Book Art: Creative Ideas to Transform Your Books, Decorations, Stationary, Display Scenes and More
Book Art: Creative Ideas to Transform Your Books, Decorations, Stationary, Display Scenes and More | Clare Youngs
15 posts | 1 read | 3 to read
Do you have a shelf of old books that you love, but rarely touch? Well why not give them a new lease of life and use them to create one of the 35 beautiful projects Clare Youngs has developed? Divided into five chapters, you will discover ways to make greetings cards, stationery, animals, display scenes, and more using pages from all kinds of different books. The beautiful typography and vintage-style artworks will provide interesting color, pattern, and texture to designs such as the owl and pussycat pop-up scene. The illustrations in children s books give a vintage feel to bunting or an alphabet to decorate a kid s room, while maps and atlases work well on lampshades or birthday cards. Use elegant images from interiors books to decorate a wardrobe and chest of drawers or cut away at a hardcover book to make displays like the cliff and lighthouse scene. The designs use a variety of crafting techniques from quilling to collage and die-cutting and each project comes with easy-to-follow instructions and step-by-step artworks. There s also a helpful techniques section at the back that will be of real use to first-time crafters, handy time-saving tips that more confident crafters will appreciate, and a templates section."

I drew this so I could talk abut books more on my art page, lol. If I make a book club that I have to draw graphics for then I think it‘s still on topic. Instagram: skeletonkeystudio

Passed by an empty shop which had been decorated with books and greenery in bird cages. What a lovely idea for when shops are between tenants!

RinaBrahmbhattBarot So beautifully :) 4y

This picture only represents half of the Twilight and Hunger Games books donated to the Livingston, NJ library sale. I think it's safe to say that if you ever see a book craft you want to make but don't want to cut up a book, you're good if you pick up one of these second hand for $1.

rather_be_reading 😲😲😲 4y
ravenlee Have you seen the picture from the charity bookshop in England? They built a fort of all the donated copies of Fifty Shades of Gray! 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @ravenlee NO! I hadn't seen that. I'll have to search for it. That sounds hilarious! I do see a fair share of the 50 Shades series at these sales, too. 4y

My former library manager got married last fall. I caught her bouquet, made by Bloomin' Books by Cha (Etsy and Instagram). A year later and I still love that I can surround my family with such beautiful, literary creativity made by dear friends. #bookart #handmade #bookishwedding

Cinfhen It‘s lovely 💜🧡💚 4y
ValerieAndBooks Beautiful!! 4y
MaggieCarr Thanks, I agree completely. Visit Cha's site here: https://bloomingbooksbycha.weebly.com/ 4y

Stationery win: These beautiful, calm highlighters are going to make my revision cards so pretty instead of my usual brash, rowdy fluorescent ones! 👏🏻 😍

MidnightBookGirl I use a gray highlighter and it's my favorites! I really like pastel highlighters in general. 4y
squirrelbrain Ooh I‘ve got some like that too - they‘re amazing aren‘t they?! #stationerygoals 4y
Caroline2 @MidnightBookGirl grey??? Ohhhh 😯 I didn‘t even know you could get a grey highlighter!! That sounds lovely! *looking up grey highlighters on Amazon* 4y

TCLinrow I need these highlighters! 😍🤩 All my highlighters are fluorescent so I know what you mean about brash revision cards 😁 4y

Stationery fail: I ordered these personalised stickers off eBay and they were meant to say just Litsy Book Mail! 🤦🏻‍♀️😳

MidnightBookGirl Still cute though! 4y
BiblioLitten I know! Still cute😀 4y
tracey38 They are still cute but I can totally understand being frustrated. I'd still use them though! 4y

I still haven't decided how I feel about this.

Extremely literal #heartshapedbox #90sinjuly @Robothugs @Cinfhen

Kalalalatja It's pretty, but it hurts my heart as well 💔 5y
Lcsmcat Unless it's done to a Reader's Digest Condensed book, I can't bear to think about it. 5y
Cinfhen Very cool 😎 and clever response 💡I'm ok with book art, if it's from a book that is no longer able to be read 5y

rockpools @Cinfhen Maybe that's it! I love Su Blackwell's stuff, but this makes me feel uncomfortable- perhaps because it looks like a readable book still. 5y
rockpools @Lcsmcat 😂 I knew I should've kept those old RD volumes! 5y
rockpools @Kalalalatja The book has some nice ideas, but I'm veering towards 'there's no excuse!' for this one! 5y

I think I forgot to show all of you this fantastic book stand one of the authors had at my library's recent book expo. It's lovely. Very similar to the one my brother made for @BookBabe and me for Christmas. 😁👍🏻

Lynnsoprano Very similar to the one I use in the kitchen for cookbooks. I love that mine folds flat when not in use. 5y
GypsyKat I have one like this for cookbooks also, but I did use it one Halloween to prop up a "spell book" just for fun. ? 5y
LitsyGoesPostal 😊👍🏻 5y
