is okay to read them first without getting spoilers, however, I would read it after Heir of fire so you get a better understanding of some of the characters. Hope this helps a little! 2y

The boy is not getting any better and is now completely filled up with cold so I'm making some feel better sleep sprays for his pillow in the hopes that the aromatherapy will help him find some relief to sleep. When it's a crappy, rainy day and all you want to do it read but someone won't let you sit down (thanks Tiny Terrorist) and your teen steals your earbuds and won't give them back (jerk) you improvise!

This was an amazing prequel to Throne of Glass! I loved the amount of action in this book, and how we learn more about Celaena's past. The plot was amazing and I loved the twists. The romance between Celaena and Sam was so bittersweet and was such an emotional rollercoaster. I love Celaena as a character and her developments are amazing! This was such a good series of novellas and I can't wait to read Queen of Shadows next!
