Love this! Anne Bronte is wonderful. I wish there were many more works by Anne to consume. It is unfortunate that she didn't live long enough to write more.

christmassquirrel I LOVE the Brontës! Anne is sort of forgotten but she is excellent. If you like poetry, check hers out! 6y

The Princess Bride has been one of my favorite movies since I was young. This book is a very enjoyable memoir of the making of the movie. It is sweet and funny and makes me want to watch the movie right now! I recommend the audiobook. It is read by Cary Elwes and other cast members are also featured.

This book should have been a pick for me. The story is really interesting. The reason this is just so-so is because the story jumps around too much and it was confusing.

This book started off slow. I was thinking about bailing on it for a while. Part of the difficulty was keeping all of the families and people straight. After I got into the story, I really enjoyed it. This is a quiet story about friendship and love. I am looking forward to following these characters as their lives progress. And honestly, that last bit had me dying to grab the next book so I could find out what happens next.

Graywacke Love seeing this here. Hope you enjoy the rest, got lost in them myself. 6y
shahn77 @Graywacke I will be moving on to the next one pretty quickly. This one really drew me in. Also, I just saw that HBO is adapting this into a mini-series so I definitely want to finish them before I watch it. 6y

I really enjoyed this novella. It was nice to spend some more time in this world. I really appreciate the damage that everyone shows from the events of the first three books. It is nice to not just see everyone moving on like nothing traumatic happened. At the same time, this books was also full of hope. It was a really quick and lovely read.

This is a strange little book. This book had lots of wacky ideas but I didn't hate it. Even if I wouldn't actually do a lot of the things laid out in this book, it was still an enjoyable audiobook to listen to.

This is a super fun YA mystery. I am looking forward to reading the rest of these when they are released. I wish I had known that this was going to end on a cliffhanger. I might have waited until the story wrapped up to read it. I have a terrible memory. I will have forgotten everything by the time the next book comes out.

I have been working on this one for a while. Some library holds and some crazy life stuff got in the way. So glad I finally finished it. I watched the mini-series way back when with my dad(I was probably in my early teens when it originally aired) and we watched it any time it was re-aired after that. I have always wanted to read the book. I was not disappointed. Love, love, love!

I am over 3 hours into this audiobook and I am not sure that this is for me. I stopped listening this morning and moved on to 'Truly Devious' which I am enjoying. Not sure if I should just return this to the library or give it some more time. I don't think the story or the characters are interesting so far. Does it just start slow or should I just be done with this one?

I enjoyed this book. I am not a big lover of Shakespeare but that didn't make this any less interesting. As Oliver is released from prison after 10 years, he agrees to tell the real story to the officer that arrested him. This is a debut novel and I look forward to seeing what the author does next.

This book was beautifully written. It has been on my the since it came out. I just didn't like it. It took me two tries to get through it. I probably would have bailed a second time if it wasn't for book club.

Nikki15 Ah that‘s a shame. It‘s one of my favourites. What didn‘t you like about it? 6y
shahn77 @Nikki15 To be honest, I don't really have a specific answer. I really expected to love this. There were only a couple of small chunks of this book that I actually liked. Mostly, it just felt emotionless to me. 6y

So, this is going to be unpopular, but I didn't love this book. I didn't love her last book either. I almost skipped this one, but I kept hearing good things about it. I didn't hate it, it was fine. i felt like I was kept at arms length from the emotion of it. Also, she kept telling me that this was happening in the 90s, but I didn't feel like it was. I was in my teens/twenties then and I didn't feel like she captured that time period at all.

LiteraryinLawrence Hmm, that‘s a good point about the time period. I just read this one and liked it, but I‘ll have to think more about whether it felt authentically 90s. 6y
shahn77 @LiteraryinLititz I don't have a really good reason why it didn't feel like the 90s. She kept mentioning movies, music, etc that places this in the 90s, but it didn't feel right. The kids didn't feel like 90s teens. Of course, I feel like this book kept me at arms length so that might be contributing to those feelings too. 6y

I finally finished this just in time for book club tomorrow night. I didn't love this series. I would recommend reading 'The Giver' and not continuing on through the rest of the series.

mab-solenne I liked Gathering Blue but haven't gotten as far as Son. I will agree that GB was a little derivative of Giver, but I think I liked it for the talk of fiber arts and natural dyes 😃. I'm not sure i will ever feel like reading Son for myself, but I would still recommend the series to kids and young teens. 6y
shahn77 @makovienka I think I would have liked Gathering Blue better if it hadn't been connected to The Giver series. As a stand-alone story, I might have enjoyed it more. I didn't enjoy The Messenger at all. Lots of storylines that went nowhere. 6y

I listened to this book. This is the story of the author's great great grandmother. She is said to haunt her old home which is now a hotel. The writing is fine, but the author didn't really get me interested in this story. She seemed detached from it all and so did I. Also, I didn't really love all the seance stuff. It seemed like instead of doing more in-depth family research, she talked to mediums.

This is another underwhelming installment in the Giver Quartet. I probably would have bailed on this series after 'Gathering Blue' if this series wasn't our book club pick for this month. On to 'The Son'. Maybe it will be better than the last two.

I am a sucker for a space opera. These books are so much fun. There are some great new voices in this one that I hope will continue to appear in the story. And of course, I adore the wonderful crew of the Rocinante. I can't wait to dive into the next one!

shahn77 @callielafleur I have been loving the series but my husband couldn't get into it(he hasn't read the books). I read the first book right before I watched season. I stopped part watching part way through season 2 when the show caught up to the end of book 1 so I could read book 2 before continuing. The book and show so far have been pretty similar but I think reading the book helped me keep track of some things that were happening on the show. 6y

This book is excellent! I think I liked it more than 'The Dry'. Five women go into the woods on a teambuilding camping trip and only four come out. This was so creepy! The characters were all really well drawn and sympathetic. You can feel the paranoia rise as things go wrong in the wilderness. I was pretty sure that I knew what didn't happen, but I didn't figure out what actually did happen until it was revealed. Highly recommend!
