Pickpick

The introduction starts out highlighting some of the difficulties of translating Gorter, like his penchant for making changes to a lot of words in his own language which are hard to carry over into English.

While the longer ones were beyond me most of the time (I couldn‘t get into them), Haft was able to capture the beauty of Gorter in the smaller ones perfectly:

Like the glance
of a star
on a lake:
her dance.

Question of the Day: Where should we go from here? #QotD

I did an entire month of daily bookish questions. Did you enjoy them? Do you want them to continue? Would you prefer something on a weekly schedule instead? Do you want to suggest questions for the series?⁣

I'm open to your feedback. Let me know.⁣

Question of the Day: What's the worst book you've ever read? #QotD

[ID: daily question in white text on a black and red background.]

BookishMarginalia Hands down, without question. I was forced to read it for a lit class in college. I think I even had to write about it. 🤢 10mo
BookBr Probably The Origin of the Species by Nino Ricci — I found the characters so utterly odious I didn‘t even make it through a quarter of it… 10mo
BookDragonNotWorm The Last Girl - can't remember the author. The first half was really good, centered around a plane crash, but the second half 🦨. So bad 10mo
kathytrithardt Hahahah @BookDragonNotWorm I love the skunk emoji. I don't think I have that one on my phone. 10mo
Tera66 A vampire romance called Strawberry 🍓, I listened to it and the narration made it worse😄 10mo

90%! Even the hallways have books. The only rooms with out books are the two bathrooms. #QotD @kathytrithardt

LeslieO @BookishMarginalia 👏👏👏👏 10mo
Patchshank I don't think I have any in the bathroom. All the other rooms have books. 10mo

kathytrithardt I incorrectly counted the kitchen as not having any books when I did my mental count, since they are in a cupboard. 80% - just not the bathrooms. 10mo
PhyllisH 86%😄. Does an iPad with a Kindle app count🤔 (edited) 10mo
marleed Only my bathrooms due to humidity! 10mo
Sangeetarelan 99% 10mo
Eggs 💯 % 10mo
JazzFeathers All, except the bathroom. 80% l suppose 😜 10mo
CindyMyLifeIsLit 90%. Only the bathrooms do not have books. 10mo

Question of the Day: What percentage of rooms in your home have at least one book in them right now? #QotD

I did a mental check and it is about 70% over here.⁣

Eggs 💯 % 10mo
Kdgordon88 9 rooms, 6 with books and one bathroom has bookish magazines. 😁 10mo
rubyslippersreads About 75%. No books in either bathroom, but there is a slightly musty-smelling book on top of my washing machine (my tiny laundry room is dry and hot, which seems to help with that). 10mo

BookBr A solid 7/10 rooms, if you count the basement as one. 70% somehow doesn‘t seem right😂 10mo
persephone1408 There are books in my den & all 3 bedrooms. So lets say 50% cause none in kitchen other den & 2 bathrooms. 10mo
Pogue 79% 7 out of 9 rooms have books in them. 10mo

Question of the Day: Do you prefer to buy or borrow your books? #QotD

I know for many of us that it is a mix of the two, but I'm curious where you land on the spectrum.⁣

Tag me in your reply posts so I see them!

[ID: daily question on white background over cartoon figures having a conversation.]

Roxanareads I prefer to buy 10mo
Karisa I prefer to borrow if possible. However, I‘ve been known to go back and buy a borrowed book I loved or want to share with my classroom library. 😊 10mo

Question of the Day: How do you balance "one more chapter" with getting exercise? #QotD

The only thing that works for me is walking while listening to audiobooks. I really want to enjoy and appreciate exercise, but I don't get a runners' high or whatever other chemical rush some folks do, and would rather use my spare time to read.⁣

#OneMoreChapter

[ID: daily question text next to a cartoon figure who appears to be running.]

Gissy I run at least 4 days per week, well to be honest, is like a power walking but in my mind I‘m a runner😜Tomorrow will go for our 18 miles which means I will be the last one to complete it 😆 I‘m trying to do some exercises those days I don‘t run and will like to do more activities at the beach. All these activities are in the morning. I don‘t read while I do exercises. Not at this moment. 10mo

kathytrithardt I just find exercise so boring and hate that it cuts into time where I could be doing non-boring things. 10mo

Enchanted_Bibliophile I do quick workouts (nothing more than 30min) first thing in the morning so that it can't interfere with the rest of my day. 10mo
kathytrithardt Yeah @Enchanted_Bibliophile I try to trick myself into a 40 minute walk first thing before I wake up and talk myself out of it 10mo
Enchanted_Bibliophile @kathytrithardt 🤣 I'm good at that too... But honestly try something short. I started with 10min workouts and upped it overtime (5 years) to 30min. I don't like waisting time, but I realise the importance of being active. And I learned to love my 20or30min of work. Anything more and I lose interest. 10mo

A couple years ago I stopped making reading lists. It‘s made reading even more enjoyable.
So for me I don‘t have any books I need to get read before the end of the year.
@kathytrithardt
#QotD

kathytrithardt That's totally fair. Anything you are excited to pick up next? 10mo
PrezBookster I never made a list, but I did feel the need to read books that I purchased recently before others. However, I now let my vibe find the book for me. The flow of that intuitive reading is magical. 10mo
OrangeMooseReads @PrezBookster I‘m a total mood reader. If it‘s not striking me I won‘t pick it up or I‘ll DNF it. 10mo
OrangeMooseReads @kathytrithardt I don‘t have anything I can think of that I‘m like “oh I HAVE to read that next”. I‘m a mood reader and get finicky some times lol 10mo

#ReadingGoals #TBR

[ID: daily question in a white text block over a golden background with line drawn detailing.]

BookishMarginalia None. I‘m a mood reader, so I just read what I want when I want. 🤓 10mo
Becker My goal was to read War & Peace in 2021. I‘m 3/4 of the way through.🌝 10mo
Gissy None. I just want to accomplish my reading goals but if not that ok. I just want to enjoy my readings. 10mo
