Amateur detective Mallory Viridian's talent for solving murders ruined her life on Earth and drove her to live on an alien space station, but her problems still follow her in this witty, self-aware novel that puts a speculative spin on murder mysteries, from the Hugo-nominated author of Six Wakes. From idyllic small towns to claustrophobic urban landscapes, Mallory Viridian is constantly embroiled in murder cases that only she has the insight to solve. But outside of a classic mystery novel, being surrounded by death doesn't make you a charming amateur detective, it makes you a suspect and a social pariah. So when Mallory gets the opportunity to take refuge on a sentient space station, she thinks she has the solution. Surely the murders will stop if her only company is alien beings. At first her new existence is peacefully quiet...and markedly devoid of homicide. But when the station agrees to allow additional human guests, Mallory knows the break from her peculiar reality is over. After the first Earth shuttle arrives, and aliens and humans alike begin to die, the station is thrown into peril. Stuck smack-dab in the middle of an extraterrestrial whodunit, and wondering how in the world this keeps happening to her anyway, Mallory has to solve the crime--and fast--or the list of victims could grow to include everyone on board....

This could have been better by being leaner. That being said, I definitely enjoyed this sci-fi/mystery mash-up. [More-complete review may come.]

Can you have a cozy mystery in space, one set in a sentient space station populated by various alien species (who barely tolerate humans) where murder, mystery, military & political intrigue, the interconnections people share, & the potential destruction of everyone & everything combine in a cast-paced, entertaining story? Yes, yes you can. And this book is just that. Great world & characters, entertaining story. Cozy mystery in space. Who knew?

That was fun! Mallory, became an amateur detective when suddenly she was always present during murders. She'd see connections that the actual investigators couldn't and because everyone suspected her of something. Then, one day, she found herself more or less kidnapped to an alien space station. It was a solution that worked for her, s

Until suddenly the alien intelligent station decided to allow humans to visit. Sure enough, more murders.

If you like weird aliens and humans with messed up personalities, murder and space stations….this is the book for you. Quirky.

WHAT. A. RIDE. Exceptionally engrossing and super stressful! Somewhere between sci fi action, murder mystery and domestic thriller. Lots of interpersonal drama in between interplanetary intrigue and political machinations. As with Six Wakes, author excels at creating complex characters with nuanced friction between them. Didn't see the big reveal coming! Pacing, multiple POVs, exposition & flashbacks all handled masterfully.

Robotswithpersonality ⚠️ Psychological and physical abuse by family members 10mo
julesG I think this is the first in a series. At least I hope it is. And isn't there a sequel to Six Wakes, too? 10mo
julesG Sequel to Station Eternity is expected to be published in November 10mo

Robotswithpersonality @julesG There's a sequel to Mickey7, the other 'clones in space' novel I know of by a different author, but I don't know about a sequel to Six Wakes. 10mo
Robotswithpersonality @julesG Chaos Terminal already on my TBR! 😁 10mo
julesG Yes, I read the ARC of the sequel to Mickey7. I think Lafferty answered a question on Goodreads about a possible sequel to Six Wakes. But I probably thought of yet another book with a similar cover, just can't think of title/author right now. 10mo
Robotswithpersonality @julesG I loved Antimatter Blues! If you remember any other clones in space books, let me know! 😄 10mo

In this sci-fi mystery, Mallory has gone to live on a sentient space station after murders keep happening in her presence on earth. She solves them, too, but everyone is always suspicious of her. Anyway she has picked this station because there are no other humans there - but then humans arrive, and an alien is murdered. I enjoyed the story and the world building. I want to know what happens next!

I had high hopes for this book, as I had loved Six Wakes and the combination of sci-fi and murder mystery is right up my alley. The execution was a bit disappointing. However, I loved the alien characters and would be willing to give the next book in the series a try.

This was a fun, slightly zany space murder mystery. While I did enjoy it, the sheer number of characters and different points of view felt overwhelming and at times confusing. I kept thinking it might make a better movie as it would be easier to keep track of things visually. In spite of that quibble, I did like the mystery, the main characters and the imaginative world the author created and was worth my time. 3/5 stars,

Mallory attracts murder. She doesn't want to be the cause for people dying that's why she moves to Station Eternity, a space station where only one other human lives.

I liked the world-building, the other sentient beings on the station, and the mystery was quite interesting. I found the different POV a bit tricky sometimes because it took me a moment to figure out which head I was in.

3.5/5 stars

Think Agatha Christie mystery on a spaceship for this one. The names are clever. The cast of characters is weirdly diverse.

Will I buy this book because it has a very cool cover designed by my favorite book cover artist Will Staehle? Almost certainly. I mean it also sounds really good—a detective solving murders on an alien space station—so I might just have to preorder it! 🛰🚀🔪🕵️‍♀️👽

seibelsays I might have to preorder it based on your description alone. Way to check all of my boxes. 😂 2y
