I read this book because I read on Facebook that it was a real tear jerker. It didn‘t disappoint. If you‘re looking for a sad story, this is it. Al thought it was originally written for young adults, I didn‘t find the writing too young for me. I think that this is one that I‘ll pass on to my granddaughter to read. I plan on watching the movie next, and hope it‘s as good as the book. This book was written in the 1970s, but I found it ageless.

It's always exciting when I find a book that my reluctant reader enjoys. 🥳📚

I was browsing Scribd for something light yesterday and thought hmmm, this is such a classic and I've never read it. Joke's on me because I did, possibly in translation - I remember the mom being from Georgia, because I didn't understand US states yet and thought it was Georgia next to Russia 😂😂😂 And I remember the sister wearing a see-through blouse to church. A sweet Sunday reread. I didn't know the book was based on a real girl who died.

I never read this book as a child, although I had seen the movie. Reading this was every bit as magical and heartbreaking as I imagined it would be. The interview at the end with the author and her son, for whom she wrote the book, was very sweet.

A surprising pick. Read this for the pop sugar challenge for author with the same initials as me and ended up liking it more than expected.

Just finished my February #bookspin. It took me a long time to finish this book, especially considering how small it is, but it was just so slow paced and it didn‘t really have plot to it. It was still a fun book and almost made me cry at the end but I can‘t see myself ever reading it again

Bridge to Terabithia is a story about two friends Jess and the new girl at school Leslie and their friendship. Leslie helps Jess work through some of his self identity problems and the two create a world of their own called Terabithia. Here they go on many adventures together.

Bridge to Terabithia is a story about a make believe land that two friends create together to escape the world. Jess and Leslie become friends when Leslie moves into the town Jess lives in. The two make up amazing stories and go on many adventures in Terabithia.

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Patterson and illustrated by Donna Diamond was published in 1977 and won the Newberry Medal. This book is a young adult fictional story and is about two children named Leslie and Jesse who created a magical forest kingdom in their imaginations.

It was okay. A cool kids story. There was a part that was sad, I can see why it's on the banned book list.

I listened to this on audio. I think that's what made the fatphobia (mainly in the first part of the story) particularly jarring to me. I enjoyed it otherwise, though.

I think I probably read most of these pre-6th grade, but this post still hits hard in the 90s kid nostalgia. I‘d also add Harry Potter books 1-4 to the list. If I remember correctly GoF came out the summer between my 5th/6th grade.

📚Yes. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one I come back to every few years…and The Count of Monte Cristo. Perhaps 2021/2022 will be time for another visit!
📚Cover art does draw me in…from there it‘s a quick scan of the blurbs. I know i shouldn‘t but I do judge a book by its cover (art). 😳

This was a sweet and moving story that I probably would have really enjoyed as a kid. I didn't completely engage with the characters, but I loved their friendship.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A good book about friendship. I enjoyed reading about Jesse and Leslie and their adventures together in Terabithia. It is a frigid tale but so very good.

Finished last night. There was an interview at the end with the author and her son who co-wrote the screenplay for the movie, so I think I need to watch that next! Also I am feeling good about having completed both my #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin books for January. I hope I can keep it up the rest of the year.

I was thrilled to learn that Robert Sean Leonard narrates this book 😍 when I couldn‘t find my print copy (I‘ve been packing). Just might be able to finish my January #BookSpin after all.

So I listened to this short classic today and bawled my eyes out. 😭

A little late posting my #BookSpinBingo card. I had to sub out my double spin book because I ended up finishing it before the 4th. I chose A Midsummer Night‘s Dream since one of the other books on this card is a parody of it and I have only ever read an adapted version of the original.

Both heartwarming & heartbreaking with great narrative style. I think it is SO important for the middle grade protagonists to tell their own story rather than having an outside narrator. It makes the emotions & events so much more powerful & honest. This is pulled off wonderfully with this one. It was additionally impactful to learn that this story was based on the author's son's personal experience as a young child. Got me right in the feels.

In the chapters that I read in this book, I saw that the author used lots of old words that I don't find in newer books and contraction words. One example of a contraction word that I see lots in the book is “Yes'm“. I think that word is a contraction of “Yes“ and “Ma'am“. I don't see this word in books that I have read that were published after Bridge To Terabithia.

I picked this book because the summary and the title was interesting. I also thought the cover was fascinating to look at.

The book takes place in Virginia in the mid 1970's, Leslie and Jess lives on the countryside. If this book were to change the place and time, they would be in city. The plot won't really change because in the book Leslie moves into the neighborhood where Jess lives in.

Jesse and Leslie's friendship is what I can related on. There friendship is simple, they're childish exploits fraught with amusement and joy. I related more on their friendship rather than any character. Their friendship isn't always carefree, their friendship is magical it allows them to rejoice and escape the pressures that is being forced onto them. It gets them to be their true selves around each other.

I chose this book because it's very close to reality. The book views how kids can go through difficulties as well, relying on their imagination to help distract them. This book is also a bit dark when we go a bit more deeper into the story, it has a tragedy, imagination and friendship which is what interested me to read it.

No matter how many time I read this, or watch the movie, I always cry. This may have been the 1st book to cause me to cry.

O, my. I think I just read my #tearjerker without even realising.
The rich imagination and sense of adventure capture my heart. So imagine my shock at the end.
The thing is I've seen the movie - many years back - but I couldn't remember how it ended. So I thought I'll read it and then I'm sure to remember. Now I believe I blocked out the ending for obvious reason...😭

Summary: Jess' goal is to be the fastest runner in grade 5. he practiced for the whole summer but on the first day of school, a girl named Leslie joins the race and outruns everyone. Although everyone expected them to be enemies, they became inseparable. Together, they created a magical kingdom in the woods called Terabithia, where they both reign as king and queen.

“When he was in first grade, he told his father that he wanted to be an artist when he grew up. He thought he‘d be pleased, he wasn‘t.”

I would use this in a classroom to help demonstrate and foster the importance of friendships and imagination!
